    Team Kentucky National Duals Updates

Ranger- I would have to actually speak to you in person about that comment. No way I can put my words into a document format. It would be up there with a rant from Mpire. On to the actually team- I have some questions about some NKY kids. I spoke briefly with coach Cooper and Jones at Holmes today but how did kids like Wells, Roth, Yenter, and Cornett do? I see that your son went 4-3! Congrat's to that. Also, who is Tylan Tucker?????? This kid burst on to the scene this year battling Yenter to a 1 point finals match, then goes to Danville and rocks a 6-1 record! Impressive young man! In my past experiences I've never seen a KY kid under 95 pounds ever win more than 4 matches so for him to go 6-1 I want to know where and who he works out with so when I have a little one I can send them there. Awesome job young man!

    Team ky middle school

Thanks for the intelligent response Ranger. I'm wanted to make sure that you and the WV coaches helping out know that was not a dig at all. I for one, appreciate all that you do for the Middle School organization, and I've publically said that on here more than once. I also understand the time crunch here as well, I can only imagine calling all the parents and organizing the event on top of everything else you have going on in your personal and professional life. I guess my issue comes to play with communication to the masses and not just a select few from a few schools who help out. It’s kind of like the rich getting richer and poor getting poorer because at the end of the day you always have these kids in your back pocket. On top of that your personal relationships with parents and the political game it plays always have an effect. Ranger, I would never blame you for anything, because I understand your intentions on the matter. I guess I'm personally still a little salty by the whole team KY thing. I won’t get into any specific details on the forum but I have tried on several occasions to volunteer my time when I had several kids on the team and was told, "...not wanted and not needed". I have also made suggestions for kids to participate and was told very sternly that, "...only middle school champs and top 4 placers can go". Well I understand that and I had a kid place 5th at state and all I wanted him to do was practice and be given a chance. He wasn't and instead Team KY needed a wrestler to fill in about two weeks before the event and did my kid get the call? Did I get a call? No River City went ahead and added one of their own who wasn't even a state placer, and didn't win a match at state! That kind of just set me off, when I asked why we didn't get a call my response was, "...it was a coach’s decision". Yeah no shit it was a coach’s decision, I'm not an idiot. All of us coaches build bonds with these young men and want to be by their side in battle, and as we all know, once you've been in the chair for a kid for many years it kills you to sit in the stands and let other coaches coach them. I lose every time one of my kids lose, I take it to heart just as they would. I would rather do that in their corner than in the stands. I'm ranting I know, but its always easier when you’re on the outside looking in than it is the other way around. My time with middle school is probably done for the time being anyways as I have a little one on the way. So all my points are pretty irrelevant, I just noticed something and wanted to know what changed from three years ago to now.

    Team ky middle school

Can I respectfully ask a question? And I say respectfully because I really enjoyed talking to this kids father at High School Regions for sometime, so I mean no disrespect, this is just geared to Jason, and John, or anyone who has any insight. How does a kid who finished second in his district, and went 1-2 at Region represent KY at nationals? I know it must be a WV thing since their coaches are part of the staff- but how is that right for the kids who even qualified to state and maybe even placed do not get to represent their state? And what about the kid who pinned him in 30 sec. at districts then goes on to win the Regions not even get a call or reach out to his coach to see if he would come to practice? If were going to just start filling a second team then lets call them Kentucky Stallions or something, not Team Kentucky Red. I know this isnt the first time this has happened before. It is just baffling.
  9. I just want to see some of the brackets! I'm kinda excited about this tournament. I wont be able to attend but I love checking out the results.

MLee could you please post the team scores from youth and maybe even the brackets too. I'm sure I don't speak for myself only but I would like to look at them. Thank you
  11. Will we be able to follow the tournament on track wrestling?

    Team ky middle school

Every year I went out there Kentucky got stuck with Indiana Gold. One year Indian Gold won every single match against us and we had, Blackwell, Fausz, Shirkey, Brock, Logan W. , Lane Jones, J. Carr, J Lampe, etc... Thankfully Kevin Cooper decieded enough was enough and Tech falled giving team Kentucky its only win lol That is one outstanding team. I know its hard to project esepcially since you have an invested interest in a lot of kids there, but how many you think you will AA? Specifically in the lower weights? My guess is you should have between 4-5 so I say Kearns, Sheffer, Cornett, and Androni.

