  1. I would say that U. of Cumberlands has the advantage for now. But I really like the program at Campbellsville, new and exciting.

Why dont we have more colleges offering wrestling?

What does it take to get a school to add wrestling?

What was it that made Campbellsville add wrestling?

Is it a strong alumni support, Title IX compliance, what makes it look good to a school?

We have some great candidates, Centre, Western, Eastern, Northern, Bellarmine, Morehead, Murray.

What about Kentucky and U of L. Both schools are in prestigious conferences that generate big revenues but dont offer wrestling. Im sure with the big monies they make off of basketball and football its not a money issue. Could they offer wrestling and compete as an independent? Could U of L be using the Big East as a stepping stone to the truly big boys conference, the Big Ten or ACC? Both conferences offer wrestling!

What would more collegiate wrestling do for the sport at the high school and youth levels?

Do we need to petition our politicians to get more collegiate wrestling?

  2. The tourney is over and Jacob went 5-2. He lost to the runner up at 140, Adam Hall from Idaho, 10-6. Hall went on to win the pool and then lost in the championship finals 7-5 to Cyler Sanderson, (Cael's lil brother). Jacob finished in the top 16 out of about 100 of the best Jr/Sr's in the country.

I would consider that a very good tournament for Jacob, definitely deserving of a national ranking.

Congratulations to Jacob on a great tournament!

  3. I think Caleb can go 112 or 119, the weight isnt a problem for him. I think Coach Hall and Caleb will discuss it and decide whats best for him and the team. But I dont think Caleb will be looking past anyone at either weight 112 or 119, and I dont think he will consider 112 an easy way to a championship. Theres to many kids out there looking to knock of the champ, he knows he will be getting everyone's "A" game all season regardless of what weight.

  4. Junior Freestyle USAW Nationals started today.

Jacob Murton is 3-0 at 140 he teched a kid from TN and then teched the Conn. State Champ and then beat a Texas state champ 8-4, his next match is against Joey De Marie, Iowa. I think he will tech De Marie and that will put him close to placing in his pool. He has a great chance at All American status (top eight).

Jarius is 2-1, 152lbs. In the first round he pinned a kid from Texas and then got beat by Marco Toledo, Brandon, FL. Toledo is a nationally ranked kid from one of the top programs in the country, he will probably place high if he doesnt win it all. Jarius has a tough draw, he had a bye in the 3rd round and will face Derek Sickles from NJ next. It should be a tough match.

Marcus Bradbury is at 145 and lost his first 2 matches.

    Good Luck!

The results are being updated on Themat.com about every 3-4 hours.

  5. I think a number of seniors this year could be D1 prospects.

But to really get the interest of D1 schools they need to be placing at some of the bigger out o season tournaments. The big difference between D1 and other divisions in the case of Kentucky wrestlers is out of season results. I dont think many KY kids are being recruited by D1 based on their high school career. I think it has more to do with how they fare at some of the big national tournaments, NHSCA and USAW Nationals.

  6. Kyle Ruschell, Ryle - Wisconsin

Jarius Murton, Lawrence County, going to Campbellsville U was listed in the Intermat top 100 prospects. I think that should qualify him as DI material.

Jordan Lewis, Ballard - Campbellsville U. I think he had some DI options.

    Did I miss someone?
