Team Jeff Greco/Freestyle USAW Open Tournament Greco - Friday Night Freestyle - Saturday Great, fun tournament close to Louisville (just across the river). If you live close to Louisville and you are looking for events to wrestle in you will enjoy this tournament. The Greco is Friday night and is usually over by 9:00 and the Freestyle is Saturday and is always well attended and ran well! Alot of kids have said they are concerned about trying Greco. This is a great place to try it, its almost like a beginners tournament for Greco because most of the kids are inexperienced at Greco. AAU tournaments????

Im sure there are plenty of tourneys in OH. Go to "Baums Page" that has been a good source of info in the past. If it doesnt have tourneys listed it probably has links that will get you to the tourney info. Another good site is www.jjhuddle.com forum for Ohio Wrestling, its a forum for Ohio Wrestling like this one is for KY. Just post what your looking for and you will probably be overwhelmed with response.

    Music at state tournament

What music is used just before face offs and as the lights go out and the mat light comes on? Its almost like a siren going off any ideas? They may have used it during the face offs too! I have it on my camcorder but would like to get a copy of it for a video.

    AAU tournaments????

Wont find to many AAU tournaments around here, Tourn of Champions is AAU end of April in Columbus and I think Wayne Co and Campbell County has hosted some AAU in the past. Best bet is wrestling USAW events in the upcoming KY "Gable" series and the Indiana tournaments. Tell City was today, Jeffersonville is coming up and then Charlestown, each weekend there are tournaments within an hour of Louisville. Complete listing of tournamant information (ISWA.com) for Indiana and KY USAW Site: http://eteamz.active.com/kyusawrestling/handouts/index.cfm?cat=79614&id=354921 http://www.iswa.com/ See me at open mat, we have the schedules hanging up in the wrestling room.

    woodford vs larue 2007

Your right HP! This season could shape up to be very close race between 5-10 teams. When next years seniors were 8th graders (2003), the middle school tournament was won by an incredibly close margin by Woodford over Fern Creek. I couldnt find the scores on the KYSWA site, (it has a link to the 2003 results but it brings up 2004), but I remember it was very close like the difference of a pin or a decision in one match for Woodford. Alot has changed in 4 years and alot can happen over the course of a season, but alot is the same too! I think there will be alot more teams in the hunt next season.

    Nationals

John Wolsiefer had planned to go, but looking doubtful now, conflicts with baseball and school. The sophomores weighins are Monday and they dont finish up till Friday, thats a whole week of school, I wish they could have wrestled on back to back weekends or at the same time as the Jr's and Sr's. I called NHSCA about the "Current Entries" listed on their website because I didnt see many kids registered to attend. They said the site was up to date but that they expect 80% of the kids will sign up in the last two weeks leading up to the event. This should be a good tournament and great exposure to the college coaches. Good Luck!

Top 3 in Each Weight Class Next Year

Wood at 119 or 125, will be one to contend with. If you thought he was tough before his injuries and many had him ranked #1, wait until you see him a year older, healthy and with something to prove. I expect Caleb to have a great Senior year!

    Quality or quanity

I would have to think the kids from years ago had less experience by their Senior year because fewer kids were starting prior to high school. My guess is the kids from back then has less experience than led to believe. They may have had as many years but not as much mat time or as many matches. There are so many off season opportunities today that a 2nd year wrestler who has wrestled year round could have 200 matches under their belt already. Years ago I dont think high school kids were getting even 50 matches a season. We have had kids that in two years had more matches than their coaches did in their entire middle school, high school and college career. Not sure who was coaching who after awhile with so many matches, but its a bg difference from then to now. I think Powers, Southern is an exceptionally gifted athlete who has a natural ability to wrestle with the strength and desire to match it. I do believe some of the kids from years ago might have been in better overall shape, not as much video and computer taking up their time and more bike riding, walking, and playing outdoors to pass the time kept them in better overall shape.

Open Mats - Fern Creek HS

Sure, you just need a USAW card, $25.00 available at the wrestling room. Not sure of your size or ability as to how you will match up with the other wrestlers, always a good idea to bring someone to wrestle with to be sure you have a partner.

Top 5 at 189lbs next year

I think all these kids have a great shot at doing well at this weight or the one above it. Its a little early to know who will be on top a year from now, you can only make predictions now based on what has happened in the past, but the past is history. The future will be decided by how hard the kids are working now and in the future months leading up to next season.

    Most Impressive at state

I say congrats to all the champs! They got it done one way or the other in the face of alot of pressure of a state meet and that is how wrestling matches are decided, on the mat. Strength vs Technical Skills, I think that technical skills are the difference in the early matchups and strength becomes more of a deciding factor the more times they meet. Its hard to defeat good strong wrestlers over and over during the course of a season.

    Rebel Rankings - 2006/2007 Preseason #1

I agree with 152 and think they will rebuild very quickly. I understand how they may not be top 20 preseason having lost so many seniors, but they will develop quickly. I think by Christmas will have proven they deserve to be ranked at least top 20.

Least Impressive Wrestlers @ State (let downs)

In defense of Caleb, he had a difficult season with two very untimely injuries that caused him to never really get any consistency established. Most kids would have sat out regional and state. IMO, he was pretty guttsy just to be on the mat trying to come back so quickly from injury. If he had been healthy I have no doubt he would have been at least further up the stand if not on top! Just to place at all while not being able to go full out is a pretty good accomplishment!

    State Tournament

Wolverine, You are very determined to argue such a moot point. So what if wrestling is not as statistically difficult to qualify. Until you have wrestled a match you are incapable of understanding the difficulty of wrestling and winning even one match to qualify. Wrestling is more difficult to qualify because the other sports/games you mention dont have 6 minutes of contestants trying to impose physical duress to your body to win the contest. You obviously have never been laced, quillotined, been hit with a blast double, try it some time I think you will find instant respect and the answers you seek. Step on the mat and you will understand why the statistics dont matter!

    Rebel Rankings - 2006/2007 Preseason #1

I agree the KWCA rankings were close at the end of the year, but most of us who follow the sport could have gotten them close at the end of the year. I appreciate Rebel's work, its just rankings, no reason for personal attacks!
