kentucky needs to step it up

Tennessee has a pretty good AAU system IMO. You weigh in for every tournament and they are all on trackwrestling. We have a TOP 100 series with 4-5 tournaments spead out across the state that brings in much of our state's top talent. You sign up for our Saturday tournaments on trackwrestling by midnight Thursday night and physically weigh in the day of the tournament. If the kid is over weight then you can pay a bump up fee to be placed in the appropriate bracket. All of our weigh ins for the TOP 100, Regional and State tournaments are conducted on Friday evening at satellite weighin sights. A referee is present at each weigh in site to conduct and certify the weighins. All the TOP 100, Regional, and State tournaments also use the dashboard on trackwrestling for near immediate results. We do have one TOP 100 tournament left for the season which takes place this Saturday, FEB 23 near Knoxville. Some in KY already visit us often. This would be a great chance to see another way of doing things and possibly even find some competition by heading south instead of north.

    KWOA Spring Classic

If you could start this series a week later next year then you could possibly bring in a bunch of kids from Tennessee. I know our high school (Clarksville High) plans to attend this year but our AAU state for the youth-middle school guys happens to be on this same day. Our AAU state is traditionally always on the second weekend in March.

    Trackwrestling

Trackwrestling is definitely the wave of the future. All of our AAU tournaments in Tennessee currently use trackwrestling. We've been slowly easing into the full use of this system. Last year all registrations for tournaments were thru trackwrestling. This year all registrations are thru track as well as all open tournaments are being ran with this system. All our TOP 100 tournaments plus region and state this year will have a computer at each table incorporating the dashboard for real time results. The plan is for all our AAU tournaments to incorparate the dashboard next season.

  6. Anyone have any information on this middle school tournament taking place 1 December? I've tried but can't seem to contact anyone with any information. Any information would be greatly appreciated. http://www.kyswa.org/nonsanctioned.php thanks, Dave Isbell Team Clarksville Wrestling Clarksville, TN 719 494-6685

    Middle School tournaments?

Are there any other middle school tournaments going on December 1st rather than these 2? Northern KY Conference and Red Devil Duals at Owensboro. Also does anyone know a contact for the Red Devil Duals? thanks, Dave Isbell Team Clarksville Wrestling Clarksville, TN 719 494-6685
  9. I wasn't taking up for this kid. Like many of you, I was only taking up for my state. Like I said earlier, I don't even know this kid but if he were the real deal then I would know him. TN only sends HS dual teams to Cadet and Junior Freestyle Duals.
  10. There's a couple of regulars missing here but I wouldn't call it the JV. Like most every team you sometimes have guys nursing wounds or getting to a different weight class. It's a good tournament. Freshman, JV and Varsity tournaments all going on at the same time. 11. Sheehan, Brentwood High always puts together a good team. They are D1 and placed better at individual state than your Heritage. Buckeye, GP West is a tough tournament. TN has tough tournaments and teams. I just wanted to add a little perspective to those who know very little about TN wrestling. I'm not trying to put down KY either, as I know they have some very tough wrestlers and teams also.
  12. I don't even know the kid who may be moving to KY. But Half, if any KY coach knows anything about TN wrestling it should be you.

  14. I wish more KY teams would make the trip south rather than north. Union County comes to the GP West Tournament in Brentwood, TN every year. I can't remember the last time they won it though. No team scores for Youth State Tournament

Concerning weight classes for individual state, I don't have a dog in the fight as I live and coach youth wrestling in Clarksville, TN. I do follow KY a little as we are on the KY/TN line right across from Hopkinsville and sometimes wrestle their tournaments. I was in the military for 22 years and my kids wrestled in New York, Georgia, Colorado and TN. We always wrestled in successful fixed weight class state tournaments. I don't see how the 10% method would prevent weight cutting. Whether it's an individual or a dual tournament, the desire to cut and wrestle smaller, more naturally lighter kids would still exist. Does KY actually do hydration testing of their youth wrestlers? Wow, if they do. If using the 10% rule, what prevents kids from still cutting weight to make sure they are not close to the weights of their teammates? They wont know the exact weights, but they can increase their chances of seperation. Seems like fixed weight classes would take the numbers advantage out. Everyone wants large numbers but fixed weight classes would even the playing field. Also does KY even have a consolidated weigh-in or are weights sent in by coaches for their state tournament? Seems like a buddy of mine who had a son wrestle in the KY elementary state a couple of years ago said they didn't even weigh in. If no team scores will be kept anymore, I guess none of this really matters anyway.
  16. Team Tennessee is on the way to their highest finish ever. KY should consider sending a team next year. This is a great event held in Kingsport,TN.
