  1. Team KY still needs

    2-220lbs

    2-275lbs

    1-150lbs

    1-160lbs

This is a great opportunity to challenge yourself build lasting friendships. Almost everyone that went last year won state this year or placed high. If you are interested you can contact me at gavin11403@yahoo.com or 270-498-4662

  2. If you are interested in Team KY and can't make the trials please let your coach know and he will send myself and Jason Moore an email with the reason the can't compete and the weight class they would like to challenge for. Remember you will still have to pay the competitor fee when you come to challenge for the spot.

  3. Youth winning Middle School State Championships isn't that common. How many 3 time State Champions are there? Last year was only the 3,4,and 5 time a 5th grader has won.

70 pound winners last 3 years

    13 Zeke Escalera 5th geade

    12 Zach Holub 8th grade

    11 Tanner Yenter 8th grade.

USA National Duals start at 75

KY is about the only team that has any youth on there team. The ones that are winning the national duals don't have any.

  4. I want to send the 8th graders to high school with the best team KY experience as possible. They have worked hard to get where they are and we should want to provide them with the best chance they have to win and sometimes it is having a younger wrestler on the team. This decision is left up to each wrestler if they qualify for both age groups. Our youth team would be better if they stayed down this year. If they wrestle with the middle school they are getting more experience and making room for another youth to get experience at the national level. The more kids we have competing at this level the better prepared we will be when they are older.

Gavin and I have talked and he has made the decision to wrestle with the middle school because he believes that this is the next step to achieve his goals. This will also help get ready for Super 32 and all middle school preseason tournaments that he wrestles in. I have a feeling his teammates that can do either may feel the same way. We should still have quite a few that will really help the youth team. We have at least 12-14 kids with national tournament experience and look to add a few more this year.

  5. JC1 My name is Jason Brown from Union County and was elected president Tyler Baines is from River City was elected vice president. I have been coaching at Union County the last two years and have been involved in every league meeting we have had as well as Tyler. I also helped coach team KY last year. I truly believe that everyone that ran for office has the best interest for KY middle school wrestling without any hidden agenda's. Darren Thomas would have been a great president and I have no doubt that he will continue to be involved with the officers of the league to give his support and knowledge to help us grow as a state as I would have done with him. He is a true ambassador of the sport. KY Wrestling is heading the right direction. The officer's of the league simply facilitate mostly it is the coaches that come to the meetings to provide input and feedback. Last year I recommend that we have a joint practice during the meeting so that people aren't just driving down for a meeting then heading right back home. We did it in the fall and had a pretty decent turnout. This spring I would like to have 2 sessions of practice so it is worth everyones drive and hopefully increase the coaches that participate. I think most people knew who everyone on the ballet was. I agree with you when the term is up and it is time to elect new officials we will take time and have everyone introduce themselves in the coaches meeting. When we talked about it at the coaches meet Jason Moore did say if you don't know who they are find out and talk to them but I know most were more worried about coaching their kids as they should be. So in the future we will try to take care of it before we get started. Welcome to KY I look forward to working with to grow our sport.

  6. After looking at several options we have decided to stay with the orignal date Mar 14 for the youth team trials. This obviously may not be the most convenient for some wrestlers who have went to other tournaments in the past. We want to take the best team that we can to these tournaments and have came up with an option for wrestlers that desire to travel to another tournament that week. There are 2 Ways you can still be eligible to challenge for a spot on the youth team 1. You were on team KY last year. Or 2. If you choose to attend another tournament and you weren't on the team last year you must place at that tournament to be eligible to challenge. If you can't make it to the team trials you must contact Coach Yost at coachyost@gmail.com, Coach Moore at Jason.moore@anthem.com, or Coach Brown at gavin11403@yahoo.com

  7. Let me be clear. At no point did I dismiss your kids. There was a date set for this tournament and it didn't work for you because it is the same weekend you go to a national tournament. Kids may have other reasons they can't make it. My point earlier was we shouldn't move it for a small group but there should be an opportunity to earn a spot. Also if the decided to move it the week of NCAA'S we won't be there if there is a way to earn a spot then my kids would take that opportunity. If not I will take my own 6th grade and under team and will have to use kids from the middle school team KY to compete.

  8. Bowlbear1 there are plenty of opportunities to go to national tournaments before Heartland. Dominate the Dells and Cliff Keen just off the top of my head.  It is crazy we have a seeding meeting for middle school state and it is hard to get head to heads because Northern KY wrestles a lot in Ohio, Eastern KY wrestles their whole season in WV and now all the sudden we need to see some out of state competition before we wrestle National Duals.

  9. I can't believe that we would consider moving Team KY trials for 5 kids.  If there are kids that are interested in wrestling for the team and can't make I believe there is a way to work it out.  If the tournament is moved to the same weekend that NCAA's are happening there will be at least 10 that wrestled for the team last year and the extras I was bringing for this year won't be there so maybe we should move it to another date.  No date is perfect for everyone.  As an organization we need to do what makes sense.  I have been to the AAU nationals it isn't like Tulsa or Cliff Keen events. There is a tournament like that almost every weekend. Indy Nationals and Liberty Nationals are this weekend I would like to go to those but instead I will be at KY Youth State.
