    Cooper Legacy

I just wanted to take a minute and congratulate the Cooper family on the end of a great run. With it all said and done, the Cooper family has produced 10 state champs (Brad 3, Kevin 3, Craig 1, Neil 1, Kyle 1, Austin 1) and 5 state runner-ups. That's 15 times that the Cooper family has wrestled under the lights. Not too shabby for a bunch of barefoot, bike-riding, river-swimming hillbillys. Not only are these young men great wrestlers, but they are also great fathers, husbands, brothers, and sons. Their hard work and faith have led them to be just all-around great people. Thank you to Mark and Jeanne and Dan and Lisa for being outstanding parents and for all they have done for Simon Kenton wrestling, NKY wrestling, KY wrestling, and Cincinnati wrestling. I guess for now we watch Kevin on the big stage while we wait for Russell cousins to come up and for baby Ryder to come up and do some damage. (I edited my post, for some reason I wrote Josh instead of Kyle initially)

    Region 6 Breakdown

I'm pretty big on Region 6 wrestling and I think the region has the ability to place lots of guys. I will not make predictions myself as I find it a bit unprofessional to do so (Pete Rose) but I'd love to hear what you have to say: 1. At how many weight classes will region 6 place 3 or more guys? 2. Will there be any weights where region 6 doesn't place? 3. What weights do you region 6 can place all 4 guys?

    State Duals

The coaches voted last year and now #2 seeds from a sectional can be seeded at State Duals. Therefore if a team comes from a really tough sectional (like SK and ST X last year), they can still be seeded above championship teams from weaker sectionals. At SuperDuals: SK defeated Oldham 57-12 Oldham defeated Woodford 36-27 At SKIT: SK defeated Henry Clay 44-25 I've been told that Oldham defeated Trinity but haven't seen the score for myself. If that is true, there shouldn't be much discussion, aside from making sure that teams from the same section stay apart. I am hopeful about enjoying that breakfast CCMS.

    WV Duals

This is a great tournament. Simon Kenton went two years go but have since pulled out for state duals. I would recommend this to anybody that doesn't plan on going to state duals. Great hospitality and great teams.

Simon Kenton needs a JV tournament to attend on 12/22. We will have a pretty good JV line-up this year. Please let me know if you have an opening in either a JV tourney or a varsity bracketed tournament. Thanks, Nathan.Gilbert@kenton.kyschools.us.

    Logan Steiber this Sunday

Just a reminder that Logan Steiber will be at Cincinnati Moeller this Sunday from10-12:30. The cost will be $20. I have hosted a couple of clinics through Premier Technique Wrestling with Ohio State guys and can honestly say that they do an incredible job with these. It is well worth the cost and the drive.

    MOW

No big deal, just a couple of quick points... Mr. Myers, Cooper did not lose to anyone this year that Stephen has beaten in the past. He was 68-0 this season including beating several OH, TN, and KY state placers. No disrespect for your boys, I'd like to see the Cooper/S. Myers match-up myself. I just like to see the facts posted. The MOW ballot actually states "Please rank two individuals based on their performance this weekend (not historical, but this weekend)." Admittedly, I voted for Fahey/Yenter. Why? I don't think you can separate the career from the tournament. Generally speaking the weight class is easier at state because of the outstanding career.

    Teams to look out for...

I thought that moving a little closer to Northern Kentucky may have played a part. I know that SK, Campbell, and Walton all had larger crowds than normal (acknowledging successful seasons play a part). Our fans expressed that being able to just drop down 75 encouraged them to come. Access to the horse park is significantly more convenient than to the Civic Center and I think that NKy may have a large enough fan base to make a difference. Sorry, just realized that this doesn't fit the thread but it follows the conversation.

    Region 6 Host

I would just like to give my compliments as well. Very good job both Coach Sherlock and Coach Johnson on a very smooth tournament. We'll see you guys in Lexington.

    question for coaches only

Every situation is different. Is he a transfer or a freshmen that's been around? Is he a good kid or some punk that the administration is asking you to fix? Does he come from a wrestling family and know what's going on or is he absolutely lost? Is he a troubled kid that could use a little discipline to get his life straight or some kid who just wants to add something to his college applications? Is he an athlete or someone looking for a hobby? Our staff discusses every situation independently. To compare two kids in entirely different situations isn't fair to either of them.
