  1. Attached is this year's Battle of the Brave tournament flier. We still have room for about 3 more teams. We will stop taking teams once we get 30 teams to allow teams that are already committed to bring their alternates. Last year was a great tournament with a lot of competition and this year we look to make it even better. We wanted to reward these wrestlers who battle through this tough tournament this year so we will be giving out 3 Custom Tomahawks for MOW's, Individual Custom medals 1st-6th, and Team Trophies 1st-3rd. Champions will recieve custom shorts. They can be seen at the bottom of the flier. Please let me know if your team is interested. We will allow individuals to enter the tournament for $30.00 however they need to contact me as soon as possible to ensure their spot.

This is the latest list I have.  I created the tournament on trackwrestling to let the 30 teams compete but also to allow 50 individual wrestlers to participate that aren't attached to the team. Please let me know if I have left you off or if I have made a change that is not accurate,

  3. Union County will be hosting:the 2nd Battle of the Brave Middle School and High School JV wrestling tournament Dec 20th, 2014. If intrested please contact Jason Brown @ gavin11403@yahoo.com. We had a great tournament last year the middle school averaged 22 kids per bracket and the JV all got 3-5 quality matches and still finished by 530. Please make sure I have you down to come we are taking the first 29 teams. Last year we had 26 middle schools so spots will be limited.

    When: December 20th

    Where: John Arnold arena

What: Middle School and JV Tournament

    Bracketed Tournament

  4. I think it should be up to the kids wrestling. If they place top 4 they can't wrestle youth state but we would consider making them wrestle on the youth team doesn't make since to me. From the looks of it we have the youth parents willing to travel and not middle school. Middle school took 4 forfiets at nationals. If you have a 8th grader that is ready to compete at high school and a spot open on Varsity you don't say well let's leave him down to help the middle school compete. The 8th grader goes to Varsity and the middle school finds someone else to fill that spot. Yes it hurts the middle school a little but it leaves it open for another kid to wrestle. The kids that filled those spots deserved them the wrestle tough and competed well. I believe they all went to state and at least 3 placed.

  5. some teams can't get a invite to some of these tourneys because they do not have enough kids

Union County hosted Battle of the Brave and invited everyone. We took teams with extras, teams with 3 wrestlers, and even unattached wrestlers. We got great hotel rates and even put a couple teams up. We had an average of 24 wrestlers per bracket and was out by 530. Last year I was at a smaller school and still got my two kids into Bearcat Brawl and WCI most of the time you just have to ask. Just one or two tough in state tournaments helps get kids ranked appropriately.

  6. The middle school Region winners coaches did a conference call each team got a chance to talk about their wrestler. We looked at head to head, common opponents, win percentage, and last years placement. In that order. I think it went really well but could have been shorter if there was a mandatory amount of in state tournaments. Region 1 has 3 big tournaments John Hardins veterans memorial, trojan at North Hardin, Battle of the Brave at Union County had on average 24 kids in a bracket, Region 2 has raider rumble, North Oldham duals, Eat Oldham had something, Region 3 Bearcat Brawl, Campbell County Duals, NKY tournament, and Region 4 has WCI. If you go to two of these events I guarantee you will at least have a common opponent. Union County was scheduled for 6 but snow cancelled Campbell County duals. Region 4 was the only one we didn't travel to but would like to.
