I appreciate you Ranger. I appreciate the amount of time it takes to put together accurate information compiled from the entire state. With that being said; the rankings do need to come out every two to three weeks. I log on this site everyday in anticipation of a new set of rankings, and I'm let down a little bit everyday. Not a big deal, but I do want that information. Instead of complaining about it I'd like to offer a hand. I'd be happy to help put the rankings together. I study the rankings anyway and I use track wrestling to see results as well. Tournament directors have to make an effort to post the results either on track or in the results section of this site. It does take forever to put them together because I'v already started doing it for myself, but I am willing to help. Let me know.
trithis, this is what i mean. sigep567 would want to do this as would others, but they feel like they are stepping on rangers toes so they dont. they ask for permission out of respect.
sige, please post what you have please as i believe the entire wrestling community would love to see them. thanks for your offer.

Floridafan ---come on really. Last time I checked Ranger isn't paid by anyone to post or do rankings. I can't imagine that running the KSWA and just finishing up the mState tourney or running his own team....state champs I might add , his family and work duties would have anything to do with not updating results. Or...could it be that he's tired of reading the crap that people give him for doing what everyone else can do themselves if they do choose to do so. Get over yourself. If you want rankings...do us all a favor and post them. This is a public site. Have fun!!
all i am saying is if you take on a job, then finish it. if you no longer have the time then pass the torch.

First of all, kudos to Ranger for taking on such a thankless job. My criticism wasn't aimed it him. His rankings were much appreciated, but I think it illustrates the problem. With so many resources throughout the state, why is one person in charge of ranking the entire state?
I shouldn't have made a generalization about the "wrestling community," and for that apologize. I've met plenty of good people in the wrestling community during my time at The Courier-Journal, people who were very understanding and patient with a wrestling novice. I can't thank them enough.
I know there are good stories to tell in the wrestling community and feel like I've told a decent share of them. Could I do more? Of course. At the same time, it becomes frustrating in trying to gather basic information throughout the season and getting no response. I can't tell you the number of times I've called or emailed a coach, simply to get info about an upcoming meet, and received no help.
I received one response on Twitter that rankings are of no use to the wrestling community. I doubt that's the case, but - if so - that's fine. I can tell you they are of great use to the media in giving the public a general idea of who's good, both teamwise and in each weight class. I've gone out of my way to publish these rankings whenever possible.
Sorry to post such a long response but wanted to let everyone know that I wasn't trying to attack the wrestling community. However, in just the six years I've had this job, the amount of communication and cooperation from coaches, officials, etc., has drastically decreased.
If you have any suggestions or comments on how we can improve this, feel free to email me any time at jfrakes@courier-journal.com
Good luck to all of you during the upcoming regional and state meets. See you in Lexington!

jason, i feel you have apologized for doing absolutely nothing wrong. in fact i thank you for calling out the coaches who dont help you. these are probably the same coaches who whine about not having enough kids on their team. ridiculous. we feel your pain as well, we can rarely get results of any of the meets across the state. i have a challenge for you, next year please come to us, the community and try and get your answers. i am sure we will all do our best to help.

Fact of the matter is if we dont do a good job promoting ourselves and producing rankings , wrestling will never be taken seriously by the media. Cant blame them, if we cant keep our own house in order why should they be made to come fix us up.
As far as rankings go, Ranger has been a huge disappointment. He put in many hours of hard work over the years and that is much appreciated, but to just walk away from doing the rankings consistently without an official "retire" notice, is rude. Ranger went out of his way to prove the old KHSAA rankings were illagitament and to compare his rankings to theirs in the hopes to prove how much better he was.He got his way and they quit doing them and even adopted using his rankings as official for the state meet. So i dont wanna hear anyone coming to his defense in saying he just did it "for the boys" as an unselfish act, wrong. He did it for his own ego as well. I fully understand he has better things to do, i get it, but at least announce your walking away so a new Ranger can step up.

