  1. That's why I asked the question was to get the answers. I was told that most of his champions followed him from Sheldon Clark when he went to Johnson and since I don't personally know the man or the situation the best way to get answers is to ask questions. But like I said I don't care either way because I think parents should do what they feel is best for their kids and I will always advocate that. I hope I didn't ruffle your feathers as I was in no way putting down your coach or school. On the same note I wanted to express my opinion that becominmg successful because of transferres is not the same as building a program (again I'm not saying that's the case at johnson its just a wholistic opinion).

  2. in the 170's Marlon Toriente from Seneca is very good .. His match with Parriman McCreary Central will be a good one

I haven't seen Torriente wrestle this year but I was at the WCI and seen Parriman and he looked pretty good halfway through the season and according to trackwrestling he seems to improve everyy week. His first encounter with Mink was he won 5-1 and his second encounter later at the Region 8 tournament he won in domminating fashion with a 15-2 major and according to track Mink beat Torriente 8-4. Boykin pinned Torriente and parriman beat Boykin 12-7. I also have kept an eye on this weight class for personal reasons and I also think it will be a fun class to watch and I would have to say that there could be many upsets and I'm not saying this will be or won't be one of them because Ive not seen Torriente wrestle but looking at common opponets I would have to say that if Parriman is ready to wrestle then there will be no upset in this match-up. I think a couple of first round match-ups to watch will be Jones/Fultz and Wilbanks/Stepp. Even though Fultz got pinned by Jones around the halfway point of the season Fultz has wrestled very well of late and seems to be peeking. He lost two very close matches with Meiman and Wilbanks two top kids at 170. If Fultz is at the top of his game with nothing to lose and Jones has a few first match gitters this could very well equal an upset. Wilbanks is very tough but Stepp is a sleeper and is a very good wrestler that if over looked at all by Wilbanks, Stepp could very easily pull off the upset. I don't even want to touch on the possibilities of second round upsets. I will say that the second round probable match up of Canter/Jones will be the second round match-up to watch. As always these are just my opinion which makes them 1 in a million. Good luck to all wrestlers at the Horse Park!

  3. I agree Johnson seems to have a strong program that has domminated Region 8 recently. They have had 5 state champions since 2005 that is true. My question is how many of those 5 were originally from Jonson Central and how many were not. If you are bringing kids into the program then you are not building the program from the ground up or building it from nothing. I'm not bashing the fact that kids moved into Johnson because I think parents have the right to take their kids to whatever school they want for whatever reason they want after all it is their kids. The people who complain about such things either don't have kids or have their kids at the school they prefer. Anyway, I just wanted to put things into perspective on JC 5 state champs!

  4. Here is an updated version of Region 8 predictions. Good luck everyone.

I'm no Ranger but this is my honest opinion so lets here what everyone else thinks. This should be a good tournament!

  5. Well, I have been keeping up with this post and have found it very interesting to say the least. I have never met Mpire but hope to change that at this years state tournament. (Mpire clean out your mailbox, LoL!) I have talked with his boys and they are great young men which tells me their parents did something right in their upbringing. I wish I could see todays match-up because everyone loves a hard faught wrestling match but I don't think its fair to either wrestler to predict a winner or loser because both of them are winners in my book no matter what happens tonight. I watched the video of the match against the Graham kid at least a hundred times and what I saw was this: the Graham kid got the takedown for sure and it was after the ref ruled them out of bounds for sure so the the proper call was "wrestlers out of bounds no takedown"! No one can honestly say that the Graham kid would have succedded in getting the takedown if the ref wouldn't have first called them out of bounds so therefore it was a bogus call that definitely changed the outcome of the match from that point on. Anyone who says any different has a bias in the situation. Mpire I admire you for standing up for your kids, I have kids myself and I would fight to the death for them if I felt they were being done wrong by anyone so I have no problem what-so-ever with your position on here. Anyway that's just one opinion from a wrestling dad who has no connections with anyone on this thread, I am a true outsider! Good luck to both young men tonight you both are great wrestlers and great young men and you both should be proud of your accomplishments I know all of KY is!