    Team ky middle school

Coltyn will definently anchor down ur upper weights. He has been attending these kind of tournaments all year and only has one loss. It will be interesting to see if more than two kids can all American from 102 down. I've gone out to Danville four times and only once has there been two from 102 down that AA and that was Brock and Logan wedding. The middle weights have always done well out there. I hope this team can make it to the Gold round, it just all depends on if they got Indiana Gold, IKWF Gold, Team Jordan, or All Ohio in their pool. And I've seen Team Jordan lose out there to Indiana Gold and Micha Jordan get crushed by Tommy Cash in their match. I wish this was on ihigh or something. Even still I might try and make it out. I got family about two hours west.

I'm wondering how my Cougars did!
  18. What some are proposing we do is try and fast-forward 10 years and have 32 or 16 man brackets for state tournaments with weigh ins the day off. These parents and coaches are probably the same ones who keeps stats on their 3rd grade wrestler. I completely disagree with this notion. As far as weigh-ins and weight classes go, making any kids not in high school cut weight is a joke in my opinion. These are key developemental years for the kids not years for them to develope unhealthy means and measures to cut weight and try and get an "edge". However it is invevitable and over baring parents will always find ways to cheat the system or have their children cut weight. My opinion would be to develope set weight classes based off the past 3 years results. That way weight classes would be set long before we get to state and it will allow kids to fit in a more natural weight class, and as far as weigh ins go make them weigh in on Monday night before state. As I mature as an adult and have a family of my own I will get my children into this great sport. As it stands now I would have no hesitation getting them involved with our youth organization. I know in the short future I will probably be coaching a youth team somewhere in this state and with discussions like we are having we are heading in the right direction. Maybe some day in the future I will be in a position like MLee I got one more thing to add. Bluesdad, I know WV has very strong high school wrestling but their youth and middle school teams are not out of this world good or even that much better than KY teams. I know that your boy spends a lot of time over there, so maybe my observation is a little off but I will go on ahead with it. Over my time as a coach, I have competed against them (WV kids) in numerous tournaments and had very strong success. Several years ago Derek Wiley went to a national tournament out there in WV and finished second only losing to a kid from PA. In the champion quarters and semi's he had elementary state champs and Derek teched one and majored another. Darian Wolnitzek went undefeated out there that same year. Kids like Andy Wilson, Jacob Warwick, Trevor Thompson, Demarcus and Jermain Moore, and all the Grandstaff boys have dominated all the WV kids they competed against at TOC, Autism, and open tournaments. Ohio on the other hand is a different story all together. Sorry if I'm a little off based with my comments, I am trying to get caught up with everything going on with the High school forum. Oh and I'm watching the UC/UL game on ESPN.

Pinandwin is correct. Everyone at Ryle knew he had been held back before he got there. Then we all know he was held back again when he went to apple valley

    Stalling in youth wrestling

Are we still talking about stalling at a youth level? I know you want refs to call matches like they do in college or high school but 95% of the kids struggle like MLee says with the very basics. Wanting youth refs to call stalling is like trying to get refs to call holding in pee-wee football like the pros. It's unrealistic and won't happen anytime soon. If your child loses a youth match because of stalling then you have other problems on your hands other than refs.

Who are the legit contenders for the next 3-4 years?

I will harp on a little more about NKY over the next few years- I'm speaking only about Freshman and younger CC- Sparh, Krebs, Wells, Yenter, and Moore come to mind. Will be interesting to see how Yenter, Krebs, Wells, and Moore all battle it out for two spots next year along with Maggard down there. Ryle- L. Erdman, J. Mieman, Osbourn- Horton is too young to be mentioned here I think. I'm completely blanking on a name now but the young man who lost to Smith at districts will be a name we talk about over the next three years. Conner- Wiley, Kearns, Badida - Kearns is an 8th grade with tons of potential. Walton- Smith, Roth, Huber, Peace- Roth will be a career 106 pounder so he will make noise by the time he is Soph. Dixie- Cornett- Stude SK- Mueller, C. Cooper- Both Freshman with a very good skill set. Boone- ?? Cooper- Bailey

    Lawson Brothers

Top 3 in nation doesn't beat Gus Adams 1-0 and Keegan Duncan by a point. Sorry he also didn't place at Flo or Super 32 this year not sure which one he attended. Your a little off base. I'm not saying he isn't good because he is but he is not a wrestling god. Come back down to earth thirdround, and was he better than that kid? If my memory serves me right both kids were undefeated that year heading into the state finals if so how would Boston be better? Just asking
  25. Cougar05

    Lawson Brothers

My guess is that the Lawson's will go back to Ohio next year so the older one could wrestle varsity for Graham. This is purely speculation but given how good that seventh grade class is at Graham there is no way the Lawson's wont be up there within two years when both are in high school. They might stay down here one more year just so they can wrestle on the same team and travel together. I love how you throw in the broken hand- everyone always has some kind of excuse or explaination for a loss.
