  1. RYP is right about the timing being good, sure its a long shot but it has to start somewhere.

A little political pull along with a plan to fund might go a long way. Louisville is a State school and there is currently a void among state universities offering the sport of wrestling.

Some good resources for puttling a plan together: KHSAA, KY Wreslting Coaches Association, Ky Middle School Association and KY.USAW

Louisville is spending $85 million a year on athletics, the most of any of the ACC schools, surely they can manage a wreslting team.

  2. I agree with Raider the rules allow it, so manage within the rule. My only concern is that its not all about the one kid, its about the kid(s). The kids include the one thats being considered to move up and the one or more that are going to be affected the most by allowing the kid to move up. In some cases there is a high school wrestler that isnt going to be able to wrestle because of the decision and that bothers me.

  3. Just to play the other side of this issue the difference between academics and sports is the MS student is not taking a spot from a HS Student in the classroom. Isn't there something for the talented MS wrestler to learn from mentoring his MS teammates? Wouldnt the MS teammates benefit from having such a talented wrester to practice with and learn? I understand people wanting to field the best team at all cost, but there are pros and cons to both sides of the issue.

  4. Its all a guess from me but I think I recognize Coach Carr and not sure but I think thats Joe Jr. in the back. I'm guessing thats Tendai in the second row with the big hair and beyond that I would have to say some of the names below.

Heres the State Champs from 1996:

103 - Chris Valentine (Woodford Co.); 112 - Shaun Smith (Christian Co.); 119 - Jason Talbott (Oldham Co.); 125 - Jeremy Rhodes (Conner) 130 - Scott Rhodes (Sheldon Clark), 135 Kevin Case (Harrison Co), 140 Joe Carr (Woodford Co) 145 Ian Horn (Woodford Co) 152 Tony Stewart (Scott) 160 David Moore (Henry Clay) 171 Tendai Charasika (St Xavier) 189 - Miguel Merritt (Hopkinsville); 215 - Livingston Merritt (Hopkinsville); 275 - Ryan Putthoff (Conner).

  5. the last one im going to mention, is from two years ago. we almost witnessed history being erased with this one. travis sullivan was losing to d.c. evans at state with like 35 seconds left and sullivan was on his back. everyone had counted him out and already marked his first loss down of his wrestling career. then before anyone knew what was going on, sullivan was free and on top, pinning evans with like 10 seconds left on the clock.

The Sulivan / Evans match incredible!

  6. Its all old news now and I posted on this site then that I didnt think Mark Hall would ever win a State Title in KY, (thank you Myron) but I guess that still remains to be seen, they could drive back down here at anytime in the next 3-4 or I guess 5 years. But I just really found it hard to believe a family (?) living in a trailer next to the school passed the KHSAA test for legitimate reason for a move? Am i missing something here or were they really living in a trailer, tell me I'm wrong on this?

  7. I agree most kids do better at Free becauise its more similar to Folkstyle. I cant remember a KY kid doing well at Greco. Fargo is a great recruiting spot but I think some of the other nationals have really improved the past few year with attendance by wresters and coaches making them more legitimate nationals.

Back to the original topic, Brent Metcalf always fun to watch.

  8. Good question about KY kids at Fargo, a little off topic but interesting. I dont know of any that have finished top 8, a number of them have finished top 16 and very close to AA but would be interested to know as well if any finished top 8. If anyone know of AA's from KY please list.

    A few top 16:

    Jacob Murton

    John Wolsiefer

    Ryan Houchens

    Kevin Cooper

    John Fahy

Coming out of KY to finish top 8 or top 16 is a huge accomplishment. Just not good enough support to train and prepare and expect to finish at the top. Most of the kids listed above that did well spent time in top level camps prior to Fargo.
