  1. So watching the nky news last night, they showed a regional basketball game in which St. Henry beat Cov Cath, the seats were packed almost full to capacity from what I could tell. And we as parents/coaches are being limited to watch these athletes from home if we’re lucky. Players and some fans stormed the floor, it looked exciting, as if we were back in time. But I guess those COVID rules don’t apply like most have said here. Good luck young men this weekend. And God bless you coaches for putting up with this insanity

So I paid and am good to go.  I thought there would be a little camera button next to each bout and I could click that to watch video.  Looks like instead you have to follow mat assignments and then just view that mat cam?

any advice?   Anything is an improvement over last year, just want to make sure I don’t miss the great 1st round matches!

Simply follow the dashboard, when the match pops up that you want to watch click watch live. You will have to follow the dashboard to keep up though

  5. Financially, having youth the day after middle school works because you already have the venue and the setup is already complete. As an organization it’s the best setup you can do to minimize cost. If you want to get technical every middle school team in this state is a youth team since we are not sanctioned through KHSAA. We wrestle under USA wrestling. We’re all club teams that some Middle Schools help fund. Keeping Middle School State and Youth state together saves for many. The parents can combine their trip for one weekend. Most coaches coach both Middle and Youth. Honestly to get a facility to hold youth state in March in Kentucky would be virtually impossible. Remember it’s about 1000 to 1500 wrestlers for youth. And with all the basketball going on in those first couple weeks of March you don’t have a chance finding a big enough Facility. Just my two cents.

This place isn’t the best to share information especially during the summer. I don’t think it was made clear on this thread where to find the state tournament venue.

It’s tough to find a venue... it’s tough to get people to meetings. It’s tough to make everyone happy. But what do you expect? Nobody to not say anything? I just hope this is a one year deal, and we can find a better location for years to come.

Unfortunately due to travel expenses I foresee teams not attending. ESP at the youth level. I pray that it’s not the case, but just being realistic.

This forum isn’t the forum for most information, www.kentuckyusawrestling.com , is where anyone that’s involved with coaching/running any youth/middle school organization. And as far as travel expenses go, that’s what fundraisers are for. Any organization at this level has to have that in order to pretty much go to any event in this state that is worthwhile. Unfortunately you’re correct in this “basketball state”, wrestling is a bottom tier sport. I coached for five years at this level and had too raise money throughout the year to be able to go to tournaments throughout the year across the state. Yes we didn’t make it to all of them. But we planned/funded most of the money to go to the state tournament wherever it was held.

  7. The funny part about all of this is that no matter where they have it, someone will complain, They (the board) who actually keep the middle school/ youth going in this state, searched for weeks for places that actually had a date open and a facility big enough to do the two day event . This is what they found. They post and gave ample time for teams/state to know. Do you know how hard it is too find a facility in this state during quote “basketball season” to give up a whole weekend for wrestling. One, I would be thankful they found a place to have the state tournament during wrestling season. Options in this state for arenas in February are really sparse. Do a search yourself and you’ll see

  9. My thoughts on this is simple, isn’t every team at youth a club team? From our bylaws there isn’t anything saying that you can’t combine youth teams and make a bigger club. As long as it’s chartered through USA Wrestling and has USA qualified coaches I don’t see the issue. Youth State Duals is an anomaly since at the youth level we don’t have youth dual tournaments all year except at state Duals.  Every youth tournament you go to all year is a bracket tournament. Also, youth kids can technically wrestle for any club they want to all year as long as they are chartered. One week he/she wrestles for one club for example the next week he/she wrestled for another club. As long as he/she is on their chartered roster I don’t know of any limitations. So from what I see there is no limitations on where your kid at the youth level can wrestle. As long as your kid is on that teams roster and it’s chartered and paid for by January 1st. I will say that these by laws need to be  addressed for that situation.

