  1. Yes, they may know it is because of them and for a positive reason. How many times does a heavy win MOW? Not often because most of the votes are turned in well before. Just simple timing. Not style or technique or level of domination. Timing. They see other kids who catch their attention during the finals, decide not to wait around until midnight to see all of the finals, fill out their ballot after 160 and go home.

With the real problem being how late the last matches are wrestled, not who happens to be wrestling at the end.

What changes could be made so the tourney doesn't  run so late?

    Start earlier? Faster Medal Ceremonies?

  2. Sounds like an idea worth a try. Not sure you wont have emptying stands at the end of the night regardless whos wrestling, but it could help?

I dont think it would affect the heavy's they realize its more about the timing and duration of along two days that is affecting the crowd more than the lack of interest. I love watching the bigger boys go at it.

  3. I've heard alot of good coaches tell their kids if a bad call is the difference in the match a kid didnt wrestle well enough, meaning the kid should have wrestled better to take the chance of a bad call out of the equation. Never back down from that philosophy and theres never an excuse.

  4.  So glad to hear that they are ok thanks alot for that info RYP. Thats crazy about Mrs. Branch, I couldnt imagine what was going through her head, super mom status!

Glad to hear the good news about the Branch Family. Lots of worry and prayers being said for them.

I like that status, "Super Mom" says it all.

    Get well soon!

  5. This has been a great thread, but as all threads, they lead to CC and etc....... no problems here, I love the  hyperbole.

I have read post suggesting Woodford, Union, SK, CC, Hopkinsville, all good arguments,

I really like the comparison of the SK team when the tournament was just Elite 8.

I would throw in the Trinity teams with Fahy Hitchings, Bradbury, Ohlman, I think an argument can be made for them as well.

The Trinity 2010 team won and loss was 46-17, maybe that should be the measurement for the best team. How the overall team performed is the reason a team wins from top to bottom. Maybe factor in some weighting for Pins and Major's, wheres our statistical analyst when you need em.

It seems the best team is not all about the individual champions, It really doesnt matter if the best wrestlers were nationally ranked or not, they are important but all of the teams had great champs, what about the rest of the team and as a team how did they perform.

So while this sport if made up of individual performances, its a team effort that makes up the greatest team in KY history..

     .

  6. Great points by all, never gonna know how one great team would have fared against another and in that is the great debate.

There is alot to debate about what makes the best team, you decide: total points, total champs, total placers, total team, # of teams, # of wrestlers, its all good.

It's great to hear from so many supporting their own teams or generation,

We collectively are KY Wrestling, from every corner, stand tall and be proud.

Every year the state gets better and this year will be the same, so good luck to all, wrestle your best, give it your all and no regrets!

  7. Richard Starks had a good career wrestling for Army, I think he was varsity all 4 years.

I thought I heard Coty Lewis wrestled a few years out in Iowa, and Harrison Courtney was at Lindsey Wilson.

That was a good group of kids and parents, always fun to wrestle against them and to see them wrestle.

Hope they are all doing well!

  8. Someone posted on another thread about a certain team being one of if not the best team in KY Wrestling history.

I dont know enough about KY Wrestling History to argue one team or another, but it got me to thinking about what is the best team ever in KY.

I tought the topic deserves a thread of its own.

So lets hear what was the best team in KY and why?

  9. It happens , in other states , I wouldn't go that route .Seemed like a very tough tournament with the directors trying to accommodate every one last minute ,,maybe some

    Of them

Should come to their defense and be grateful to ease the onslaught of complaints heading their way ,if it is factual , just sayin , don't come to dinner uninvited and complain cause there isn't enough taters .

Great post, but no excuses for showing up uninvited.

Congrats to the Tourney folks for pulling that off at all, what a nightmare.

Still makes for a long drawn out affair that probably was very frustrating to everyone.

  10. I heard that the finals didn't get started till around 11:30pm.

This is stupid crazy. Who runs a tournament that the finals start that late?

Might have been some good matches, but to have a tournament take this long ridiculous. Those kids were probably up since 5 or 6am and having to sit around till 10:30 or 11:30pm to wrestle finals, come on people!

I heard that they had a seed meeting at 9:30 which took a few hours then had to build brackets and start wrestling close to noon.

Why didn't they have a the seed meeting earlier in the week. Or atleast make this tournament a two day event.

Sounds like a great event! Keep this on the schedule for next year.

This happens all to often in KY wrestling and IMHO is one of the areas that needs to improve drastically. Its not only in HS but MS too.

This is a black eye for KY wrestling and an area that needs to be have focus for improvement from the wrestling community. I dont hear about this problem in other states.