  6. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect the fact that yours is different than mine. Howevery I have been involved in athletics for more years than I can care to say and I have seen things that are effective as well as not effective in helping a particular sport grow, whether at a school level; or a state level it's always the same................participation. The more kids that are involved with a sport at any level the more the sport grows and the more the sport grows the stiffer the competition gets. I can tell you that I have been going to the wrestling state tournament in KY now for about 15 years and I agree that the 1st round match-ups are not the greatest to watch but I know for sure they are more competitive now than they were 5 years ago and in 5 years I will guarantee that they will be more cometitive than they are now. I can remember a couple years ago that the finals went very fast with a lot of 1st period pins thats why I agree with seeding the state tournament. Most of semi-finals were super exciting and should have been the finals if the tournament were seeded. You can't grow anything without change and when you change it takes time for to get the results you want. I think eventually the 1st round of the state tournament will be very competive and I also think eventually KY goes to districts, regions and states and maybe even sectional when I', no longer around. But it takes change to provide growth and it will take a lot of work but it won't take near as long if everyone is on the same page. Insanity = doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Wrestling in KY has steadily improved year after year and that is because there has been effective change in how we run the elem, middle and high scholl wrestling programs. This is just all honest opinion that is backed up by experience.

  7. Everyone says they want the sport to grow but then turn around and say to diminish it by reducing the number of participants in the state tournament. That's just crazy. Kids only wrestle because they think they may have a chance to go to state. Take that away and kids will find something else to do because this sport is to hard not to have the hope of going to the state tournament. It would kill most new teams and most small teams. Right now our sport grows every year by a team or two but if we went backwards-back to a 16 man bracket state tournament we would start dropping schools. Stop living in the past and start looking towards the future. The state tournament has a great venue right now, yes its a little different than Frankfort but it was a necessary change. Good luck to all teams and wrestlers this year!

  8. He may be able to beat Criswell if he makes no mistakes but Criswell is a domminant wrestler but no way he beats Siler IMHO because Siler is also a beast. However, I have heard rumors of Siler moving to 113!

  9. We are getting close to Region tournament time so here are some predictions. I hope everyone will give their opinions as these are mine and not by any means are they a professional one. LoL!

  10. Lane looks good , I wouldn't go picking any favs at 160 other than Steph or Coop .

Like to see Canter and French wrestle though .

And no I wouldn't like to see either Stephen or Kevin lose a state title their Sr Yr neither would Kevin's dad. We think they can both win at either weight . And probably a couple more :)

I wasn't meaning that anyone would want to see either one of them lose because they are both phenomenal wrestlers. I think I was just thinking about how that would be a historical state finals match for KY. I agree that either one of them would be the favorite at either weight and they arte both good enough wrestlers to wrestle at whatever weight they choose. I haven't watched French much but have watched Canter since he was a little boy and he work very hard. I think there is going to be some great match-ups at the state tournament this year.

  11. The meyers thing is kind of crazy but deep down I really believe the kid is a great kid who will do what's best for his school team and that's stay at 160 and battle French. Cooper will stay at 152 again jmho. The 170's are deep. I watched the 11th ranked kid pin in about 45 seconds the kid who was just a few months ago ranked in Rangers rankings number 1 at 182 and it wasn't just a catch he had a near fall and then they stood up and he was taken down again and pinned. I watched Macintosh/Barrett match and macintosh was winning 5 or 6-1 when he got got pinned but he's a freshman and he'll learn from those things.

Parriman is very good. I was impressed with him beating Boykin more than the Barrett match. Mink is good but he's been beaten a few times this year by kids in the top 15 but his huge upset of Bell last year in the early rounds at state still carries a lot of weight. I like yourself hope there pretty evenly divided at the horse park but with so many super great wrestlers I just feel it will be the division to watch. Write it down and circle it lol there will be a couple of kids who are there regions 4 seeds beat a couple of the #1 seeds from there prospective regions. I agree Canter and Lane Jones are the predicted finalist but nothing would shock me in this division. Lane just barely beat Meiman 3-2 just 2 weeks ago and I have Meiman like 10th or even lower. It will be fun to watch !

