World's Best 7 Year Old Wrestler

The kid is not just good... he has amazing skill. I've never seen a kid that age pin a kid in a leg cradle as smooth as he did. If you watch the video he pins with many different moves/techniques... he knows his stuff! I just hope he does have opportunities to have fun, learn, compete with as good or better competition and not get burnt out! And I hope he doesn't have a crazy pushy parent but one that teaches him how to handle himself as a good sport. Wishing him all the best!

Special thanks to RaiderWrestling on twitter for the real time updates of the stats of each match. I was not able to make the trip but I knew after each match who our guy wrestled, result, score, and dual score. It was really great! If you want to follow... here's the Twitter info... 2011 State Tournament Photos

The head coaches for LaRue and Region 6 teams were sent the link to the State photos and I have asked them to forward to the team and parents... I've also included the Athletic Directors so the school has access... I'm hoping you all get some coverage in your Year Books. Please feel free to contact you Year Book committee and let them know about the photos. Also, I'd really apreciate it if you would share the link with anyone you think would be interested. I do this for the wrestlers and parents and just want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to check them out! Thanks!

    2011 State Tournament Photos

All the photos from State are finally posted. Sorry it took so long too get them all posted... my day job kept getting in the way of my hobby. I hope you enjoy them and find some you like. I have them separated by day and the finals and brackets in a folder by it's self. At some point I'll put them in folders by school and/or group (like referees, workers, etc.). Most of the photos are of Region 6 schools, but I also took a lot of Larue and all the Finals matches. You may notice that some of the lighting wasn't the greatest and I had a camera malfunction when I took the medal stand photo for 135. Let me know if you can't find what you want or if you have any questions at bluegrasswrestling@gmail.com Here's the link to all the State Photos... http://bluegrasswrestling.smugmug.com/2011StateTournament

    2011 State Tournament Photos

I am working on Day 2 photos and will post some/most of them in the next couple hours. I will do the best I can to get Day 3/Finals posted as soon as I can. I took so many pictures and just want to go through them to make sure the best are posted. You will find photos of Region 6 wrestlers, Larue, all the Finals Matches, Referees, Table Workers, etc. when they are all posted. After I get them all posted, I'll begin organizing them by school or group to make it easier to locate the photos you want to see without having to go through all of them. Hope you find some photos you like. Pam Ruschell

Kyle Ruschell places at the Sunkist Open

He did well and had a blast. This was the first freestyle tournament in a couple years and the first time back on the mat competing since NCAAs. Freestyle has not been a strength of his, but he wrestled really well. First time in a long time where he relaxed and just let it flow... so a lot of scrambling and his style of funk. If you are interested in watching any of the 8 matches he wrestled that 1 day, you can find them at: http://bluegrasswrestling.smugmug.com/Kyle-Ruschells-Videos/Kyle-Ruschells-Videos/ There are 13 of his matches there and the ones from this weekend are 6 through 13. I've also posted the 6 matches he won on YOUTUBE... you can find them at: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=9A749B365EDDCDB5 Hope you enjoy them! :-)
  10. This doesn't make sense for a couple reasons. If an athlete is talented enough to compete at the high school level they should not be denied the opportunity. This will help them continue to develop their skills. If they are held back and only allowed to compete at the middle school level it hurts them, they could become bored or complacient, but more importantly it may keep another athlete from having the opportunity to compete since the individual held back is filling a starting spot on the middle school starting team. I honestly don't see how this rule helps wrestling. If other kids see how skilled wrestlers are given opportunities to wrestle at a higher level, wouldn't that encourage them to work harder and develop their skills so they can compete at that high school level?

    Richard Starks - Updates?

Here's the link to Richard's photos from the NCAA's. I was only able to catch one of his matches... and the set up they had for shooting the inner 4 mats was terrible. We had to shoot across the side mats to get the inner mats... they only let us shoot from the long sides of the arena... so they are not as good as I would have liked... but hopefully he and/or his family will enjoy them. If anyone has contact info for him please let me know or pass this along to him. Thanks! Here's the direct link to the gallery with his photos. http://bluegrasswrestling.smugmug.com/KY-College-Wrestling

While I'm sorry your BP was sent soaring... you can't imagine what mine was doing... no wonder I'm getting so grey. For those interested I've uploaded all my NCAA photos on http://bluegrasswrestling.smugmug.com/2010-NCAA-Omaha. I've arranged them by wrestler, with files for the Awards, Coaches, Fans and Team Party, and Jared Frayer's Big 10/Big 12 match. I was also able to catch one of Richard Starks matches and have those in the "KY College" gallery. Here's a direct link to his photos. http://bluegrasswrestling.smugmug.com/KY-College-Wrestling. If anyone has an email address for him or his parents or knows of a way to get in touch with them I'd really appreciate it if you would either let me know or pass this along to them. Thanks again!

    Richard Starks - Updates?

Unfortunately Richard lost his 3rd match. He wrestled tough but seems a little sluggish and not his usual level of intensity. I'm sure his health concerns impacted his performance... still very proud of him and I have some pictures of him. You can check them out on www.bluegrasswrestling.com Right now they are on the featured gallery but I will pull them out and put them in a separate gallery when I have time. Enjoy!

    Big Ten Action Begins

Big Ten's start today in about 20 minutes. Kyle will wrestle first round against Coughlin from Indiana. My nerves are about a 10 out of 10... I'll be matside taking pictures of all the UW guys and have a media pass so I can hopefully give periodic updates. Send good wrestling thoughts Kyle's way...

    Big Ten Action Begins

The latest thought is that Kyle will get a 4 seed. Either Palmer or Metcalf would get the 1 and the other #2. Kyle Terry as Big 12 Champ would likely get #3 and Kyle would then get #4. We should know soon... With 8 coming from the Big Ten... he will be seeing a lot of the same guys again. Good luck to Richard... we will be cheering for him.

    Big Ten Action Begins

Unfortunately I didn't see the entire match... but the end was exciting. Palmer listened to his coaches and put Metcalf to his back... that was it... sure shakes things up at 149 that's for sure! Kyle wrestled a good tournament and is ready for NCAA's... just have to see how the seeds and brackets shake out.

    Big Ten Action Begins

Round 2 was a tough one. Kyle wrestled Palmer from Ohio State... again... unfortunately he lost 2 - 1. Kyle was called for stalling and Palmer was awarded a point... Palmer also got an escape. Kyle also escaped... that was the scoring. The 3rd period was very active with a lot of action. Kyle wrestled hard and just ran out of time. He wrestles tomorrow against Cheza from Michigan State. Appreciate all the Kentucky support. UW finished the day in 4th place... just 4 points behind Ohio State. 2 will be wrestling for 1st and 6 are in the wrestle backs. If you'd like to follow the results closer than I can provide or to check out brackets and info on other teams, here's a link to check out... http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-wrestl/spec-rel/wrm-bigten-2010.html