From what I understand. Some teams or individuals wouldn't compete in State Duels in the past, it wasn't worth the risk of losing a overall one seed. Seems petty. But its smart. That's why they were seeded before state duels. So everyone would agree to attend State duels. I could be wrong. So don't quote me. But that is my understanding of why the seeding happened before State duals.

Seeding has always been the Monday night after regionals. State Duals has truly nothing to do with the seeding of state.  But if it were held in season and not in between 2 postseason events it would help dramatically. I personally don’t agree with having it in between the post season tournaments of regionals and state. Have it the last weekend of regular season and do it like high school. Have 2 divisions and invite 12 teams each division. Teams lose kids after regionals. Just my 2 cents

So will there be an opportunity to reseed?  152 was a huge miss, I went to State Duals to specifically watch this match and it wasn't even close (nor was Church's match against Anderson's 168).  Again, I agree that the cream will rise to the top, but the best wrestlers shouldn't be lumped into one side of the bracket, it just makes for a weak finals match.

The only people who can change that for the better is the board and the five coaches representing the five regional winners at this point. I am neither, it would come down to them

Lane Kiser just owned Preston Church at the State Duals. Kiser was beating Church 14-3 and then Kiser decked him. Yeah to be fair to Adams, Adams should be seeded 1st

This is why State Duals would be great to have during the season, teams actually get to see other teams from across the state. Already see a couple of upsets and that helps with rankings and seeding. And they missed the seeding at 152 pretty badly of the regional champs. Hopefully they will change that bracket for the kids at that weight classes sake.

I haven’t been a part of middle school wrestling for a few years now, but it sounds like to me that having 5 Regions is a huge problem. Obviously it’s too late this season, but this needs to be addressed. Either go back to 4 Regions taking the top 4 finishers, or go to 8 Regions and only take the top 2. Just make the new 8 Regions the old 8 Districts. Having pigtail rounds at State just doesn’t sound right.

We went to 5 regions this year because of the travel situation for teams. Not enough teams to support 8 regions. With teams showing up one year and dropping the next it’s rough at the middle school level to be honest. My suggestion would be (6)regions and (5)qualifiers. Would get us up to 30 kids at State with only 2 byes, thus allowing balanced brackets with an even number of regions in which need to create balance when seeding.

I wish we could create some new tournaments that would let these boys ,and girls see each other  more throughout the year .Asking teams to travel 3 hours each weekend is tough, and in the winter sometimes impossible , but maybe 1 or 2 big ones each year that would be worth the trip for everyone! That would make for a lot better discussion ,and possibly  help with seeding come State. As for the brackets ,it’s hard to watch the three best kids in any bracket fight for one spot in the finals ,but everyone pretty much agrees that the best wrestler should win no matter what . A true second place match would be nice ,but I still live in the real world ..lol

    good luck to all !!

Yes, I’m voting we could move State Duals to the regular season and get it more centrally located so that more teams can come. I think it would be neat to do a two day State Duals in the beginning of February. Have pools the first day and then  bracket it out the second. I wonder if that would spark interest?

The 3’s Wrestling 4’s are the rat tail rounds. Once again that’s going to happen with the way the brackets are formed. 2’s vs2’s have to happen as well. Take in mind that the (1)’s have earned the easier draw and their first match unless it’s a bye should be against the lower seeds (a 3 or a 4). The 2’s battle it out for a chance at a 1 seed in the quarter final round.

And looking at 121, it’s one of the more balanced brackets out of all of them. Every one seed and every 2 seed has a bye in the first round. 4/4,3/4,3/4,3/4 is what I’m seeing in the rat tails. 1/4 or 3, 2/2, 1/3,1/3,1/4or3,2/2,2/3,1/4 or3 is what I’m seeing in the round of 16. No other way of balancing it out other then that.

The regional winners seeds aren’t the problem. I haven’t looked at all the weight classes yet, but I can tell you that at 121, the above is not happening. There are 3’a wrestling 4’s and 2’s wrestling 2’s in the first round.
