Just now, 8798 said:Great idea. Some states even allow coaches to "scratch" certain refs so they are not allowed to work the matches for their team at the State Finals. (Not certain if it is allowed here.)
Agreed you should have the ability to scratch a ref.

Has there ever been a discussion regarding assessment of the officials? This will asure the best officials the state has to offer will be on the mat at state. The kids have to earn the right, official should as well.
Simply send out a list of all officials interested in officiating state tournament series. Coaches can rank officials performances. Based on knowledge, professionalism, maturity, experience and over all ability under fire.
Coaches will only critique those they have been exposed to.
Opinions please.

Sounds like there may need to be a mental attitude award.

That’s an interesting philosophy. Sad but, interesting.

The coach made the right decision. However, the adults booing did not.

Seems like you could wrestle a kid from your region first round. Not sure that’s a big deal or not.

What criteria do they follow? Would they seed a#2 in a region over a #1 from a different region? Or similar to what Ohio does, as mentioned above?

Is there any states that seed the state finals?? Indiana does not.

I've talked to the coaches to fix this. They said they did but I cant see where it changed. Could someone look and tell me what they see as his record? I'd really appreciate it. He also just wrestled in regions today at Johnson Central and qualified for state. He pinned the kid from Pikeville, the #2 seed in the region, in the 3rd round. I'd appreciate any help from anyone on getting this fixed. Thanks.
Did they have his record correct in region today? That’s what’s important. Final rankings will be out next Saturday night.

e didn't I'm assuming you think he wrestled Brennon Conrad, Neal Aldridge, and Ronan Wyatt
He actually wrestled Jake Richman, Timmie Dunham, and Joe Rivera

The rankings will be 100% correct in 2 weeks. He does a great job with limited data from several coaches.

I have issues with the loose fitting shorts. I’ve seen hands get stuck. They just need to be a bit more snug.

I preach this, there is no other sport that prepares you for every other sport like wrestling. Body control, conditioning, finding your limits and exceeding them. You learn leverage, you hear that lineman? It's going to make you better, period. Every year I seem to get 3 or 4 new wrestlers through coaching football.
I also preach it to my high school coaches to encourage it and our coaches seem to follow the boys during wrestling season so I know they dont discourage it.
More than likely the problem is, some football coaches feel it's a 2 way street and a lot of wrestling coaches dont like football because their wrestlers come in out of shape and beat up, sometimes out with an injury right off the bat. There's a lot of wrestlers who only wrestle and do it all year around to be as good as they can be. Football coaches dont like seeing a stud that maybe was also a stud in football in middle school but suddenly they think the coaches talked them out of it in fear of getting hurt for wrestling. Sadly, it's a legitimate concern. Wrestling is awesome for football but football is NOT for wrestling. Some wrestling coaches would prefer their wrestlers train for wrestling or run cross country and come in to the season already ahead of the game conditioning wise.
That's just my experience.
I’d say you on spot with your comments. What coaches of all sports should realize success breeds success. We can all build off of each other.

Let’s phrase this another way. Those of you that don’t have any football coaches on your staff. Do you get any support from football. Does your football staff discourage participation. If they do support you, how and why?
How would you guys suggest getting football coaches on board?

35 minutes ago, CUTiger184 said:Ray Graham is on board with us here at HC. I'm the defensive coordinator for HC football and head coach for wrestling the Co-defensive coordinator is on my wrestling staff as well. Not sure why coaches across the state do not promote wrestling to their football players. 1/2 of my roster are football players/wrestlers.
That’s great. You know what they say about team work?
-
Wondering which of you have football coaches on board? Seems to be a lot of football coaches not willing to promote wrestling as winter cross training. I honestly think their opinions are based on lack of knowledge of our sport.
Would like to see what everyone thinks. There’s a ton of a ex wrestlers on college rosters as well as several in pro-ranks.

We are talking about 13-18 year olds after all. I mean come on, I know a lot of grown men who psych themselves out from time to time.
I will agree with you.

Good luck to all who toe the line.

I’m sure all coaches train their kids hard for whomever. If a kid see a bracket and cause him not to perform well. Then he most likely wasn’t going far anyway . Everyone has their own philosophy. Beat the best to be the best is the only way.

20 minutes ago, coachteater said:Many teams dont have the coaching staff to go to a meeting on a weeknight and still have practice. Also you have teams that have as much as 2 hour drives to get to a meeting. You take 4 hrs of driving, plus the meeting time(region 7 took 3.5 hrs) and its very hard to do on a weekday
Monday was an example. Make it Sunday.
-
All regions should have the seeding the same night. Such as Monday before regions and all released right after. There’s always Changes but, the brackets should be out. Personally your kids should be worried about every kid they are wrestling. It only takes one move and 2 seconds to change the fate of both wrestlers.
