    Time to move forward

Everyone wishes to have their viewpoint heard. Everyone who brings their point of view and insight is a part of this large community. It has always been a rule that Personal Attacks will not be tolerated. This rule has been a little too relaxed in the past to allow for open discussion. However, It's lead to some out of control whiplash. Moving forward, I want it to be clear that it's unacceptable to attack a user, even with a history of foolish or boorish behavior. If we want to encourage a positive online presence for our sport and community here in Kentucky, we can't get caught up into this cycle. This includes wrestlers that may have done something unsportsmanlike or referees that made a foolish call. People make mistakes, and hopefully they learn from them. Attacking them for it will not encourage them to change their ways. Personal attacks are damaging to helping our community and sport grow and goes against the spirit of sportsmanship. Comments should not be personalized or directed at people, avoid the use of "you". How should you respond to a personal attack? By not responding at all. Report it to a moderator... simply by clicking the report button/link on that post. Moderating debates can be stressful, and we try be open when it comes to discussions, but personal attacks cannot be tolerated. Do not respond to attacks, instead, report it. Users that insist on a confrontational response to a personal attack, could be blocked as well for cycling the problem.
  2. First of all, a huge thank you to everyone involved in the ranking committee and Coach McCoy for organizing it. Hours and hours of research went into every win and loss on TrackWrestling and the ScoreBook. At first we only planned to rank the top 10, but everyone wanted to include more kids because we felt we owe it to these wrestlers for all the hard work they have put in. The committee is made up of parents, coaches, moderators, and even your favorite sports journalist. The word on the street is Ranger still plans to do his Ranger Report, so keep a look out for that (going on 5 years)! We all owe Ranger a steak dinner for doing this for so long. With that being said, go ahead, rip apart these rankings... See you in Lexington... 106 1. Cody Stephens, McCreary Central, 11, 33-1 2. Jake Burroughs, North Hardin, 10, 45-0 3. Ideal Summer Tournament

What would you like to see in a summer tournament in Kentucky? FR/GR attendance used to be very low for summer tournaments, that probably explains why there are so few of them in the state. What are the summer tournaments that get you ready for national competition? Bluegrass State Games seems to be the most popular tournament during the summer, simply because it was the "state games". So what would you like to see in a summer tournament in our state?
  11. I'm just wondering how many of our readers are deployed overseas? Also, any former wrestlers deployed out there?

    Anywhere but Alltech, Please

I still hate the 32 man bracket too but it has been going well on 6 mats, except you can't watch ALL the good matches. You could possibly do a 24 man bracket, making the 3rd place match at regions actually mean something. Winner goes to state. Give a first round bye to all region champions. I wonder if you could squeeze a 24 man bracket out in 2 days on 4 mats. We have pretty much tried everything else.
  13. Which bracket or weight class do you think is the most wide open for anyone to win? Without a dominant for-sure top 3 or so guys that could win it?
  14. Erdman could have been in there, he was in the discussion, but it probably came down to not having any wins against top 10 guys (in that weight), but he did tech-fall Beeler at the Rumble, so he could have fallen in there but that was a really early tournament. We basically only had 2 days this time to put something out and everyone is busy with state tournament, so some kids probably got missed.
  15. What is the deal, why are you being so cryptic? Just say his name.

    Youth Wrestling in High School

In 2010, we had: 1-> 7th grader place 2nd (Mark Hall) 5-> 8th graders place (state champion Bock Ervin) 8-> 9th graders place In 2012 we had: 3-> 8th graders place (all 120 or below) 6-> 9th graders place (state champion Austin Meyers) - Only one 9th grader placed from 150-185. I believe with the recent weight changes from last year and the increase of talent across the state with the amazing youth program we have, it is becoming much harder for the youth levels to compete at the high school level. I'm afraid with the weight changes, I think we should drop middle school wrestlers from competing at the high school varsity level. This is more evident the higher weight class the youth is competing in. Initially, I think the introduction of 7th and 8th graders was needed and complimented the 32 man brackets we needed to fill. I was behind this decision to promote growth. With participation up and the recent raise in weight divisions... I think it could be justified to keep competition at the high school level. I have seen amazing youth wrestlers get slaughtered by elite and high school state placers, particularly in the mid to heavy weight classes. With the increased base of the lower weights, I don't see the need to allow the youth to participate at the varsity level as much as we required it a few years go. I wouldn't say we need to stop 7th and 8th graders completely cold turkey, we could possibly only cut 7th graders from the list and still allow 8th graders to compete until the competition levels out again. I may receive some responses that don't agree, but I think we have to fundamentally believe our high school sports should be participated in by "high school students".

    Youth Wrestling in High School

If the argument for allowing 7th and 8th to wrestle in high school is to not hold anyone back, then why arent we letting 6th, 5th, 4th. Why is the line drawn at 7th. I believe the line should be at 8th, but with the same practice rules as today. I think the growth potential is mainly in the practice room, not in the match.

    WV Duals

Like everyone else said, some really good teams in this tournament. Too bad it's during state duals.
