  1. I don't think regional placing a could be used die the state tournament seeding because the kids, due to the 10% rule, may not even be in the same bracket as the kids they wrestled at region.
  2. I hope this doesn't cause kids from the same clubs to be wrestling each other more often. That would be my main concern.
  3. I coach a youth team in Eastern Ky and am hoping to make a Kentucky tournament before the state tournament arrives. I am havin a hard time finding any listings. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

    Looking for youth tournaments

I am an assistant in Martin Co. (Sheldon Clark) we usually travel into Northern West Virginia for tournaments. We would like to start traveling into Central Kentucky a little more often. Is Gene Wolf a member on here?

    State Observations

I would definitely sell/update brackets for the high school tournament as a fund raiser for our club. How does one go about getting permission to do such a thing??

    region strength

Here is a question. Why is region 8 having sucha hard time competing!?!? I live in this region and this was not the case when I was in high school. Is it coaching?? Is it the number of kids competing in wrestling in other parts if the state? Is it the strength of te feeder programs? The offseason schedule?? I understand many may not want to answer this question. But if we are to move forward as a state we need to promote the sport statewide.

    Post Season

I gotta ask. What is the big deal with the beach balls?? I mean there beach balls, they aren't going to hurt anyone. I will gladly abide and not participate in the celebration but I just am not clear why it's such a big deal. I doubt anyone has ever in the history of beach balls been injured by one or by confetti string.

    Region 4 Championships

Again, the JC parents should have never been allowed to stand matside. The kid wasn't a great sport but did he deserve an ejection? Not in my opinion. I was here it didn't see him "Ric Flair." I seen other kids do a little celebrating after some of their matches and there was never a word mentioned. What this kid did I finally get ejected was wave at the JC fans/parents who were matside, where they were not suppose to be.
  12. When you see a bigger kid messing with your kid and all you do is grin!!

KY State Duals at Campbell County

I don't see what all the crying is about. If you showed up at the event with a 95lb 8 year old you knew there was a chance he would wrestle a 12 year old 95lb kid. Quit your crying!! I wish I would have known about this event. I would have made a attempt to bring my kids. I think this is a great way to move te sport forward and find some quality matches.i hope to see youth duals catch on in the state!!

I'll take Fausz!! Glad to hear UC had a great tournament and represented the bluegrass state well.

    Region 4 Championships

I have decided to volunteer my time to coaching. I have no desire to be a referee. I do, however, expect the referees, who get a paycheck for their service, to make the right calls. I did not see the HWY finals so I cannot comment. But I did see the match with the kid from BC. I do not think the kid handled himself well but I also do not think the referee, or the coaches from JC, should have allowed the parents to heckle the young man. That's just my opinion. No way I would have allowed one of my wrestlers to behave in such a manner.

    Hammer and Anvil

My apologies all mighty Tarzan!! Lmao. That was the easiest trap ever!! Reread the posts. I never referred to the 2012 team as runner ups!! I just asked if someone called a state runner up team the best ever in state history!!! Your overly defensive bro. All you had to say was, no!! Lmao. You are too easy!! Btw, your kids are great wrestlers. There is really no need for you to get on here and make a rear end out of your self. All the patronizing and belittling you do is completely unnecessary. ATM is probably te beat wrestler this state has ever seen but all the chest pumping you are doing makes you SEEM very classless. I could be wrong but it certainly seems that way.

    Hammer and Anvil

That's great!! There were some very good wrestlers on that 2012 team. But all the individual awards in the world won't make a state runner up team better than any other team in te state EVER. So, no, someone with 12 post didn't just post something stupid. They ask a legit question and got a assanine answer!! Lol What was the national ranking for that team?? What was the national ranking for that team??

I'm sorry did someone just call a state runner up team the greatest team in Ky history??

    Region 4 Championships

First off, I thought Johnson Central done a wonderful job hosting this tournament. Also, I feel like they made the right decision to not cancel/postpone the tournament. The officiating, however, was abysmal. I know the referees have a very strenuous job. I know there are 1,000 things going on during a match. But they made bad calls ALL day. I don't think they showed favoritism toward one school but I just feel they were very inconsistent in their calls. They definitely DID run the kids off he mat during the face offs. We were there for over 12 hours but acted like they couldn't wait for the wrestlers to face off and let the competitors parents get a picture. Give them 5 seconds, they have worked very hard to make it to the finals!!

    Ohio Tournament of Champions

Josh Humphreys from St. Albans,WV is the best youth wrestler I have ever seen. Kid is an absolute beast. Never sen him wrestle an entire match. Kid just runs through people!! He won the 84lb schoolboy here, btw.

Time to change the youth format

Again, by setting weight classes you are attempting to fix a problem we do not have. Participation in youth wrestling in this state is very high. Competition level raises with the number of kids involved. Not sure why everyone is so set on having set weight classes. I have yet to hear how it raises the competition level. Because the brackets are bigger?? All that does is cut down on the amount of kids winning/ placing at state and takes away a very good motivational tool. I have neve heard. Kid win state and then go home unsatisfied because th competition level was subpar. Kids don't care. Egomaniac parents may care, but this sport is not about the parents... It's about the kids!!

    KY TOC

    Woohoo!!
  24. Gene, I love ya, you know that, but we disagree. I care very little about having a TRUE state YOUTH champion. If my son, Chase, never wins a youth tournament and wins the high school state title, I am totally cool with that. That we have kids who win state titles in Ky and can't place in the WV tournaments (and that happens a lot) does not matter to me at all. They are kids and who really cares. Because a kid is really good at youth does that automatically mean he is going to be a great high school wrestler? I don't have the numbers but I doubt it. I believe we raise the competition level higher by getting more kids out wrestling. We have a lot of good athletes in Kentucky, and particularly eastern Kentucky, that we cannot get to the wrestling mat because they are hung up on basketball. We get more kids out, we raise our competition level. I believe one way to get more kids out is to have a lot of kids placing in what is perceived by these kids and these communities as big tournaments. These kids get their picture in the local papers and all of a sudden a couple of his buddies, who may be better athletes, decide they want their picture in the paper with a medal around their neck. Makes all the sense in the world to me. I just don't believe bigger brackets equals better competition.
  25. I am sorry. I don't want to sound like a butthole here. I am a rookie on these forums. But what exactly is wrong with the way it is done now? Are we just trying to make the state tournament tougher? Do we have a huge problem with kids wrestling out of weight classes? Not sure what problem we are trying to address by running 16 man brackets. I don't think any of these kids care if they won state by winning a 8 man bracket, a 16 man bracket, or a 64 man bracket. I think it is pretty cool to have so many state champs and so many state place winners. I think it really encourages the kids to continue wrestling if the go to state and place. Then coaches and parents can really make big deal about a kid doing so good at the state tournament. Again, the kids don't care they were in a 8 man bracket. Anyway, would like to get a clearer idea of what EXACTLY is the problem we are trying to solve by moving away from the way it is done now. The way we are doing it now, at least in my mind, really promotes youth wrestling in this state.
