Realizes that was a bad idea as well. 190- Long over Rodriguez in an overtime thriller. Holmes celebrates with a dance off on the side of the mat. 240-Wayne over Stevenson pin in 3rd period off a nasty over/under hip throw on the edge of the circle, Jason arguing that he was on his toes and not his knees. Hoping these predictions make some people smile and laugh. Truthfully we have some amazing talent and we’re growing each year. These kids deserve and earn everything they get and as coaches we should sit back and look at what we’re accomplishing as a group and continue to keep leading our young men and women in the correct ways. Good luck to all!!!

    Youth state registration

Things that make you go hmmmmm, (1) is preregistration even required when we had to preregistration at youth regionals already. (2) we’re doing an official on site weigh in the day before and the day of, wouldn’t that solidify who’s going to be there and replace the need for said preregistration? (3) with that weighin, you would then know exactly how many kids from each club/School is actually there eliminating kids having to be scratched and clubs/schools having to pay for kids not Wrestling. (4) You can’t formulate brackets without the actual weighins being completed, I get the registration at the middle school weights, they have supplemental weight gaps between classes. At the youth age weight classes they only differ by 3 pounds in the lower weight classes.

I found it quite humorous. Lol

    Middle School and Youth State

That’s the easy part, each region gets 4 club teams and 4 school teams invited. You must be able to fill 10 weights of the 15 available. If regions can’t get enough schools to commit, then it’s open invite after that.

    Middle School and Youth State

Mid Season and we get all teams at full strength with no dodging of competition. Also allows us the chance to see teams from all 4 corners of the state before the state tournament. And maybe get to actually wrestle against them or have a common opponent at least for the seeding of the state tournament.

    Middle School and Youth State

I’m all up for MS duals if we did it like high school does. Split Club and School teams and do it mid to late December in the heart of the season. Not knowing if you “qualify” or not makes it hard on teams to keep their kids and parents interested. Especially the ones that didn’t qualify for Middle School State. Also doing it the same weekend as high school doesn’t help the cause when you lose 3 of your kids to the high school team for their state duals. It would entice more teams to come. I guarantee that. Only stipulation would be you would have to have at least 10 spots filled on your team to come. 12 School teams and 12 club teams.

    Middle School and Youth State

Did you read the bylaws Chris? The middle school qualifiers (top 4 in each region) are automatically ineligible for youth state. The alternates are still eligible for youth state. So no that isn’t the case. Once qualified, you are ineligible. So if you’re on the fence make sure they finish 5th and they’re eligible for youth. Other then that, we’ll vote on making changes in the spring on our conference call. I’m running for election in 2036. Hence the sarcasm in this please.

    Middle School and Youth State

Here is the best example I can give, Have a 7th grader that just started wrestling last year. He’s a 500 wrestler meaning he is 15/15, probably going to place 4th in middle school Region. And is youth eligible according to our bylaws. Going to get killed at state once the tougher kids from the rest of the regions combine at state. And it would benefit him as far as self confidence and “mat time” to wrestle youth state. But unfortunately he won’t have that opportunity. I personally think that’s a better example then “the hammers” not being able to wrestle youth state. That’s the definition of growing our youth. Just my 2 cents

    Weather/practices this week

I don’t want to sound negative, just want some opinions on things. (1) Our School is cancelled for tomorrow which means we can’t have practice tomorrow night. We’re off school obviously today for MLK day in which we can’t practice today either (2) We have “youth weigh ins” tomorrow night from 6-8 pm, in which over half of my middle school team is eligible to wrestle in. This hampers me from having practice tomorrow night from 6-8pm at Twenhofel. Depending on how my kids place at middle school regions determines who can wrestle youth. So I have to at least take them to weigh ins tomorrow. Cancels another practice night. (3) We have middle school regional seed meeting Thursday night 6-8pm. Once again right when I can practice. Being the only licensed coach for my school means I have to decide which to go to. The seed meeting I understand, this “mandatory youth weigh in” is what I don’t. If middle school kids are weighing in on Saturday of middle school regionals, why wouldn’t that count for both? They wrestle both? Then coaches could send their youth only to weigh in at the certified youth weigh in. And I could have practice with the Middle School wrestlers on Wednesday night. I know must club teams don’t have this issue as you can have assistant coaches run your practice without you there. This is a MAJOR issue with us coaches associated with middle school teams. Just looking for opinions on this. Thanks

