I forgot one. Dunyasha "Tubbo" Yetts did it. Picture a wicked fast 5'8" 185 lb rb and a extremely string and ripped 150 lb wrestler. He played/wrestled at Purdue in the early 1990s before transferring to tOSU and finishing 3rd at the NCAAs in 1995. He subsequently became a sports agent and swindled Antoine Winfield and some others out of millions. He did time and returned to Steubenville and was coaching wrestling as a felon. He violated parole and is now back in prison. The moral of the story is to stick to one sport and study!

If anyone could have done DI football and wrestling it was Luke Fickell. he didn't do it. The Stephen Neal approach is more plausible.

    KY vs The world

Mpire writes a lot of stuff, but one thing he's 100% accurate on is how competition makes you better. Yenter has a nice pedigree already. How much better would he be if he wrestled at Medina, Top Gun, Brecksville etc? How impressive is Union county? I can see how the northern Ky schools are doing well. Trinity/X are blessed with talent pools and resources too. Larue and Union doing what they do without any nearby schools to push them is very noteworthy. I'm a wrestling nut. I grew up in NE Ohio and have lived in South Carolina, Virginia, Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. Most of the time programs rise or fall to the competition around them. Ky schools arent ready for St Edward/Perry etc. but it's remarkable we're producing Big Ten caliber kids, even though it's just a handful.

    KY vs The world

How many schools with wrestling in Ohio? Its somewhere near 500-600. How many in Kentucky? Isn't it 92? That's the difference right there. Let's catch up to Tenn, or Indiana first and worry about the Buckeye state then.
  7. ....and saved his parents a good bit of money too.
  8. Just woke up and am headed to Illinois for 4 days of Air Guard duty. I sure hope Bryant, John and Jillian appreciate the GI Bill benefits one day.

  9. I just tried a V8 for the first time in 18 years. It will be the year 2030 before I try it again.

Ok Empire, let's not include Eds, Moe, CVCA, and Graham. Let's just talk about regular DII teams in Ohio who are fanatical about wrestling; Claymont, Clyde, Steubenville, Oak Harbor etc. It's just a different level of intensity. CC is not at that level....yet. Most Ky champs could place Div I in Ohio for sure, if not win it. But team wise? Not even close.

Not to mention St Ed, Graham, Massilon Perry and the mighty 'Stangs from Uhrichsville Claymont.

Paul, You are a great wrestler and should be proud. But Deeter is ranked 5th in division III. He's nowhere near the top 10 in his weight class in Ohio overall. CC and northern Ky and a few other programs are making great advances. Indeed, some individuals can more than hold their own anywhere with anyone. But there aren't any teams in Kentucky (yet) anywhere near being able to stay with the top Ohio teams.

Master Open Mats & Clubs Listing

Tonight at Trinity there were probably 25-30 equally spread from 3rd grade to high school. (Maybe a few 5 year olds too).
  14. If you've sent to or are expecting an overnight package from San Antonio--you're welcome!

    Where are They Now?

Can't go wrong with either place! Best of luck to him. What a great example for Kentucky wrestlers.

    Middle School State Results

It was the late 80's/early 90s for me. St Joe, Ignatius, Eds, Walsh, Solon and the infamous Mentor Meatgrinder. Dare I say there were excellent wrestlers who couldn't make it out of the Mentor district to qualify for state who would have been Div III state champs! ...not to mention SW District champs as well as the Cincy area was woeful.

    Youth State Results

#6 was the Shamrock Wrestling Club btw. I'd love to know what the total number of kids was. It seemed quite a bit larger than last year, especially with the youngest age group. It could have just been the larger venue though, which was a nice upgrade too. The face off is debatable. I think it adds a lot more time but then again the kids do love it. I saw some great wrestling and it looks to me the sport is obviously growing. 120 points for Ryle? That's 30 champs or substantially more kids since all weren't first. Congrats to all and lets keep making it bigger and better.

    Safety vs.Competitiveness

Matside weighins will fix everything. If a kid is on the brink of being over then maybe he should move up for the next tournament? If he's cutting too much weight, it'll be obvious on the mat. Isn't the important thing at this age developing strong technique and a love of the sport?
  25. John took 2d today at the Kentucky Youth Wrestling State Championships. Another tough loss to his nemesis in the finals! He was 16-6 this season.
