Kentucky/Ohio Wrestlers to Mongolia

Recommended Posts

Athletes in Action (AIA) Wrestling will be taking a team of high school and college aged wrestlers to Mongolia June 1st to June 18th, to compete in an international tournament featuring clubs from Mongolia, China, and Russia. While there we will also participate in a week long multi-national training camp, and have various ministry opportunities. One of the teams we are bringing from Russia is from the Republic of Tuva, and if you watched the Beat the Streets, Opan Sat that wrestled Logan Stieber is Tuvan.

John Peterson, AIA Staff and 72’Silver and 76’Gold medalist, will be coaching the team. Stephen Barrett, AIA Staff and 77’National Champion for Oklahoma State, has lived in Mongolia the last 5 years and will be organizing the tournament, training camp, and ministry opportunities while we are there. Our team features 16 wrestlers from 9 States and includes: College division 2 national champion, College Division 2 national qualifier, College Division 1 national qualifier, many state championships, and multiple state placers. We are excited to have 5 wrestlers from Kentucky and Ohio.

They are:

Sean Fausz Campbell County (State Champion)

Canaan Berry West Milton, Ohio
Colin Heasley (former Ohio State Champion)
Andrew Lieb Watkins Memorial, Ohio
Campbell Morton Moeller, Ohio

We are just six days away from heading to Mongolia. Got a chance to travel to Akron, Ohio to see two members of this years team compete as well as 5 alumni. AIA Wrestling had a great day with Cole T. from University of Wisconsin reaching the quarterfinals at Heavyweight and Sean F. of Kentucky going 7-0 at Fila Cadet(17 and under) outscoring his opponents 71-0. Was great to see them not only compete hard, but honor the Lord in doing so. Both men are very humble quiet young men and I am excited to get to know them more next week!

Our Alumni also did well. Nathan B. University of Iowa and Micah B. University of Penn, both reached the quarters at 96kg. Jesse S. of Air Force was a greco All-American and won 2 matches at freestyle. We had 3 other alumni winning matches that day as well.
