  1. I think the dungeon is a great place.  If it is going to move, I like the idea of it moving around the state.  Every region could have a chance at a little home field advantage.

3 year contracts for Western, Northern, Middle and Eastern parts of the state would make the most sense.

  2. I love the dungeon. But I want to revisit this issue. Where would be the likely landing of the state tournament next season? I suggested early the YUM Center. But what about Freedom Hall? I love Frankfort/Lexington area, but I personally feel it is time to make the tournament centrally located for everyone.

    Opinions?

  3. I am going to go ahead and make a thread for this so no one asks who is coming.

    Teams attending:

    Fort Campbell

    Union County

    Ohio County

    Caldwell County

    Calloway County

    Trigg County

    Hopkinsville

    Apollo

    Paducah Tilghman

    Pleasure Ridge Park

    Wilson Central (TN)

    Creekwood(TN)

Should be a good day of wrestling at Fort Campbell.

  4. If they made a A/AA state duals and AAA state duals I think the state can make a lot of $$$. Gives the smaller teams something to shoot for while competing in the individual regions with the much larger AAA schools. I will use region 1 as an example... Say Fort Campbell is the A/AA region champ and UHA is the runner up. The UHA as the runner up moves on to face another runner up in a wildcard to move onto state. The top 4 of North, West, Middle and East section are seeded 1-4 and . Top 2 seeds receive a bye and teams seeded 3 and 4 face the "wildcard" winners.  Have your region duals during the week with round 1 and 2 on tuesday and championship on thursday, wild card match on Saturday and state duals the first weekend of Feb.

  5. While the Yum Center is VERY nice-I think that it is a bit too large to hold an event for wrestling. The venue needs to be somewhat like the Frankfort Convention Center (only a little bit larger) in order to keep the great atmosphere that is generated at the State Tournament in my opinion. I think that an arena the size of Louisville's would lose a great deal of that atmosphere.

I do not think you would lose the atmosphere at all. If they keep the rafter seats closed it will not cause conflict. It is a 3 level arena. Open the first 2 levels for everything.. Open top for finals. The KHSAA Directors table in the north end of the court and 6-8 mats covering the floor. Only thing that could be an issue is $$$$.

  6. Yeah, but the same logic applies.  Even if there were 64; you separate the studs.

Something needs to be done.. I am a young up and coming coach and the process of KHSAA makes want to bang my head against the wall.. I know TN system is flawed but the previous placers are seeded. If they do not win the region they are "randomly" drawn in. I like how KY state works, the system needs to be tweaked. I would rather watch Brock Ervin and Garth Yentar in the finals and not in the third round this coming year.

  7. Fellow Coaches,

I've been thrown to the wolves so to speak and recently asked to take over the Shawnee Wrestling program.  Being frank, we are in desperate need of weekend touraments to participate in.  We have a fairly small team (probably less than 10), and are trying to stay close to the Louisville area as much as possible.  Will anyone that may be able to fit us in please send me a private message.  It doesn't seem fair or right for this team to only have three saturday tournaments besides Regionals during the year.  Even if you have to put our team with "not full" team, anything help you all can provide will be greatly appreciated.  Frankly, resources and funds may be an issue, so the quicker you respond the more likely we will be to participate.

    Thanks for your time.
