Wayne Co 39 - Johnson Central 29. Sounds like this was a very good match up between the top two teams in region 8. Can anyone tell us who won each individual weight class?

Can you give us the individual weight class results? Who beat who in the finals between Wayne and Johnson!

Why is Deaton not wrestling?

So, how are all the teams from Region 8 doing so far this year? Has there been any surprises dealing with match ups or what weight classes the wrestlers will be in?

The word I got from Whitley Co is one Vanover kid moved and the other one stayed. Not sure which one moved or which one stayed but I do know one of them played football so someone could probably look at the football roster and see which one is listed.

McCreary Central is going to this tournament this year as well!

Well I have enjoyed reading these posts and I will have to say that I don't see anything wrong with bragging on your kids. My mom use to brag on me all the time to anyone who would listen. I wish she was still here to brag on me, it's what makes parent and child relationships speacial. My hat is off to you sir and I welcome the opportunity to see your boys wrestle and if either of them wrestle one of my kids I will simply tell them that they put their singlet on one leg at a time too and that no one is unbeatable then I will send them onto the mat to give 100%! The lowest weight class you can wrestle is the lowest certified weight of the current years wrestling season. But, you can wrestle up to any weight class you want.

I don't think this is true. I have seen middle school wrestlers wrestle for a high school on the varsity level and then move to a different school their 9th grade year and be eligible. I was told wrestling for a high school their 7th and/or 8th grade year does not constitue a declaration of high school status for that school which allows them to move schools their 9th grade year with no loss of eligibity. I know this has actually happened and the kid actually still lives in the county where he initially wrestled at the high school level as an 8th grader and it was declared legal by KHSAA case law because the middle school years wrestling for the initial high school meant nothing because he was in middle school.

Who are they and what exactly is it you are wanting to be considered for? Just a little curious but if you don't feel it is appropriate to answer that is fine. I am really not trying to be nosey just curious. Anyway good luck with it!

True Somerset does not have a wrestling program but Pulaski Co. is trying to start one. Wayne Co is a very good program that has some tradition but don't dismiss Whitley Co and McCreary Co. Whitley co is very close to Cumberland University which has a very good NAIA wrestling program and could be used as a great resource for wrestling workouts and McCreary Co just got a new coach and they have started an off-season wrestling club that will be running year round. Both of those schools as well as Wayne Co would be excellent choices. My advice is to check out all three schools for academic reasons mainly (because you can't move to a school for athletic reasons in KY) and then talk to the wrestling coaches at all three schools and then decide where you want your son to go based on the information you get from your inquiries. In other words do some research because this is an important decision and you don't want to get it wrong. Sometimes it is not all about the success of the program as much as it is about the character of the program. Do your research.
