You didnt listen to the wise man.,and stud indeed HS wins over Reuschell ,Jones ,Cooper ,French,Hamilton, ...All KY state champs, ....Outscored every  CC wrestler at state after only wrestling two weeks and two weight classes up the yr they won state...CCs first ever SR AA ...and on and on....not bashing CC but Stephen alone has more credentials then every other CC HS wrestler in.History combined ,except Austin !!!  two losses in four years at state lol ,both by a point !!!

And.idk what CC did in.the stoneage ...a shame.they did not listen to me.or they would have had another state team title but they babied one of their former.coaches sons rather than do what was best for their future.....

I rarely post because its pointless six state titles and six undefeated seasons.between two brothers lmfao ...Stephen still a player in ky wrestling the team he helps coach just won.reg 6 hahahahahah some of you are complete idiots

Been involved with the CC program since I moved here and like to think that I know most things that go on with the program. Would love to know what former coaches kid was babied that cost them a state title.

  2. The amount of wrestlers competing keeps getting larger every year. I remember flying out by myself with Garth and then the numbers continuing to grow every year. A big thanks to Keith Smith, Jon Carr, Joe Carr Sr. and Jr., Isaac Knable, Efren Quirino, and all the Ervins and the staff at Union. I know there are people I am forgetting, but these are the people that I have been involved with over the years. They have meant a lot for the growth of freestyle and greco in Kentucky.

YOU MISSED BOSTON AND JAYCE CARR who is/was  D1 AND ANOTHER PERSON WHO WRESTLED SOME OF THEM IN HIGH SCHOOL  WHO WASNT D1 but was a Nat q NAIA and is coaching Today.

Not sure what the all CAPS thing means. I did not forget Jayce or Stephen. I listed a group of kids that competed and trained together from middle school through high school. Jayce was always a little heavier than them through middle school and not in their bracket at the high school state tournament. Stephen was a great one, but I considered him a middle weight when he moved to Kentucky.

  4. How in the heck did I miss Boston in that first group? And believe it or not, Justin Lampe was a little guy in his younger years. That makes 8 division 1 starters. That's impressive.

Some of the other ones I can think of that I had the honor to watch. Bradbury, Zarth, Elam, Sullivan (the match between him and Spencer was awesome to watch). On a side note, I miss the dungeon. That place was special.

  5. Figured someone else would have already started this thread. Nobody did, so I'll start. Let's talk about some of the great light weights this state has seen. I'll name a few.

Ervin, Fahy, Yenter, Fausz, Ruschell, Blackwell. The neat thing about this group is that they all competed against each other and trained/travelled together at times. That's 6 division one starters. Look back at some of those state tournament brackets. It's pretty cool. There were a lot more really good kids in those lightweight brackets. It's amazing what Brock was able to accomplish in his high school career.

I could start to list all of the stud lightweights in Kentucky this year, but the list would be too long and I am afraid I would miss some. Been at this a long time and I can promise you that we will be watching some of these kids on ESPN 3 and the Big 10 network in the future.

I haven't been around Kentucky that long, so give me some other lightweight studs that need a little love.

Sick of being told I need to check out what is being said on this site. From the looks of it, this site hardly gets anyone posting anymore. Let's keep it positive.

  7. We are pleased and honored that Coach DiSalvo will be running a practice at Campbell County High School in Alexandria, KY on Tuesday March 29th from 5:30 - 7:30 P.M. There is no cost to attend this practice. All you need is a USA wrestling card. We are looking to get the same excitement and participation that the SWORTC is getting in Dayton, here in the Northern Kentucky / Cincinnati area. Check out Yappi for the list of names attending the sessions in Dayton, it's unbelievable. We have been able to secure our wrestling room up until Fargo. If initial response is good, we are working with Coach DiSalvo to do this every Tuesday and Thursday. Cost and exact practice dates will be determined at a later date. We are still in the planning stages and hope to have things finalized soon.