So it appears that the all "A" classic is sponsored by Touchstone Energy. If wrestling was to be added to the list of sports and sponsored by Touchstone, then I see 1 really good reason for the schools to attend and that is scholarship money. Touchstone gave out 49 scholarships of no less than 1000 dollars to each recipient last year alone, and a total of 77,000. They currently have 8 sports/arts that they equally divide the scholarships amongst. Wrestling makes 9. So you would assume anywhere from 5-6 senior only wrestlers would get a minimum of 1000 dollars to apply to their college education. By my count, and i will include the current member school list below, there are 12 schools that currently have wrestling on the member list. Any school can apply to be a member school and must meet an obvious enrollment criteria that changes every year. I can say that if Walton Verona goes this route to start this tournament that schools may just change their schedules a bit. Because you can either take home a medal or a 1000 bucks. Might not take so long after all ranger.

HEY NOW!!! How did I get pulled into this conversation? "Don't put that evil on me Ricky Bobby." :-o :x
GOO JR. is a handsome young lad. Good thing he gets his looks from his mother. :-D 8-)
As for what is said on here. Ya all know where I stand on this. No holds bar. We are on here to have fun. If GOO Jr. can't handle what is being said about him on here, or any other Jr. Then he needs to stop reading the forum. I'm sure he had heard worse things from his friends, actually probably from me.
No swab testing for me. 8-)
sorry for the accusation GOO, but you have been known to "GOO in" when you should of "GOO'd out". that is how GOO jr's are made ya know!

"floridafan, as for reaching full potential, my son took first place. he also finished the season with an overall record of 36-4. his team took the school team championship (3rd overall) with 5 first year wrestlers."
Actually Campbell took 4th overall...but what's the difference.
pinandwin, did you mean to post that under "superdave" ? the fact i mentioned another posters name must have thrown you off ( i see why you are worried about your son, genetics and all). but it appears your son did just fine without getting alot of chatter on this forum, unlike his dad, that is if you are his real dad. you may consider a paternity test, GOO could be the father.

now, for starters, i'll admit i've only just recently found this website (3 months ago) but i've noticed a huge trend. none of you have a clue!!!!! what i feel the biggest surprise or shocker was @ 131. everyone had cox, or henning, or metts picked to win and neither of these boys even made it to the finals. schoerer and matthews had what i would say was the match of the day, a rematch of district 3 regional finals. matthews was down 6-4 with 40 sec. left in the 3rd period. matthews won 11-9. there was only 1 match that was closer. not bad for two boys (schoerer is a 2nd year, matthews is a 3rd year) who weren't even considered to be contenders. it seems to me that most of you are here to promote your district and your district only. district 3 had more first year wrestlers qualify for the state tournament than any other district (five of which were from campbell county). granted, none of them placed in the top 4, but none of them went 2 and out either. it really shows that absolutely no real thought is put into most of the posts on this web page. and the worst part of all is that our children get on here and read these posts and take them as fact. no wonder we have kids that never reach their full wrestling potential. they work hard everyday in practice, do well in competition, then come on this page and everyone is still talking about the same, overrated wrestlers every week. i don't post on here much, but i'll admit, i don't know much about the wrestlers in other districts. i only see them if they happen to compete at the same meets we do. so, i feel my OPINION is a bit jaded. just the same as a lot of the posts i read, jaded OPINIONS!!!!! so, next time you post, please remember that our kids read the posts on this page.
superdave, if your kids arent reaching there full potential at wrestling because someone posted that another kid was really good , then you have bigger problems than stupid posts. it is the parents job to help a kid reach there full potential and to teach them to believe in themselves no matter what others may say about them or there opponent. if your child gets on here and falls to pieces because everyone is talking about how good other kids are then you may need to seek some counseling for your child and yourself.

