  1. I just saw Isaac Thorton lose a match to Super 32 Champion 6-4 and should have had a takedown that was called out of bounds.

Byrant Bean, Spencer Moore, Cole Thomas,  Tanner Spaulding, and all the Messerly’s looked really good against some of the best kids from Ohio.

I wish they would have been able to bring full squads. Walton Verona finished 4th and Ryle finished 5th. This is extremely impressive since Ohio follows the 5 match rule and most KY kids didn’t get favorable duals. Lose first match best you can do is 7th.  Only teams to finish higher two were clubs and the other was Graham who got 3rd.

  2. Gameface there may have been some miscommunication on my part. I said send those boys up north in Ohio. Where everyone has the option to where the optional two piece uniform. I am glad that Ohio didn't talk to the same idiot so called health professionals that said it increases injuries like plantman did. I am also glad they are taking an opportunity to reach more kids to help have a positive impact on their life's in a sport that will help them with some of the insecurities they may have as well increase Ohio's numbers to help make an elite wrestling state

  3. Great topic gameface.  There is no down side to giving teams an option to where the two piece uniform. Get the kids in the room.  Most big kids struggle with confidence which is the perfect reason to get them in the sport.  The uniform two pieces is still form-fitting it keeps everything inside the shirt. The incease in injury because of the uniform is just a joke. I have never been in a wrestling practice where kids wore just singlets. If this was a real issue it would be required just as it is for football players to be in full pads to have full contact.  If a team has singlets and have the same design for two piece there is no problem. You are just making up rules to fit arguments when I was at Union county I had kids wearing two different singlets that were different colors and had no issues but now every one must match what a joke.  I hope this passes and Ky kids some more kids out. I would love to see the state close the gap on the other states

  4. It is random draw for younger kids. The older ones like Blue people know who they are and try to separate them some but aren't seeded. If they were trying to show favoritism they didn't do very well since there kid is on the same side of the bracket  as your kid.  True 2nd might not be a bad option. I see it used as World of Wrestling events and Tennessee state  uses it.

  5. The only way an onsite doctor has any say at all is if the tournament director has appointed a doctor over the tournament. This tournament didn't have one so everyone in the could have been doctors and it wouldn't have mattered. Typically ringworm that has been treated for 3 or 4 days starts to fade or isn't really that red.  It is unfortunate it happens every year. The good thing is it is his 8th grade here and not his senior year.  Hopefully he gets a chance to represent team ky and has a successful high school year

  6. A kid that shows up from a school team can compete and if they were injured they would be covered under the USA wrestling card for insurance. Schools want the least amount of liability as possible because everyone sues for everything. If I were running the tournament  I would help coach that kid since I went through everything to be a certified  coach and yes I would probably let a parent sit with me if they wanted. I coached a kid 2 years ago that was on a school team and his coach wasn't allowed to be there. Luckily they never wrestled one of my kids but if they had j would have grabbed another coach that was certified to help him.

  7. Thanks to everyone who came out today and stayed mostly patient with us through the difficulties today with our Internet problems. While there was a lot of down time I was still eating dinner at 6 so can't complain too much. There was a lot of great matches this weekend. We will do a follow up on the Battle of the Brave soon.

    Teams

    1 River City

    2 Mater Dei

    3 Walton Verona

    4 Union County

  8. I would like to start off by thanking all the teams that make it over to Union County to make this one of the toughest  in state middle school tournaments.  This year Union County is going thru a little bit of a transition with us leaving and be so busy trying to get into our routine in Ohio this tournament is down a little with some teams thinking that we weren't hosting because I left but with that said this will  tournament will have some great brackets and a ton of highly ranked wrestlers around KY. Like we have in the past Champions will get custom fight shorts with there name customized on them.

    70- 1 Ranked Wrestler

#1 Spencer Moore  looks to be the favorite here State Placer and Preseason National Champion as to mean something

IN Blake Zirchelbach, Aiden Roe, Rowdy Benner will be battling out to get on the podium

    75 3 Ranked Wrestlers

#1 Isham Peace- has been looking tough this year and looks to take the top spot at Battle of the Brave and at the State Tournament after being the runner-up the last 2 years the expirence he got in the post season may prove to be to much for the young guns.

#6 Cael Miracle and #2 (70) Braedon Herron are both young but very talented wresters

Others to Watch Caden Polites and Gage Fowler and should be in the Rankings soon Ranger

80 4 Ranked Wrestlers 2 Out of State

#1 Samuel Grandstaff gets the tops seed here with is State Runner up finish from last year. He has been wrestling tough and will have to continue to do so to win here.

OH Brayden Brown gets the 2 seed here with his placements are Preseason Nationals and Tulsa Nationals. Followed by #3 (75) Devon Herron State placer from last year. IN Alec Freeman and #3 Luke Chapman  with be right there.

