$20 a ticket for entrance fee is too stiff. Families want to bring brother, sister, and maybe grandma and are spending over $100 just to get in and sit around for 8 hours. Some schools let their students attend in support of their wrestling classmate without burning an unexcused day on Friday, but teenagers are loathe to have to spend on gas, $5 parking, $20 ticket and another $20-$25 for food just to support a classmate. Want to increase attendance? Lower entry fees. Prohibiting coolers and charging $7 for a chicken sandwich and $4 for a water is highway robbery too. I can pay it, but many can't. I too though the event was better with the tech this year compared to the previous two, but this feels a lot more like a Cincinatti Reds game than a KHSAA school event.  Just my .02.

    Agree 110%

Indiana's this Friday and Saturday: "Admission: $10 per session or $20 both days. Children 24 months old and younger admitted free of charge." and its at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

  2. Unfortunately no. I couldn't get area AD interested when I lived in BG 5 yrs ago. Ohio, Christian, Metcalfe , Hardin are you closest counties.

BG area are house some of the Biggest Football Teams, BG, South Warren Allen County, Franklin Simpson etc...Its a Wrestling Breeding ground IMO

  3. Why does everyone think Rupp and Yum would be to big? Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, Michigan are all held in arena. Freedom Hall or Yum would be more than ideal.

"Build it and they will come"

Schedule realignment, with actual backing from KHSAA all season long, Not just state finals.

Get KHSAA to encourage the none program schools to start programs.

  4. I've been saying it for years....

We need to get on same schedule the rest of the Wrestling States are on....all levels Youth to HS.

    HS Same Oct~Feb

MS and Youth start competition Jan 1st end of season tournament first of March

Freestyle/GR starts April 1st with tournament end of May

Puts you on schedule with Summer travel teams doing the Regional, Fargo trips.

Boom August is here for Football guys, Weight training for the others, Super 32, Who's #1...etc

October rolls in and we are fat and happy again...Rinse and Repeat

I pick a basketball arena like Rupp or Freedom Hall or WKU. Maybe rotate every year if possible.

I believe this may be beating a dead horse, as years past have indicated, but how do we try to get the ball rolling?  Contact Mike Breen? Contact Sarah Bridenbaugh? Is there a board of coaches who would do so? (There is not even a Sports Advisory Committee roster listed for wrestling) Honestly, if they gave us one hour (maybe less) to set-up before the finals we could do something great for the kids and spectators.

I'm with you on this one. I have emailed the KHSAA in the past with no replies. Tired of them only having something to do with Wrestling when they are going to make money off of it.

It would help if they tried to entice school participation to do a wrestling program. You have 10 core sports that are usually a norm across the nation:

    1. Golf
    2. Cross Country
    3. Football/Volleyball
    4. Soccer
    5. Wrestling
    6. Basketball
    7. Tennis
    8. Baseball/Softball
    9. Track
    10. Swimming

In Kentucky we have counties that have a sport but no surrounding county schools have them. All schools being built should have a facility to accommodate sports.

And older schools build a field house to help accommodate them. We asked Franklin County school board if we could build a multipurpose building for Volleyball, Wrestling, Archery, Track Conditioning, Cheer and dance teams. Well pretty much got told if I fund it and build to there specs and sign it over to School Corp then it they would do it...In back of my mind I was thinking yeah right...You'll re-purpose the facility to there liking and we would be shoved back to the small class rooms, hallways, etc.. to have our practices.  Lottery Money that is purposed to the schools shouldn't all be Academic, sports play a major role in developing these kids into being positive part of society.

  6. Nathaniel is truly a  Ambassador to the Sport of Wrestling. He is always been a positive young man to be around. Nathaniel's parents John and Julia are great people and have had the pleasure being around them on a personal/family level,  and pleasure to call them friends.  If you ever get a chance to sit and talk with Julia,  she will tell you a great story of Nathaniel, I won't spoil it with any details. Congrats to both Nate and Nathaniel, your both Champions!

I'm sure us fans would be glad to pay to watch it, or help someway to make it happen.

The Khsaa has a TV Broadcat KHSAATV and a Youtube channel, They broadcast the Boys and Girls BB Final games. I'd even ask a common public broadcast channel to do it.

Other states do it. If we could get a School's Media class to do it as a project on a youtube channel or Livestream.

  8. Been Watching Indiana's state final online on IHSAA Website and Fox Sports Indiana. I know Mizzu's was on TV as well. It matters how much effort the KHSAA wants to put into it. The Boys Basketball tourney should be played at Horse Park as well. Fair is Fair

  9. Sectional will allow when we outgrow adding another stages at the beginning, but only 2 advance at that phase. Its not perfect until numbers are up, we are a ways out from crossing the bridge

Its not about the teams at the State tournament, they have their own State Tournament. If we are worried about the amount of teams represented then lets start handing out the participation trophies now.

The reason for the post season is for the cream to rise to the top. I have seen 3rd regional finishers come back and win a their Semi-state and go one to place 5th at state. The multiple phases of the State Tournament allows if  you have the top 2 guys in weight class and are in the same Sectional, to battle the next 3 weeks. 1 match doesn't defy the rest of tournament, allows chances for redemption.

Im all about what we can do to help. I'm not coaching this year do to work, but I'm willing to be on a board/panel/think tank to come up with ideas and sit down with KHSAA and address our concerns and try to find a common ground. We need to find out why South Central area schools are reluctant to start programs.

There's enough division in the World today, lets work together and come up with a plan.
