Best team in 16 man bracket would be 1997 Woodford team; they scored 195 points in the tournament and had three champs that year. Best team with the 32 man bracket would be 2003 South Oldham they 257.5 points in the tournament and had two champs that year. You can beat all the good teams and wrestlers you want during season but when it's all said and done it is what you did at the big show and that is that. I know this from experience.

Tournament was well run.

Had a kid wrestling and we are on our back. Ref smacks the mat but we are in a high bridge to the point that the only two points we have on the mat are; our head and our heels of our feet. I go to the table to ask how that was a pin and the Ref said he didn't have his whistle in his mouth when he was pinned but he was pinned.

For those of you that were around in I'm thinking 93 to maybe 98, can't remember the exact time frame but they did stop middle school from competing for several years and the result was Kentucky wrestling teams dropped to the all time lowest it has ever been as far as teams represented in the state. Dropping middle school participation would kill teams in the long run. Your bigger schools and your smaller schools that have support from the schools on the middle school level wouldn’t be hurt by the rule change, but when you’re talking about the sport as a whole you would go back to how wrestling was in Kentucky in the early two thousands and we would see a gradual decline in teams.

Caldwell County High is looking to add teams to the Armstrong Classic, 12-15-12. The tournament is an individual format, medals 1st-4th, team trophies for 1st and 2nd, and MOW award. Teams that committed last year; Caldwell, Calloway, Fort Campbell, Graves, Hopkinsville, Ohio, Raven Wood TN, Paducah, Union (B-team), UHA, and Trigg. I agree with nkawtg135 to a point. After watching the video, I was very surprised at how Dake looked stronger and more aggressive. I don't think Dake would pin Taylor in folkstyle, but the way he handled the tie ups, scrambles, and controlled the center he would beat Taylor. 132 had the most state placers returning into that weight class from the previous year. 8 to be exact.

If you were going to make any moves, I would think you would start from Western Kentucky and go East. Western Kentucky has the most teams in one Region. Region 1-14, Region 2- 9, Region 3-12, Region 4-8, Region 5-7, Region 6-12, Region 7-12, and Region 8-11 It would be nice if there was more of an equal representation in all regions. If what they are saying about Paducah is true Region 1 will have 15 schools next year, but not sure on that.

From your comment I'm assuming you have ran a tournament, which would make you a coach from this region? My question to you would be why are you asking things you were a part of. All these things were discussed as a group during the Region meeting (cost, times, and schedule). As far as the music goes that was my fault and I take all the blame for not having that together before the tournament starts, but to say the tournament was a bust is a little off. I have ran tournaments for several years and feel I do OK at it. I have also been to tournaments that are what you called the worst ever. Like not starting until 12pm when you had your kids there at 7am or computers go down and they don't have a back up plan and your still there till 12 at night and the tournament only has 10 teams attending. First round had 85 matches and second was 86. Our region has 14 teams and for us to have the tournament start on time and end at 5:30 on Saturday I'm very pleased with that. I guess I'm just old school I'm more worried about getting things started on time and ending early than entertaining the fans, I'll try to work on that next time. In ten years when we are able to host it again, you look me up and I'll let you pick out the intro music for the finals so we have that covered.

I realize this is very early but I wanted to get the news out so if coaches are interested in attending they have time to make the arrangements. Caldwell Co. will be hosting a middle school tournament on 12-12-09. Any middle school team interested in attending please contact Coach Walls at: Jason.walls@caldwell.kyshools.us. The tournament will be an individual double elimination tournament. Medals for 1st-3rd. Right now there are several teams from region one that have gave verbal commitments that they will attend, but we are looking to mix it up a bit and want teams from a little bit of everywhere.

That tournament should be the 19th not the 12th of December.