Floridafan.I hope your Myron president won't show the middle finger to his crowd.
I won't say anything else.
Glod bless you all!
Peace
2 things polo. my god tells me not to judge, but since you are obviously a christian i dont need to tell you that and secondly if myron did this i am sure he was just showing the IQ of those who judge.
-
During his high school career Myron proved that he is a very talented and strong wrestler in the mat, BUT outside the mat, his behavior DOES NOT reflect the best about him and his school. At the Jefferson Championship at Eastern HS, I saw Myron seriously disrespecting other wrestlers and parents while at the parking lot during the false alarm fire we had at that event.
Many other wrestlers from Trinity are friendly and respectful with their other wrestling peers from other teams; Fahy is just an example of that.
That attitude of Myron is responsible for most of the bad reaction he received at the State Championship.
I hope Myron have help to develop a true character. As the young man he is, he deserves to become the best of him, not the worse!
polo, myron will be fine. i have been around him a few times over the years. yes he likes to have fun, but i have never seen him get out of line. he is a good kid and to suggest anything otherwise and to post a comment on his character based upon a one time event during a fire alarm or expression of joy, is riduculously stupid. lets look at this from the correct perspective before judging this kid, he had pressure on him to win from freinds, family, school , and self. going into the week before this match, his matchup with hall was the only gaurenteed head to head with ryle in the finals. you dont think he didnt know that was a huge team points swing for his school to take a title out of the hands of ryle. let alone the massive pressure from his previous matchup with hall. oh yeah, did i mention he was a senior. this kid had more pressure on his shoulders than heart surgeon operating on his own child. so who are you to judge his character. who are you to say he isnt already a good person. hell yeah myron, pump your arms, flex your muscles, throw your headgear in release of emotions. i dont believe too many people in this world are capable of dealing with what you just went through. your character was displayed in those 6 minutes on the mat, not the 5 seconds after. myron for president 2012.

looks like trinity has a shot. 6 ryle kids left in semis and 6 trinity. i think edge still goes to ryle but they have had a few drop out and one injured.

