2018-19 TSSAA Handbook Page 2 January 22, 2019 IV. STATE TOURNAMENT (Division I) A. The draw for the state tournament shall be made by the state office and shall be released after the completion of all regional wrestling tournaments. B. Wrestlers who meet the qualification shall be placed in each weight division in the state tournament. In order to be placed, a wrestler must be a regional champion and must have been a state place finisher during his high school career. The criteria for placing shall be as follows: 1. Separate all state champions (includes state champions from other states). 2. The following criteria shall be used to separate state champions: (a) state champion at same weight, (b) state champion at higher weight, (c) state champion at lower weight. (If there are two state champions at the same weight the state champion from Tennessee will receive the higher seed.) 3. Follow the same procedure as #2 above for 2nd place from previous year, 3rd place from previous year, 4. Items #2 and #3 shall be applied in order to wrestlers who placed in the state tournament two years prior. 5. Blind draw. D. After the brackets have been released, if a school suspects than an error has been made in the application of the criteria, the school should email Mark Reeves, mreeves@tssaa.org. If an error has been made, the state office will correct the error as long as the state tournament program has not been sent to print.

Are USA Wrestling cards (insurance) really necessary? No they are not. I have a school team. They are considered JV and fall under the High School program. If a wrestler gets hurt no matter the tournament, when I show up at the hospital they want to see the physical form not the USA wrestling card. It's a money grab plain and simple. At the very least only one coach should need this card. Requiring all High School coaches to have a card or they can't be on the floor is dumb. If I have a fully qualified coach, who is listed on the KHSAA site that should be all that is needed. No need for the background check, sport safety course or submitting anything to anyone else. You cannot work for the school system if you do not have everything so, why the need for everything to be submitted to the Middle School association again? I understand club teams having this requirement, but not school teams. jmho

Lots of positives on the day. A great day of wrestling. As for seeding: It's no different than a regular tournament were the best wrestlers are from the same Region. My one negative: Why were the weigh-ins done in the wrestling area in full view of the moms, dads, and others. It was inappropriate. They should have at least made an announcement to put away your cell phones. There were a number of parents and coaches upset about this.Last year the wrestlers weighed in, in the wrestling room. Why didn't they do this again?

Coaches, The Christian County Invitational Middle School tournament for the 2017 season will be December 22nd. We are excited about all of the teams that have committed to this tournament. Including: McCracken County, Union County, Caldwell County, defending Champion- Warren Wrestling Academy from Indiana, Nashville Catholic, and others. Coaches, Next year's Toyota of Hopkinsville Christian County Invitational has moved dates. For the 2017-2018 season the tournament will be held December 22nd for the Middle School and December 23rd for the Varsity. We have eliminated the JV section of the tournament. We believe removing the JV portion of the middle school tournament will allow us to run a more efficient tournament the first day and bring in more MS teams.