For anyone who is not familiar with Mark DiSalvo. He is the head coach of the newly formed wrestling program at Thomas More College. He was a 2 time NCAA division 1 All American at Central Michigan University. He also has been an assistant coach at Cornell University and Central Michigan University. On top of that, he is the Ohio junior national coach.

Hoping that we get a lot of kids to take advantage of this great opportunity. Not only to get in great training, but to build a relationship with Coach DiSalvo and the Thomas More program.

Please call me with any questions.

  10. Pretty cool I got to sit on the couch tonight and watch Ruschell, Ervin and Danishek wrestle at the Midlands. All great kids that helped Garth get better. Thought I had wasted my money since MSU doesn't get on very much, but this made it worth every penny. If you happen to have it, you need to check it out. Besides practice tomorrow, I will spend the entire day watching it.

  11. Going strictly off of memory, these are the kids I remember. Been at this a long time, so the years kind of blend together.

Brock Ervin, Sean Fausz, Garth Yenter, Logan Wedding, Nick Paden, John Fahy, Jayce Carr, Brent Hitchings, Luke Troxell, Kevin Cooper, Zach Salyers, JJ Jude, Bernard Ray and Drew Newberry. I know I missed some and apologize. If someone knows what happened to the info that was on the kyswa site, I could probably come up with more. It was one heck of a group and I remember Troxell going undefeated. Including a pin against a monster from I believe Indiana.

I may have this information at home still. Have been getting rid of stuff the past few years that I felt was no longer relevant. I will check tonight.

Now hopefully I don't offend too many people, but here is my take on this tournament and any other off-season tournament. I have not been involved in this team for a couple years, so not sure how we are doing it now. We do not use the same weights as USA wrestling. So the weights of our state champs did not always match up. We always tried to put the best team together. So this meant that a lot of times, we had kids wrestling up and sometimes kids wrestling down. I would assume this is still being done. Anyone that has been to these tournaments, knows that other states suck a lot of weight for these. Even at the youth and middle school level. So if you look back over the years, you will find examples of our state champs getting pounded wrestling up and our 2nd or 3rd place kids doing very well at the original weight. So as far as future success it is all relative. I have traveled the country with my boys and I can tell you that there are kids they hammered as youth, lost to as middle schoolers and hammered them again in high school or college. The list of losses that Garth had to kids at national tournaments is long. There are some that are still ahead of him, but the list of kids that he has passed is much longer. A lot if those early hammers are not even involved in the sport anymore.

So my advice to any parents or coaches. Enjoy every minute of it. Take joy in every accomplishment and learn from every defeat. But don't make any more out of it, than it really is. Talk to your kids about their goals and do everything you can to help them achieve them. If they want to continue wrestling in college. You need to make sure they truly live the sport. Not that they win everything, but that the love the sport. It is too damn tough of a sport to continue with if you don't love it.

  12. On this Saturday 08/09 we will be opening up the wrestling room for two sessions with Garth Yenter and Sean Fausz. Registration will begin at 9:30. We will take a break for lunch from 12:00-1:00. Please pack a lunch or plan to go get something. The second session will be from 1:00-3:30. This is open to all age groups.

During the first session I plan to have them focus on proper drilling technique from the feet. This is truly a skill that has to be taught properly and repeated constantly. Garth has spent the last month working with Dennis Hall and Sean has been down at NC State working with his new team. They have a lot to offer. The second session will be more open and less structured. Plan to have time available for the kids to ask questions about what they are struggling with.

This is a great opportunity for wrestlers throughout the state to learn from two of the best. Garth is the current starter at 133 pounds for Michigan State University. Sean will be starting his freshman year at North Carolina State.

Most importantly, I believe this is a great opportunity for Garth and Sean to give something back to the wrestling community. They have been blessed with support throughout there careers and now have an opportunity to give something back.

There will be no official cost for this camp. We will be accepting donations if you are willing and able.

    Call me with any questions.

  13. Hey, wait a second. My kid wrestles for the team in the basement if the Big 10. Very proud of him actually and blessed. If that was directed at me for some reason. I can handle it. It's the wife you have to watch out for.
