I agree that SPG does great things in their room...but come on they have kids that wrestle for them who do not even live in their district. If "bull" Marinelli wrestled in his district he would attend a Dayton public school. I for one don't care but when people act like the transfers/move-ins don't make a difference just look at our own state. 1) Trinity may not win state title in 09' (Bradberry) 2) CC does not win state title in 12' (Both Myers) 3) UC does not win state title in 11' (Blackwell and Jayce Carr) 4) Trinity does not outplace St. X at state this year (Frankrone) 5) Woodford does not place top 5 in 14' (Boston and Carr) These are just a few of the major impacts that transfers/ move-ins have had on our state tournament in recent years.

There are not many things that really piss me off...but when the two top guys (in this case Heidorf and Ervin) meeting so early in the state tournament. They did their jobs all year both won their respective region tournament and what do they get for all their hard work to wrestle the other top guy in the third round. NOT SEEDING THE TOURNAMENT = BULLPOOP!
-
same thing happens every year! one side of the bracket is a "meat grinder" while the other is a "stroll in the park" or at least a little less firepower.
-
I say wells beats the winner from ervin and hernandez, which will be huge for team points!

I have been around KY wrestling since I was about five. Started really following when competing at the High School level. So, no not as long as some, but in the last 25 years, no other region has been as tough as region six. Which until the early 2000's was combined with the oldhams and eastern jefferson county. I did take my advice and have done the research, if you put your glasses on and read my post I clearly said, one team does not make a region tough. So thanks for proving nothing! All the info you need is in Rangers post state report, when you find something to prove me wrong, feel free to present your findings.

Tarzan I agree the guy running the regional tourney seemed a bit power hungry. and I am in agreement with you on the fact that almost half the kids had no no chance of getting the award even if they pinned out. MAybe more because of the byes in the 16 man bracket. Just the way it goes, Fausz could have drawn a bye then Austin would have clearly received the award. Two phenomenal talents and both are deserving of recognition. Austin will probably get it at the BIG one this weekend. Maybe they could challenge each other, b/c we all know CC will need the bonus if they are going to pull off the title run.
-
Most pins comes first, so the small 8 man brackets hurt people chasing awards. Fausz had no byes in a 16 man bracket, and Myers had a full eight man bracket. If the first part "MOST" pins outweighs the second least amount of time. Then the award went to the right person. Either way Austin with 3 pins is impressive, Fausz with 4 pins is also impressive.

KY you are right, there the numbers on participants seem to be about even.

I see what you're getting at here and know that this comment was made because of one of my previous posts. I want to clarify something for you, No one ever said that one single team from Region 6 was the best, what was said, as a whole Region 6 is the toughest in the state. If you do a little research before posting you would know that by and large the most placers/champs in the state tournament come from region 6 every year since I have been involved in KY wrestling. As a region we score more points than any other region. I think the next closest to ours was some 80 points behind last year. Take it for what it is Region 1 had all eight man brackets (some with byes) in that region you can win one match and qualify for state. In Region 4 it is the same way, even with the redistricting of regions this past year, no other region is as tough as REGION 6. When you can show me and everyone else some hard evidence other than the "oh the state champs were from elsewhere" then don't make uneducated comments. I do agree with one statement you made...If you don't come to wrestle next week you might get beat by that kid from boofoo, because he wants "it" just as bad as anyone!
-
I was looking through the results and I agree with whoever said Region 6 is the toughest region. Looks like Union qualified 14 and so did St. X, but both come from very weak regions. I did notice raynel brown is coming out of his region as a 4 seed. lso noticed that Dezember lost in finals. Frankrone beat smith 7-4 or 7-3 which is the first time this year. State looks like it ix going to be fun. At this point without seeing the random draw looks like union county is still the favorite.

because there would be to many CC names on the list! and it seems everyone in region six hates Campbell County. I will say this I saw two Hwt in beast mode...Platt from conner absolutely fived and touch fall the Dixie guy. Might have been the best throw I have ever seen (from a heavy weight). If someone has that on video please post, the whole earth shook!!! I will give the Dixie guy credit he came back and pinned platt (who I think got injured).

Okay Smith is legit and is now has a pretty good shot at placing. Pinandwin called it!

