Great job, Team KY! I watched some of the matches but didn't see the IN match. What match was the last second win?

I asked how many schools with HS Wreslting in California on Max Preps, came back with 1300 schools fielding HS wrestling teams. Thats alot of schools, considering one class for the state championship, thats a tough tournament.

That sounds like one of or the toughest HS States there is!

Where is this being held?

My understanding is that CA has a number of classes but they are all very difficult. As recently as a few years ago I was told NY had a single tourney, but I looked it up and this year there were two divisions.

I have friends in CA and when we talk about HS wrestling they always talk about how deep and difficult it is to get thru to a state champsionship. Just the number of kids and schools makes it crazy to get thru to the top. But they dont get alot of credit around these parts because we dont them alot, understandbly considering the distance. I have talked with some Iowa folks who would argue that Iowa HS is alot tougher than they get credit for. NY has a single class state tournament that is considered extremely difficult too. Its an ongoing argument about which state is the toughest I would have to agree with PA as the reigning favorite but after that I dont see any one state standing out enough to be a clear favorite for #2.

Where would you expect California to place if they brought their top wrestlers? The state gets very little credit but has a huge number of wrestlers and IMO is often left out of the discussion when referring to top states.

This debate always gets ugggly, not an easy thing to discuss wihout the emotion taking control. I just wish the two big privates were on a more even keel when it comes to number of male students to choose from or field two athletic teams. Seems to be an advantage they have enoyed for years. I personally like em all, privates, publics, home schooled, its all good, go where ever you want just play by the rules.

This thread is confusing, titled FloNationals but posters referring to USAW FS Nationals. I cant remember 3 quality National tournaments happening in the same week, NHSCA, USAW and FloNationals. All 3 events pretty well attended, the brackets for USAW and FLO seem to be a little deeper than NHSCA, but all three have a good number of kids from all over. Brock Ervin, Runnerup at 126 at USAW in Cedar Rapids, lost a clost 3-2 match in the final which was broadcast live. I think the Beast is available to individuals, the state has had a number of Trinity and Ryle kids attend the past few years I think the Murton's went up there one year. Its not as good as it used to be, Graham nor Eds nor Easton have attended the past few years, but still very good teams attending, get to see Blair and some very good PA and East Coast Schools.

Are there any rules in KY about the number of matches in state a team or individual must have to qualify for KY post season wrestling? I've always agreed with the philosophy that you have to wrestle the best to beat the best. I am not sure the philisophy applies at all cost to the high school season schedule. There are plenty of off season opportunities to meet all the Ironman, Beast of the East, The Clash types of competition. Seems like traveling to these these types of tournaments during the HS season opens teams up to a lot of internal squabbles and financial concerns. We are hearing them on here already.

Never tell a kid he cant do something, but one sport in D1 is a great alternative.

I dont know of anyone playing a second sport and wrestling D1, that would be interesting to hear about if there is someone. I think UK has some valid points about getting noticed in KY, it wont be his accomplishments while in KY that get the notice. Not to many full rides being offfered in wrestling, the OH championship as a soph. is going to get attention but both will have to continue to put up outside of KY. It will be expensive to keep their skills up to national caliber level working out in KY. Lots of trips across the river in their future. Good luck hope they can pull it off!

Outside of Moeller I wouldnt get to excited about Cincinnati or SW wrestling. They have some good teams as any large metro area is going to have,but the wrestling overall isnt superior. It's not like they have a disproportionate number of wrestlers exceeding nationally. They have their share at best and thats all. I like the way KY is growing and improving, still a long way to go but making great strides. MOW is a matter of opinion and everyones got one!

This post is about Brock Ervin's chances of winning 5 state titles. The CC fanatics need to give it a break. I like Brock's chances!

Does anyone know if the Video of the finals is available anywhere? Would like to watch some of the matches again!
