  1. I liked the guys that attack on the whistle and never let up, a few that come to mind are:

Derek Scott, Jacob Murton, Jairus Murton, Richard Starks, Brock Ervin

Didnt seem like much strategy involved in their wrestling just all out wrestle until someone gets pinned or the ref makes you stop. Sometimes to their advantage sometimes not so much, but none of these guys lost very often, at least not in KY.

  2. It would great to add any collegiate wrestling program in KY but Bellarmine is private too the same as CU and UC. Both great options but more expensive than a state school for instate students. I still want to see a state school offer wrestling as a NCAA sport. How about these options, EKU, NKU, Louisville, Murray State, UK, WKU, certainly one of these schools could add wrestling so the KY HS kids have an more affordable option.

  3. I would like to see N. KY Univ add wrestling. I know it has been discussed before and theres always reasons they wont but .....

The school is going through a lot of changes in programs and people running things have changed too.

I havent heard of any efforts lately is the timing any better for NKU?

Would be great for a State school to be able to offer DII or DI program and kids a chance to stay in state and wrestle while going to college.

  4. Congrats to all the kids for a great job at Fargo!

Sounds like there is a push to get more KY kids involved would be great exposure for the kids and the state.

More kids means more coaches needed at Fargo, 24 mats and the matches come fast. Coaches need to be accredited to get on the floor, USAW has a great training program for coaches, well worth it.

Start planning now and it will make it alot easier next year.

  5. I think GOO has a good point about the importance of determining the team championship at the team duals. If the sport focuses on the developement of more teams and more complete teams the entire sport grows.

The team aspect of wrestling has kind of been lost through the years. The team aspect encourages all the wrestlers to bond in a selfless common effort to get better for the team. In the often referred to major states very few of the total wrestlers make it to state. Only a small percentage make it to any post season wrestling beyond the first round, (districts, sectionals, etc..) Most kids dont realistically expect to make it deep in their state tourney, so the team is more important. Lots of teams live for dual matches against cross town rivals or neighboring counties. It isnt about one or two kids its about the entire team and who has bragging rights after the match. Unfortunately at least one neighboring state, Indiana has decided to end their Duals State Championship. I think it hurts the sport by minimizing the importance of the team. All successful wrestlers will tell you they benefitted from the support of a good team, practice partners, coaches, asst coaches, parents, alumni, dual matches.

In KY about 20-25% of the wrestlers advance to the state tournament. It seems like everything is geared toward getting kids ready for the state tournament. I'm not sure thats the best way to grow the sport. I always thought all the teams within a region should wrestle each other at least once before team duals to determine who earns the berth to state duals as region dual champ and runnerup. Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like some teams never even wrestle other teams within their region.

  6. I think he goes for the 4th weight and title, unless his body just doesnt cooperate.

Does anyone know of a link to the video of the Dake vs Taylor match?

I looked on NBCOlympic.com and watched on session couldnt find it, I wish they would have labeled the videos better to identify the matches.

  7. Those who whine about seeding must have lost!!!!!

If you are the best wrestler then you win no matter what your seed. What you are seeded second and get second you have one loss at the state tourney just like the guy who took third. Oh, but wait you got to make the finals, Bullsh*t!!!!! I personally would rather go out with the win!!!

They are wrestling to claim a championship, everything else is a consolation, seed it or not, the best is always crowned the champion.