Getting a college or university into the NCAA's has a lot of variables. How large is the sporting venues (how many fans can they hold). They also have to have a certain number of enrollees or students. I also think they have to be able to fill the sporting events so they can pay the ncaa a certain amount of money. I think the idea of having an NCAA any level school with wrestling in the state would be awesome! It would make more sense if one of the 7 D1 universities picked up the sport (NKU) being the one that makes most sense, due to location for recruiting.

Yes 2 pounds on sunday.

I think Brown from walton verona is the front runner right now. After his disappointing finish last year I think he is out to prove something.

I happened to open this thread right after you posted and noticed you mentioned smith over a few others. voiced my opinion that is all. again mason could change my mind if he beats skaggs, and then Krebs at region if he does then yes he has a better shot at placing. if he comes out of 6 as the 3 seed he is less likely to place at state b/c he could run into a 1 seed second round (vega, hernandez, bidner, sheffer) then the long haul back to placing begins. I posted what I did, due to analyzing the possible results not because of how well I know the kids! by the way I fixed my previous post to be more accurate.
-
sorry your whitey tighties must have bunched up! I also stated my opinion he has a tough semis match in region and if he wins it would change my mind about how he will do at state. otherwise he remains a long long shot to place!
-
If mason smith beats skaggs in region semis then I would give him a shot. Right now he is a long long shot at being on the podium.

sparh was up by 4 when he got pinned, Owens did what he does best and road him like a dog then caught that cross face cradle!

This is as close as I could come to actual competing weights from State Duals: Campbell has 9 possible placers (2 champs), Woodford has 6 possible placers (1 champ), Union has 8-10 possible placers (2 champs) CC 106-Wells (top 4) 113-Krebs (ltop 6) 126-Spahr (did not wrestle at duals?...top 8) 132-Maggard (top 6) 138-Fausz (champ) 170-Turner (possible finalist) 182-Matthews (top 4..possible finalist) 220-Myers (champ) 285-Sinclair (top 6) Where they are weak they are WEAK, that was very apparent at duals. This line-up might be all that qualifies from the hammer that is region 6! WC 106-Hurst (possible finalist) 113-Fallon (top 8) 120-Boston (Champ) 126-Carr (possible finalist) 145-Andrioni (top 4) 182-Courtney (top 4) No one else really impressed, but solid and from a slightly weaker region so could get some points from other guys! UC 106-S. Ervin (top 5) 113-Sheffer (possible finalist) 120-Dezember (possible finalist) 126-Blackwell (champ) 132-B. Ervin (champ) 138-Oxford (top 8) 145-Gahaffer (top 4) 285-Brown (did not wrestle at duals?...top 4) Was impressed with their 182lb guy at state duals 3-2 with Smith from moore also with 170 not being as deep this year their Smith could place. Same thing as woodford they come from a relatively weak region and could get some points from their other guys! St. X did not get to watch them this year and they bounced guys all over the place at the duals! I think the state tournament is anyones to win and lose!!

Maggard from CC is at 132 and should make the podium

Weight allowance affecting region tournament weigh ins
neverbreak replied to RYP's topic in 2014 Season
My son was in s similar situation last year and the coach called NWCA and they told him that "everyone" gets the allowance even those trying to stay on a decent plan. Example: if johnny needs to be at 134.5 for his decent to 134 and a two pound allowance is given then he can weigh 136.5 and it will not affect his decent. So basically they said he can be his decent plus whatever they give extra without consequence! I would have the coach call and confirm this, being as things change in the course of a year. -
GOO or anyone else that can help with this question (information is hard to find). How many times have the state duals champs won the State tournament in the same season? I know the last two state duals champs (union in 12 and Campbell/Union in 13) were not sate tournament champs. If my memory serves me well last year St. X the eventual state champs were beat by Simon Kenton, who finished 7th in the actual state tournament. If my memory serves me right... Larue county has won state duals several times in the past, but does not have a single state title...again not trying to bash any programs just trying to prove a point. Thanks in advance to anyone who can give me some answers

add two more mats that cuts the time per round down by 1/4!!!! I understand we don't have enough quality officiating to run that many mats but I would trade wrestling late on Day 1 to having all placers wrestling together on day two! That seems to be the argument given by KHSAA as to the schedule change. Make day one a little longer and finals could be at 5:00pm on day two! Could someone with a brain run the state tourney!
