I would also like to know. I've always been able to ignore his ramblings until he spouted about CC being handed a title. To my recollection there were two other state champions on that team and guys behind the Myers boys who would've scored points if they weren't there. Can take a lot but not someone disrespecting my alma mater.

  3. Seriously why has a simple post about some wrestling replacements turned into a name calling argument? We are all supposed to be adults and setting a good example for our young wrestlers, some of which read this forum. What kind of example are we setting? I personally feel that this discussion has gone way of track. Stop the bickering and name calling on an open forum, go private with it. We have had enough of this negative crap the last several weeks and it is giving the kids a bad view of our sport, which we all are supposed love. I want our sport vto thrive in Kentucky but when the adults leading the way start acting worse than the youths we lead then we  are not going to thrive. IMHO.

  4. We can argue who is the best wrestler in the state till we are blue in the face. However there is no way to calculate that. we can only calculate (using known facts) who is statistically the best wrestler per weight class. I personally have my favorites based on heart, enthusiasm and love for the sport. Some are my wrestlers and most are from other schools.to say Spencer, Blue, Noah or the Raney twins are the best in the state is not a valid argument these young men represent 5 different weight classes. Certainly they are the best wrestlers statistically, but this weekend we saw several upsets and we all know that ant given match 1 tiny mistake can and has caused a loss. I can honestly say that I personally believe every kid in Kentucky is better for having parents and coaches like us who are there win lose or draw. Lets keep moving forward and hopefully before we all die we can catch up to the rest of the country in numbers.

  5. Insurance is your insurance primary, school secondary and the USA Wrestling.

When it costs $15 a card and you have 20-30 kids on a team that equals to $300-$450 that the school must pay for those kids to participate. And for many school teams that comes from the HS wrestling budget.

Plus the cost of each tournament, transportation and coaches fees at some tournaments. This is one reason we have issues with our budget.

What public boards like this does is allow everyone, not just coaches to voice an opinion.  Or maybe a way of seeing things that others do not.  It allows those that are in the position to make the laws/rules to see all sides of the argument.  In many cases it gives the general public the how and why rules and regulations are passed.  There are many things that Joe Public may not know.

Plus it gives me someone else to argue with instead of my wife. :D

    GOO,

I agree that's why i stated if you are a parent push your coaches. B)

Everyone on here knows how bashful I am so be easy on me. The questions and counterpoints are all valid,I know we have been told directly for our athletic department we are covered under the school policy. There are pros and cons to affiliation with USA Wrestling. We as coaches need to voice these at meetings. We can discuss all these issues till we lose feeling in our hands but if that's all we do we are doing our sport and our kids a great disservice. If you are a coach make it a point to attend the meetings, if you are a parent push your coaches to attend the meetings. We are supposed to be the elders and leaders lets show our youth that we actually care about them and their future.I am one of the !st to moan and complain if i disagree with something, but if I didn't make a particular then I keep my trap shut. (WHICH IS NOT EASY) I disagree with the new rule about qualification for stae at middle school eliminating a kid from youth, but i was not at the meeting to voice my opinion so i deal and just say it is what it is. Lets stop moaning and groaning, we can discuss as adults then attend the coaches meetings and make a difference.

I believe to say( we fall under USA wrestling) is not entirely accurate. USA wrestling is for insurance purposes. School teams already have insurance through the school. Club teams however do not as they are not affiliated with a school system, so yes clubs need insurance. In my opinion it’s a redundant cost on an already strained budget across the entire state. Would you purchase two insurance policy’s on your home?

    Louden,

We are now Kentucky Folkstyle Wrestling Committee under the umbrella of USA Wrestling. We are a committee they are the governing body.

MOW is a joke. You must know the right coaches and live in the right demographic area. Wish it would be more lead by accomplishments.

    My opinion.

Interesting statement. MOW is about individual accomplishments, I have seen kids from #1 seed all the way down to a #10 seed who took 2nd place in overtime earn it. This sounds like either a kid who feels cheated or a parent upset his kid didn't get an MOW.

  10. Plain and simple what Ryle did is perfectly legal, like it or not. They came to our duel we bumped our 190 to wrestle their heavy to make sure he got to wrestle the bumped a 92 up to 105 so my guy could wrestle. We all are supposed to have the best interest of our kids and teams as primary concern. It had been said before and will be said I like coach Raney but his actions should not go under the rug. Our kids are number 1 period. That being said I informed Tyler I would like my name on the Ballot for Youth Vp this weekend. We need to get back to basics and focus on them not us.