Others to Watch #7 Gavin Andreoni and Trayce Eckman and should be in the Rankings soon Ranger

86 4 Ranked Wrestlers 1 Out of State

#2 Jacob Grandstaff  another State Runner up from last year will have to wrestle tough to win. I believe this with be one of the closer finals matches.

IN Brody Bauman will be a tough one to get past I see him all over the country and think that Virginia Beach last week will have him ready.

#2 (80) Jayseen Hanson, #3 Matthew Moore,  are right behind the top 2 and will have to wrestle a great match to knock of the top 2

Others to Watch #6 Nathan Ohlmann

92 3 Ranked Wrestlers 1 Out of State

OH Gavin Brown 2X KY State Champion and with Placements at Tulsa and Preseason Nationals along with 4 Nationals Duals this season he will be tough to beat.

#1 Carson Decker a state placer should make it the finals

#7 Gus Roberts and #8 Dylan Preston will try to make a statement here

Others to Watch Reece Goss has a win over #6 Hoppes and should be in the Rankings soon Ranger

98 2 Ranked Wrestlers 1 Out of State

#1 Zeke Escalera 2X KY State Champions and with placements at Preseaon Nationals and Super 32 and a great showing at Virgina Beach he is another one that will be tough to beat.

Gideon Adams is the 2 seed and will be highly ranked by the end of the season and will have a great match with #3 Zach Pledger but should come out on top.

Others to Watch IN Will Orth

105 3 Ranked Wrestlers 1 Out of State

#2 (92) Ethan Wells State qualifier from last year looks to get on the KY State Podium this year.  This is one Ranger still needs to change weights can't see him going any lower than 98 should be UHA's high school 106 this season but lack of results is making it near impossible for Rankings

Challenging for the Top spot will be IN Cole Ross and #11 (113) Dalton Russelburg who will probably stay at 105 all year

Others to Watch Wyatt Romines, Robert Striene, #7 (98) Jack Calvery

113 1 Ranked Wrestler 1 Out of State

IN Blake Boarman IN State Champion.  He is another wrestler that I have seen traveling in the off season to continue to get better.

He will have to beat #4 (105) Mason Wilson is a state qualifier will see if his off season training has him ready to take the top spot.

    121 5 Ranked Wrestlers

Well it doesn't get any closer to a state tournament bracket than this 1-4 and 8. If this doesn't help Ranger with the Rankings and Seeding the State Tournament nothing will

I have #4 Payne Carr as the top seed here with # 1 Jake Insko the 2nd seed both have similar resumes so I went with the one I thought comes out on top super close finals match here could be the best finals match of the day.

#3 Tristan Brooks get the 3 seed after his loss to Carr at Taylor County with #3 Jaydon Streine and #8 Jackson Grimsley  right there in the mix.  This will be a great bracket to watch and will be on one of the center mats.

     Others to Watch Jakerion Merritt

130 2 Ranked Wrestlers 1 Out of State

This isn't the deepest weight class but with 28 wrestlers you better stay focused

I have #4 Brandon Gibson winning this bracket but #6 Dillon Whitaker right there with him

Others to Watch IN Scott Fitts and Shane Gibbs will be there at the end

    140 0 Ranked Wrestlers

This is Definitely the most wide open bracket with no ranked wrestlers and I have nothing on the out of state so I guess it is whoever wants it the most.

152  1 Ranked Wrestler 1 Out of State

#7 Zach Martin should win this but IN John Mcgrew should have an opportunity to take championship to IN

    168 2 Ranked Wrestlers

#1 Niko Bussell should have #8 Matthew Louden I see this in Bussell favor 9-3

    190  4 Ranked Wrestlers

Not often do the 190's have more than 4 or 5 wrestlers this bracket features 14 with 4 of them being ranked

#2 Logan Deasel is the favorite here seems like he has been around forever. McCracken has done a great job with numbers and have 4 in this weight class to give Deasel the partners that most upper weights don't have which will give him the edge.

#3 Colby Stratman is having a great season and continues to improve he will be a tough out come state we will see if he can get one step closer.

#6 Colton Maines and #9 Maquioa aren't far behind and look to challenge for the top spot of the 190's

    Others to Watch Aaron Crushenberry

    240 2 Ranked Wrestlers

    # 5 Cameron Owens looks to get #6 Curtis Dailey but they will have to get past 6 others before we get to see this match up.

    Teams Race

    1. Walton Verona- looks to have most of their team here and are all tough

2 River City- should be right there in the hunt I have Union just a few points behind

3 Union County- may fall short with missing some big scores at a 3 Varsity meet and 2 others out.

4 Mater Dei - They seem to be a little down in years past but always seem to be there in the team standings
