Exactly. That’s why I always ask the whiners to show me they can do better. Everyone always thinks there is some conspiracy against their kid.

Thank you for doing an impossible thankless job of ranking kids that may or may not ever wrestle beyond gradeschool. People need to remember it's not the end of the world if Jr isn't ranked. Or daughter. This is just fun conversation.

I agree Haystack, 2 year contracts would help a lot. I'm tired of teams backing out last second. You don't have to prepay, just be sure to bring your payment with you.  In the event of inclement weather obviously you wouldn't pay.

Contracts are a must in todays world. AD's can handle it with out much time spent. Copy and paste makes it easy. I do think pre pay is a must. Inclement weather is fully refundable and should be highlighted in contract.

  3. There's a few threads on youth wrestling. they mention weight cutting. This is my opinion it's dumb. They are children let them compete at whatever they weigh. Guy worried about 4th grade seed or something. Just baffles me. I'd be surprised if any have consulted a physician.

I agree with the premise, but it comes from the coach/parents/ grandparents. I took my granddaughter to a duals tournament yesterday. there were supposed to be several girls there they could wrestle. Most of the girls didn't show up. So my granddaughter and her teammate had to beg for matches, against boys. Thankfully due to supportive coaches, they got a couple of matches each. They both went one and one. I gave them matches, that I knew they would probably lose, but that would make them better. In wrestling, if you only focus on winning, you don't get better.

You just hit the nail on the head. And drove it in with one swing. Everyone with a child or grandchild needs this posted somewhere.

  4. It's little kids guys!!!!!!!!!       Let them get the experience and stay healthy. And not get burned out. Hopefully continue on to sucessful high school and college careers. It's all practice till state series starts at the high school level. I've seen many great young wrestlers never step foot on the mat in high school. As far as complaining about refs. If youve never refereed a match you can not complain period. Humans make mistakes. You would make mistakes as well. THANK YOU TO ALL OFFICIALS

The duals at St. X on Dec. 7th will include: St. X, Union, Cincinnati Moeller, and either Floyd Central (IN) or a West Virginia team (could be both but not certain).
    Ranked Wrestlers:
    106:
113: #1 Trayce Eckman (Union), #2 Matthew Meyer (St. X)
    120: #16 Gavin Ricketts (Union)
126: #5 Indiana Gavinn Alstott #2 Semi-State SS (Floyd Central), #10 Nathan Ohlmann (St. X), #20 Glenn Mayes (Union)
132: #2 Gabe Adams (Union), #6 Ryan Bellucci (St. X)
138: #2 Jake Insko (Union), #11 Indiana J Conway #4 SS (Floyd Central)
145: #2 Trevor Pogue (Union), #7 Zach Pledger (St. X)
152: #2 Payne Carr (Union), #2 Indiana Jonathan Kervin #1 SS (Floyd Central), #14 Kashiku Hutcheson (St. X), #14 Ohio D1 Kurt Thompson (Moeller)
160: #1 Dalton Russelburg (Union), #19 Jack Calvery (St. X)
170: #1 Stephen Little (Union), #2 Everett Marret (St. X)
    182: #1 Micah Ervin (Union)
    195: #10 Darius Moore (Union)
    220: #14 Elijah Calloway (Union)
    285: #1 Matthias Ervin (Union)

Insko and Conway should be interesting. 2-1 vs 2 is crazy for first meet. Starting off with a bang if they are all at their weights.

It basically comes down to the idea that some are trying to make wrestling a team sport instead of an individual sport.  It's been my point for years the team really doesn't matter its the individuals you focus on.  I have always been a fan of "this is my lineup, lets wrestle", the bumping and forfeiting drive me nuts.  In a dual I have rarely looked at the team score or moved kids around unless to get rid of two forfeits and give two kids a match who would otherwise get a forfeit, regardless of if I think my kid can win or not. I also only pull a kid if the opponent is greatly superior AND I think my kid may get physically hurt. (which I rarely do)

At best wrestling is a group sport, the individuals give points the the group.  If you coach the individuals up then the group/team will follow.

This is just my philosophy of wrestling not saying its right or wrong.

I completely agree with your philosophy. I would bump or ask the other coach to bump his kid up. Just to get 2 quality kids on the mat together. It's all practice until the state tournament series starts.

  7. I'm confused by this big school, small school thing. We line up shoulder to shoulder and weigh in. You step on the mat with a guy that weighs the same as you do.

You wrestle whomever is put in front of you.  You're in a tournament mid season!! Oh he's from a big school lets forfeit?

I know the argument will be lots of small schools can't fill out the weight classes. Lot's of big School can't either.

No matter your school size youre most likely not gonna win state in any division. If you don't have a full line up.

Probably had a couple close last year. Girls state (which is technically during regular season) had 113 girls last year. Making huge strides, huge thanks to all the coaches who believe in these girls and building these programs

Keep pushing  ladies. It's great to see the quality of female wrestling continue to climb.