It is my understanding that we follow KHSAA (i.e. NFHS) EXCEPT where outlined in our bylaws. According to those rules an unsportsmanlike dq does result in  further discipline for both wrestlers and coaches. I believe that is sitting out 2 additional events.

    Ranger,

I looked into it after I first read this thread. KHSSA does call for further penalties, however i was unable to find anything in NFHS or USA wrestling rules that call for anything more than that particular day. If you know where to find it please tell me so I can have it for future reference.

    70- Vega over Gardner 6-3

75- Tucker over Raney 5-3 overtime takedown at the edge

    80-Sander over Spaulding 6-4

86-Moore over Begley 12-4, puts his dad on his shoulders and carries him off, takes over coaching the rest of the finals

92-Thomas over Giompalo 8-4, thinks about putting his dad on his shoulders and realizes that’s a bad idea, gets a bear hug and a smack on the “Rump”

105- Thorton over Walls 8-7, Spencer gets his first coaching State Champ

    113- Roberts over Andreoni 8-3

    121-Goss over Messerly 8-5

130- Fletcher over Phillips Pin in 2nd period, walks off of mat to grab a Woodford County hat and announces where he’s going to wrestle for high school.

    140-Hatchett over Wittry 6-5.

    152-Little over Freeman 8-4.

168- Giannone over Bikakis 10-5, walks off mat and blasts a double on Joe-Joe. Realizes that was a bad idea as well.

190- Long over Rodriguez in an overtime thriller. Holmes celebrates with a dance off on the side of the mat.

240-Wayne over Stevenson pin in 3rd period off a nasty over/under hip throw on the edge of the circle, Jason arguing that he was on his toes and not his knees.

Hoping these predictions make some people smile and laugh. Truthfully we have some amazing talent and we’re growing each year. These kids deserve and earn everything they get and as coaches we should sit back and look at what we’re accomplishing as a group and continue to keep leading our young men and women in the correct ways. Good luck to all!!!

Keith you are killing me. Spencer has done that before and yes I probably would yell in that situation. Would it be appropriate for me do do the worm into a back spin?

I guess there's no rule regarding a coach being kicked out of a tournament? If that is the case than I would say no it's not a double standard.  It would be like one arguing that the 70lb Raney boy should get the 1 seed over the Vega boy because the Vega kid's coaches chose to run from the head to head opportunity because so long as the Vega/Raney match doesnt occur Vega maintains criteria because he was a state placer last year.  I would have no problem with that match avoidance being counted as a forfeit but rules are rules. The rules don't say anything about avoiding a match to avoid a loss so that one doesn't lose seeding criteria so the wrestler that is avoiding a match can't be penalized for it.  Just like the rules don't say anything about a coach having to miss state because he was kicked out of state duals. Maybe come next time rules meeting come around both of these situations can be addressed and we would avoid situations like this past weekend.  Because if you ask me it sounds like poor sportsmanship on both coaches. One was just not as explosive and visible as the other but present none the less.  However I see the other to have the potential of having a lasting negative impact on the wrestler than I do the one that got kicked out.  At least the one that got kicked out can speak to his team about how his actions were wrong and apologize.  The coach teaching his wrestler to run from a challenge and get something the easy way (the 1 seed)..... Well how's he going to address that? He's probably not.

I am of a different opinion,if a coach bumps or drops a wrestler that is his decision. Regardless of his reasons it has been and always will be permitted. On the other hand you have a coach that lost his cool on the mat and verbally assaulted another coach out loud for everyone to hear, unsportsmanlike. Had that been a parent i hope the same consequences would have been levied. We have to remember we are there for the kids, we are supposed to be not just role models but good role models. The fact that the coach in question is a member of the board only compounds the issue, board members are also held to a higher standard than coaches as they should be.I know Coach Raney and personally I like him he has been a good coach and board member, however that does not excuse his actions last Saturday. He was ejected, took his punishment and that is that further punishment is not warranted by our by-laws, USA Wrestling or NFHS. His standing on the board is yet to be determined as both Youth VP positions are up for election this weekend. I suggest if this incident has swayed anyone opinion on that then they should vote accordingly.

That being said i do not personally attack other coaches or board members publicly neither do I  condone it. There is a Coach at Scott County who every time we face each other he gets my goat and he enjoys the hell out of it, we bicker back and forth. When the match or tournament are over we laugh and move on, neither one of us has ever tried to publicly humiliate one another or a wrestler. Sometimes adults forget we are here for the KIDS not ourselves, they are our future and if we don't set the standard then in 20 years were will Kentucky wrestling be?
