You make a good point, the rankings definitely get people talking about wrestling. I wish they could receive more publicity than just on the internet. Has anyone seen the official rankings published in any newspapers? I saw the preseason rankings in the CJ here in Louisville, but would like to see them published with every update. This sport really could benefit from the exposure and everyone from the wrestlers to the parents, friends and grandparents like to see their name or someone they know listed in the newspaper.

I think the rankings are as good as they can be with the information provided. Its a tough job and overall I think its done well, theres always going to be critics even if all teams reported! I have a few questions for anyone who has the answers: 1) Is there a schedule of when the new rankings are due to be published? 2) Is there a schedule of when new ranking information needs to be submitted to the coordinator for the next published rankings? 3) Are teams asked to submit all results or just wins over ranked opponents? I would like to see the Coaches establish a way to publish ALL results similar to KHSAA Football, Baseball, Softball etc.... those sports have websites and a database where results are published by team and you can sort thru them by team, date etc.... A database for wrestling maintained by coaches or team appointed statisticians on a website accesible to the public could be used to support the rankings!

I saw a criteria for the Beast on another site and it was similar to what you describe. But I was unaware that Jacob had been to enough major tournaments to get a higher seed than some of the other big names in the weight class. Hes seeded higher than some kids from the big name schools, Shanaman, Blair Academy, Pittman - Great Bridge, Kammerer from PA. those guys get a lot of press. But then again I really dont know that much about him just what hes done in high school and over the past summer out in Fargo. I have always been impressed with him on and off the mat and I think hes as good as those kids and will do well with or without a high seed. He would seed high based on the criteria you described because of his state championships. I think they also take in to account other tournaments placements, Walsh Iron Man, I guess Fargo could have been considered too! Good Luck Jacob!

Good tournament that was over with at a reasonable hour, big plus for the duals format over the usual tournament format that last late into the evening. Harrison's win over Kempf was a nice victory over #5 ranked IN wrestler. The other ranked kid from Reitz was Robertson who won his weight at 130lbs and looked good doing it, he was pushed hard by Jackson and the New Albany kid in the finals.

Reitz is bringing what many consider to be their best team in a long long time. They will be a definite factor in the outcome of this tournament. I think its great that Reitz and New Albany are participating in this event. We should encourage more teams just across the river to wrestle with the KY teams. How about Floyd Central, Providence, Charlestown, Jeffersonville, Tell City, Corydon? All good teams within close proximity that could make for a great tournament!

Grapplin Fan, Im not suggesting that he cant be beaten, Im just trying to give the boy his due. He has been as dominating as any wrestler in the state the past few years. I think he knows as well as anyone else that no one is invincible. Sometimes its alot more difficult to stay on top with everyone shooting at you than it is to get there. There are alot of good wrestlers he will face this year. If someone beats him then they will have the target on their back for a while. He has handled himself well displaying poise and good sportsmanship and until someone challenges him (IMO) deserves the respect.

Mathound, The competitions are about ready to begin! How about a forums page for reporting "RESULTS ONLY"? I have seen these on other state sites and it can be convenient for looking up results that are otherwise never published, such as duals and tournaments. Some states have seperate pages for HIgh School and Middle School Results. I think there would be alot of interest in knowing who wins the duals during the week (team and individuals) and the tournaments that are otherwise not published anywhere. The other sites mentioned keep their pages as "RESULTS ONLY" for reporting only and no comments or other commentary, that way all you will see on this page is results and it's alot easier to find results without having to browse thru all the postings of a "General Wrestling Forum" Would any one else like to see this kind of information? If so let Mathound know!

Refdad, Didnt mean to offend, just seems like we have numerous threads discussing why KY kids not ranked and that leads to KY not being as good as other states and then how those states are so dominant and then how many kids one state has relative to another, etc..... tends to turn into a bashing of KY! Cool to hear J. Murton will be at the Beast, I think he will do very well, GOOD LUCK!