I agree it is definitely going to be a fun weight class to watch!

  12. I doubt meyers will go to 152 jmho because of cooper. It would be best for both teams if they stayed the same class where there at. I don't believe Canter will drop either again jmho... Macintosh dominated the entire match vs Barrett just got caught towards the end. Parriman is tough and things may change a little but make no mistake any on the top 14 can pull upsets big upsets.

I don't know but it seems that Stephen's dad wants him to go 152 and seems to look forward to him wrestling Cooper in the finals at the state tournament. Now that is just what I take from reading Mpire's statements! I guess we won't really know until regions! As for Parriman I heard he dominated the match against Barrett but gave up 5 points late to a headlock and lost by one at the very end. I was also told he should have gotten at least 2 backs from a cradle in the 3rd but IDK I wasn't there maybe you can fill me in if you were there. Everyone is telling me the Parriman kid from McCreary was the best 170 there and should have won the tournament. What was the score when Barrett stuck McIntosh? 170 is my favorite weight class as I really like Lane Jones and Caleb Canter who should be the two favorites. I also think the Mink kid from Wayne Co is very tough and could beat either Jones or Canter on a given day and then I see where Parriman beat him so who knows and that's what makes this a fun wait class! All I can say is flip a coin as I am sure there are 10 or more contenders as well. I just hope one side of the bracket of the state tournament isn't stacked with all the to kids and the other side just has 1 kid who gets a free pass to the finals which seems to happen a lot!

  13. I'm no Ranger by any means .. He does so much for this sport. Here's an updated rankings list with alot of changes in weight classes etc... Tune in next week as I'm sure it will change ! I only follow 170 really close. Enjoy and input is great.

1 Lar Co Caleb Canter 12

    2 Walt Lane Jones 12

3 Way Co Casey Mink 11

    4 St X Brandon Pledger 12

    5. Southern Sean Barret

6 Old Co Alex McIntosh 9

    7. Mc Cen DJ Parriman 12

    8. Campbell Co Dustin Turner 11

    9. Eastern Brennon Boykin 12

10 Johnny Meiman Ryle 9 (I still believe will go to 160)

    11. Braden Jones Boone County

    12 Wood Co Mason Gilbert

    13 Meade Jonah Shacklet 11

14 Ft Camp Ki Ryder 11

15 Call Co Tyler Wilson 11

16 Laf Jackson Avant 11 (out ?) Sam Quigney

    17 Male Austin Guerrero 11

18 Un Co Kane Morris 10

    19 Con Jacob Warwick 10

    20 SK Derek Hicks 11

21 Mon Co Zach Roland 11

    22 Man Zach Harris 10

23 Bull Cen Mike Saunders 11

24 Cald Co Clay Revelett 11

    25 . Trinity Trevor Fultz 12

I was looking at the WCI results and seen where McIntosh got pinned by Barret and the Parriman kid only lost by 1 point so how would you give McIntosh a higher ranking. Also according to trackwrestling the parriman kid beat Mink 5-1. Just some things to consider. Also, it looks like Myers is gonna go 152 and if he does will Canter drop to 160, i think its a good possibility. 170 is turning out to be an interesting weight class and Lane Jones is acting like it belongs to him as he is wrestling at the top of his game right now. I think anyone in the top 10 can take this weight class!

  14. Sheldon Clark use to be a powerhouse are they likely to climb in the picture this year. Also, Whitley Co and McCreary Co are pretty tough every once in a while what do they look like this year? Perry Co has improved over the last couple of years will they get even better this year? Does anyone have a chance to knock Johnson Co off the top of the mountain this year. A lot of questions for region * and I would also like to here from some people about who they think will be the top 4 in each weight class and also how region 8 stacks up against other regions!

  15. I haven't heard anything about region 8 yet this year. This is traditionally a strong region but seems to be slipping a little over the last couple of years. Who is the up and coming new kids and who is the top 4 in each weight class. Does anyone have any opinions on Region 8?