    Twenhoffel Class Act

It’s a pleasure coaching kids that just want to wrestle and get better. That’s what we do it for. It doesn’t matter the color of the singlet, of course I want to make my own kids better. But any young man or woman competing in this sport deserves that attention. I would hope any coach and team would accept extra’s and help another young man or woman the same way I helped him. It’s truly my pleasure and thank you for the opportunity to coach him.

    Rankings 11-5-17

After week 3, I can give you info and results for us Chris, we basically see the same teams 2 weeks in a row. And then I can give you a list of kids we got and at least some head to head match ups and actual weights where they are at. Thanks again.

    State Finals

Broadbent would be a great place for the state tournament in my opinion, yes you would have to rail off the wrestling mats because you can only enter the stands through the floor level unlike Alltech. That is one con for the Arena. It's a concrete floor so that's a pro for it. I think it would need more concessions for sure. We could get the atmosphere back in that arena.

    questions re: byes vs forfeits

It was brought up as a general question and a logical one, I've wondered this for years. From a points perspective, I think it should be equal to a forfeit in bracket tournaments ( 2 for advancement in championship round + 2 for bye/forfeit/dq/pin) in the conso round ( 1 for advancement + 2 for bye/forfeit/dq/pin). So it would be max points given for it.

    Brackets

And then the winner gets Huston in the quarters, that's a tough draw right there
  19. twenhofelcoach

113 ( or whatever the weight is now)

I personally like the way they seed the middle school, seed the regional winners and the rest plays out. If the one ranked kid and the two ranked kid are in the same region they automatically get placed opposite side of bracket. At least you've seperated what rankings call the top ranked kids. Upsets are bound to happen, that is what makes this sport exciting. I personally think it's unfair to the kids.

    KSWA Youth State Tournament weigh-ins

I believe that we as an organization are moving in the right direction. This is not criticism, just some thoughts. 1. I love the fact that we did track wrestling for the first time this year. Unfortunately, we as an organization don't have the money to put 24 electronic time clocks and 24 tablets/lab tops at each table yet. Suggestion- flip top scoring so that we could see the scores on each mat would of been great. Then the tablets/ lab tops could still run the bouts and keep scoring for the tournament. 2. As far as the volunteers go, I believe we volunteered over 25 people to help on Sunday at youth. We also covered a table all day on Saturday. I know Darren was yelling for me all day on Sunday, we only had 3 coaches on Sunday afternoon for our 16 wrestlers. We had 6 kids on different mats going at once. Hard to coach 2 kids at the same time. Especially not knowing when they are coming up. Obviously these issues are a good thing. In many tournaments we just let the next kids wrestle and come back to that match at youth events but with track you can't skip that bout. So you have to wait for a coach to come free. Again, that just takes up time. I'm not the only coach with that problem. I believe that overall the tourney went well. Minor things to fix. We need to get everyone to the meetings in Spring and Fall to hammer things out. Our communication as a group needs to get better as a whole. We can't run a battleship with just 3 people.

    Rankings vs Results

For your 1st year of doing the rankings Chris, I think you did a pretty good job of them. It's hard to do the whole state without being able to see all of these kids the whole year. I personally want to say thank you for doing them. It takes time to do them. Time away from your family that many don't realize.

    KSWA State Duals

Once again thank you Coach Carr and Union County for stepping up and hosting , very well ran and some great wrestling. Congrats to Ryle Raiders for winning State Duals today. All teams competed and wrestled hard, great sportsmanship and very classy by all fans attending. Well worth the trip. Have a great week of practice everyone and let's bring that type of wrestling next week at the State Tournament.
