Biggest Shocker or Let down: Individual and Team

I watched the finals on the live stream on line from Ihigh.com, thanks KHSAA for arranging the telecast. This was without a doubt the most anticipated match of the night. Lots of storylines beside whos the champ at 119lbs. Issues with out of state kids coming into our state just to wrestle, middle school kids wrestling high school, people on this forum were acting as though the state's reputation was on the line. Myron did seem excited at the end of the match but understandibly so. He made me proud of how he wrestled and composed himself after the match. I liked the way Myron and Mark shook hands and congratulated each other on a good match, it looked as though they had mutual respect for one another. Myron was also quoted in the Louisville Courier Journal complimenting Mark Hall in a very respectful way. Congrats to Myron and the Trinity wrestling team!

    Updates from State

Since this is the digital age and everyone is tweeting or on facebook or a forum what is the best way to get updates on the tournament. Most of us are working away while the others get to watch and cheer, how about some updates. I saw the Kentucky Wrestling group on facebook will we be seing some updates on there?

    2010 State Brackets

I would like to ask that season records be included next year in the regional results. Some regions included them this year but others for some reason only listed their regional record 3-0, 2-1 etc... Most states do this already but for some reason KY doesnt require it. I think the state bracket would be alot more fun if everyone knew the season won and loss record of each wrestler. Does anyone know how many undefeated wrestlers there are entering the State Tournamnet?

    2010 State Brackets

Thanks, alot better than 43 back in 98, but not really as much growth as I would have hoped for in the last 5 years either. I guess if the sports isnt declining in the number of teams thats a good sign!

    2010 State Brackets

How does that compare to previous years, any idea?

Ok, its that time of year again..

Qualifying for state means you get to participate. What you do at state determines if you belong.

    2010 State Brackets

No sorry as you can tell I just matched up the wrestlers so you can see the pairings and then added some lines to make brackets for a championship side of the bracket. The KHSAA will have their's posted soon and then you will have the full bracket. For a bracket to calculate points you will need the actual software or someone with more time than me to build it.

    2010 State Brackets

Heres an Excel file with all the unofficial brackets. I think its correct, if you find any errors let me know. Hope you can get to it for those that want to try.

    Ruschell / Molinaro

I saw Kyle lost a close one to Frank Molinaro, PSU 6-5. Molinaro is an up and comer, still surprised Kyle lost to him as well. Any video of the match?

    best overlooked wrestler

Thats the most impressive group of wins I have heard from a KY kid in quite awhile, not to mention hes only an 8th grader, wow! What is his overall record? Has he wrestled the top KY kids yet?

    Best in the Bluegrass

Alot can be said for Hitchings too, he has dominated his weight for two years now noone even close to beating him.

    fahy in indiana?

I thought Silver looked alot smaller than the Graham kid, alot smaller than just one weight class.

    fahy in indiana?

The setup in Indiana with Sectional, Regional, Semi State and State also means you may meet the same kid numerous times on the road to state. If someone close by is a close match you could end up wrestling at each event. Having to beat an equal opponent over and over can be tough.
  18. Let me be the first to say I dont think Mark Hall is going to win any state championships in KY. Go Myron and the rest of the KY kids!
  19. This is the thread that would not die, it should have been locked along time ago! Good luck to all the kids, coaches and parents, lace up the shoes and snap on the headgear. It will all be decided on the mat!
  20. I think the state should be proud of a program such as Ryle that can attract a wrestler of this caliber. They have placed a number of kids in D1 programs, probably more than any other program in KY in the last 10 yrs. PS: I wish adults would think twice before they boo any of the kids on the mat. Boo the ref or a bad call but not against the kids.

I wouldnt be surprised if more kids moved into the Ryle district for the coaching. The Ryle program is one of the best in the area, (KY, IN, WV OH). They have a number of kids now go one to D1 schools and of course one thats ranked #2 in the country with Kyle Ruschell. Its no fluke that they continue to turn in great season after great season and their kids consistently wrestle for championships. Coaching success develops a reputation and attracts talent, I would think kids from out of state would move to Ryle for the instrcction and guidance more than the competition or easy road to state titles.

The kid must be really good, cant wait to see him. I'm not to worried about Ky becoming a proving ground for middle schoolers from out of state. 1) Few families are obsessed enough to bother with moving for such a reason 2) few kids are good enough to pull it off, from what I've read this young man is the exception to the rule and KY wrestling is better than people give it credit. I know the folks at Trinity and I'm sure Myron will be working hard for their next meeting.

    Elementary Regional/State

I dont know all the specifics but from what Ive picked up on this thread the problems the outlying areas have regarding programs and attending the state meet arent going to be fixed by moving the date of the tournament. The majority of the state, whether it's 55% - 95% voted and prefer the current date. The outlying areas can still wrestle later in the year, there are plenty of USAW or AAU events to compete or they could start their own leauge amongst themselves to get more competition later in the year. The problems stated by most of the remote areas are that they cant find exclusive coaches for youth teams and to far to travel. These problems have been the same for years and years. I feel for you, but this site and the state's wrestling organizations wont be able to fix those problems. Thanks to all the parents and coaches putting in the hard work to make this possible on all levels.

    jefferson county tournament of champions

From the Courier Journal (Louisville) Congrats to Trinity and MOW John Lampe St. X xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Trinity won its third straight team title and Brad Hitchings took home his fourth individual crown, but the Shamrocks did something unusual while dominating Jefferson County's Tournament of Champions wrestling meet Sunday at Eastern. 25. Hats off to Ranger, does a great job with the rankings, not only to spend the time evaluating and creating the rankings but then goes the extra mile to post on this site and discuss and explain his rationale. Does the Coaching Association still establish rankings? Are Ranger's Rankings the de facto rankings for Kentucky? Would be cool to see them published in a newspaper somewhere!