Ok a couple of changes to my predictions. At 112 I forgot about Hamlin from SK. I guess he was out of the lineup early in the year. He'll finish top 4. And Chamblee is at 171. How did they get him past the fat test for 130 where he originally was planning to go. You can't cheat on those right? Seriously, Rich if your out there, let the boy wrestle an appropriate weight class. I think you were 189! Anyhow, Hero will make the podium. Haven't heard anything on the seeding so I'm not sure if there are any suprises, but we'll see tomorrow.
so this kid is 125 two weeks ago and now he is 171? what a growth spurt, damn puberty. i heard "grapplesackless" was 103 his senior year but two weeks before state he also went through puberty and had to wrestle 285, and now we all know him as "grapplesack"
-
i think the only state champ in this picture is travis k. haha imo
no, i am pretty sure tupac would be stoned. so my pick would have to be hitchings if he could dodge the gunfire.
-
explain please. :?
because he will have to wrestle 7th in the lineup instead of 8th in a dual. duh! ranger, dont you understand the pressure that would create, months of sports psychology counseling sessions, sleepless nights, and panic attacks. all of which could lead to weight loss and then force him to wrestle even a lighter weight class, pushing him up to 6th in the lineup. then the cycle starts all over again. i cant handle the pressure just thinking about it, lets just leave the weight classes alone.
-
floridafan, when I read the post sober I didn't understand it. I drank a fifth of my strongest brew and suddenly his post made sense. Now I am hungover and sober but I can't remember how ceron's post made when I was intoxicated. Damn, need to drink again and get back with you.
grapplesack, you have had plenty of time to lose your sobriety and get liqoured up, if you dont speak up now on agreeing or disagreeing with cerons non argument, i will be forced to consult with GOO,s alien keepers and agree to disagree with myself.
-
Doesn't matter. That is why I underlined the part reading NFHS requires power of 4.
This rule partains to the whole season not just regionals. Same as there are rules for keeping score in both regular season and regionals.
GOO, could you leave glenda alone so she can concentrate on giving us the results please. that is unless you are GOO flirting in which case i will leave you alone.
-
Only thing is, this was not a "Regional Tournament".
Great job to North Oldham!! Some good wrestling on a nasty day with some great matchups in the finals. I know the teams there are glad they were not idle for a second straight week before Region.
glenda, do you care to share any of the matchups and results for the finals?
-
First i want to thank North Oldhams Wrestling staff and parents for doing a great job with the tournament tonight!!
To the idiots who don't understand: North Oldham did a great job with all the teams that showed up. this sport is about the kids, if you didn't realize that. They gave an opportunity to alot of kids who didn't get to wrestle last week because of the weather. Allowing them to get more quality matches in before regions without sitting out for two weeks. People complained but they didn't have to open the tournament to anymore teams. Without this weekend of wrestling, some of the kids could be a little rusty without live action from other opponents. For those who complained, you didn't have to come, but i bet you were satisfied with the wrestling throughout the night.
This is about the kids, let them live in their glory of the sport. You never know what they are going through at home, this could be the only time they feel anything. As coaches and fans, lets make them feel loved for the their accomplishments and entertainment they provide us at these events.
ceron, i agree with you whole heartedly, i am so mad about THIS, i cant believe these people would say or do these kind of things! what kind of society do we live in. wait , what is it we are complaining about? i have no clue what you are talking about, you began a thread without any insight as to what the problem may be. didnt your mom tell you that drinking and posting doesnt mix. if you happen to throw your thoughts together and post them, i will support you 100% .( that is unless grapplesack or olymic wish support you , in which case i will have to disagree.)
-
Don't reschedule! The kids aren't babies & there are no scholarships riding on it. My son is done for the season & says he will not be wrestling for high school. My youngest son moving up from youth to middle school has already expressed that he is done after this year. It's a shame, they read the posts on here & form their own opinions of what adults think about each other & how to run a scholastic sport that is supposed to build character, integrity, mind & body.
If you reschedule it you know there will be more people bashing the location, date, time and what ever they can think of to make you feel bad or small or stupid than people in support. Don't torture yourselves.
There is no right answer for this one so do not break what is broken anymore. Reflect on the season & all that went right & wrong, have the meetings & fix the problem.
Good luck in the future, I'm done.....I think
frank, you cant be serious. you are normally one of the more sensable individuals on this site. i like to think of you as "sensible frank". have you been drinking? fighting with the wife? abducted by aliens? or just plain tired of the fighting. the latter i can understand. but to say your kids are quitting wrestling because of what they read on this forum is nuts. come on man, get back up lick your wounds and rethink your statement. it sounds like you personally dont feel like making adjustments to your future schedule for the state tournament, but i gotta think based upon your normal passion you display for this sport that you cant really mean its ok not to reschedule.
-
All Midlde School head coaches need to check their email for an important message related to rescheduling the MS State Tournament!
www.kyswa.org
why the need to keep the dates from the parents who are obviously affected by this decision? if you remember the main reason behind the criticsm of the board was lack of communication.
so here are the dates of the secret email. it is sat the 13th. sunday the 14th, and sat the 27th. at first look this bodes well for the hs/ms kids as there are two dates to accomodate them versus only one date for the ms only kids (this will be the main reason behind how a coach votes), wrong , it actually dilutes the vote for those that support the hs/ms kids. example, if you have a vote on what is the best color, red or blue, but you throw in light blue and dark blue as an option. well blue might have the most votes but since half of the blue lovers voted for either light or dark, they split up there vote and on a individual basis they lost to red. we cannot have this happen, so mr lang, you must first vote on to include or not include the hs/ms kids and then vote on the dates that fit the outcome. mr lang, please reevaluate how you are going about this and not make two mistakes in the same weekend.
-
I understand that a decision hasn't been made as far as rescheduling but I think it is much more unfair to ask 240
kids to make weight for the next 3 weeks and wrestle the week after HS state than to make a handful of kids decide between Middle School state and HS regionals.
The decision should do the most good not cater to the minority. I'm still wondering if the coaches or district reps will be polled by the board with options.
hey yacmed, your a tool! first off maybe you shouldnt of let little 6th grade yacmed jr cut 20 pounds so he could dodge better talent. maybe you should of spent the time making him a better wrestler instead of throwing him a meatless bone to chew on for dinner while you had him in the sauna for eight hours. maybe then you wouldnt be looking at 3 more weeks of starvation for your son while you feel guilty. no middle school kid should be cutting that much weight that the mere thought of having him continue to do so for three weeks trumps an eighth graders last shot at a state title or placing in state for the first time in his career. so how about you take a long hard look at your approach to make yacmed jr a quality wrestler and leave your ingnorant comments and child abuse to yourself.
