Final rankings of the year heading into State Final round.  This is not a list of who is left or a prediction of finish (doesn't consider the bracket).  Over the next few days I will be working on the write-up and predictions.

Only comments I will add from the weekend...

    - Semi-state in a HS gym (even large gyms) is painful; a great, competitive event with some awesome matches, but not a fun experience

    - Johnson Central has a great team with great kids beyond wrestling

Ranger, I too want to thank you for pointing out what great kids we have at JC. Of course we are bias and think our kids our amazing but for others to see it as well really says a lot about their character and sportsmanship. We sure are proud of them!!

  2. I just wanted to take a moment and say "thank you" to Ranger for compiling rankings throughout the season. I took a few minutes this morning to compare the actual placements to his rankings and he is pretty close to being spot on in most weight classes. Of course, there were some upsets and injuries that derailed some of the top-ranked kids which are to be expected. I am really appreciative of what he does and am amazed at just how accurate he is.

I also compared SS1 to SS2 placers. Out of 112 placers 57 came from SS1 while 55 came from SS2. Some brackets like 106 heavily favored SS2 while others like 150 heavily favored SS1. Overall the placements were almost split evenly between the 2 sides of the state.

Hotels are sold out in pikeville. That’s nuts

Just checked Expedia and there are rooms available at the Holiday Inn, Landmark Inn, and the Brookshire Inn. There are also rooms available in Prestonsburg which is a short 20 min drive and rooms at the Ramada (very nice) in Paintsville which is a 30 min drive

Looks like the hotels in Pikeville are full. People are getting rooms in Prestonsburg 35 mins away.

I just looked and there are rooms available at the Landmark Inn and the Brookshire Inn and Suites. Also Pburg is only 25 min away and is a super easy drive. Paintsville is 35 min away. There is a super nice Ramada in Paintsville.

  7. Region 4 75 lb class had 4 kids place in the top 6. That region was stacked at that weight. Herbst from Carr academy was unranked most of the season and ended in 4th place. Wettlaufer from Woodford beat several top kids to place 6th. Surprised that Britt didn't place top 6 but he did win youth state. Region 4 alternate Ryan Smith (5th grade) from Johnson Co. won 2 matches beating the #10 ranked kid.

Who is this in the picture...the one with his hand raised is Jacob Richmond...so who did he wrestle?

That is Ethan Webb in that picture. Chase wrestled 168-170. But didn’t Chase beat Brophy from Ryle? Or did someone else from Ryle wrestle at that weight?

Jacob Lynn - is a freshman at OCHS

Chase Price - appears to be a freshman as well

Lambert - also appears to be a freshman

Maybe that will help narrow down the rankings in that grouping

    Thanks for doing these!

Chase Price is an 8th grader
