Is wrestling a team sport ?

fanofwrestling6 - What a great post and a very debatable question for some. Not for me. Wrestling for me, is unquestionably, a team sport. You can't do it alone without teamates, coaches, brothers, sisters, mom or dad. You need everything that you said and you get everything that you work for. However, you will also get a humbling loss that brings you back to reality and you realize that life just isn't always fair and you keep working and striving to do better. In this sport, I would rather have kids that I can coach that have zero skill and have all of the desire and will to learn to love this sport and improve. I always say...we can teach anyone to wrestle, but you have to have the desire to learn and will to keep going when things are tough. Will and desire can't be taught, imo. This sport isn't for everyone. You have to want to be at practice, want to compete, want to learn, want to get better and want to give it your all. If you don't...this team sport probably isn't for you. This team sport will teach you quite a few things. One that has always stuck in my head is...there will always be someone better than you at this sport. Hence the amount of training during the offseason to get better. if you don't train smarter, harder and more often then the next kid....you will get left behind. Kinda like life. Now, I know your nephew and he started wrestling for me in middle school. Great kid, less than average skill when he started, but he has the things that I wish every kid has that I coach....the heart, desire and will to keep working to get better, to learn all that he can, and work harder than the kids that he is wrestling. I am surprised every time I see him and the improvement he has made over past few years. I'll be honest...he couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper sack when he was younger. But, with the hard work and effort he has put into this sport, he will achieve more of his goals....now he just has to believe in himself and have the confidence that his hard work is paying off. BTW...he's a great kid. Keep fighting until the last whistle blows and then when the dust settles....win or lose...he will know his hard work has paid off. If he has done all that he can do, gave 100% and still comes up short...that's ok. Good luck kid. You'll do great and I'll be cheering for you. Hardwork pays!

Cougar05 thanks for the kind words and the break down of the tourney. Things seemed to run smoothly once the wrestling began. Hats off to Donnie and his staff for never hosting an event like that before and getting the incredible help from his parents. They were awesome!!! Good luck at Regionals!

    Cooper- Myers Battle !!!!

Mpire - Congrats to Stephen on a big win. You should be proud to have such a respectful son and to show the sportsmanship that he did. That is awesome to watch. As far as a side show....you should be ecstatic to know that people rearranged their lives to come watch the show. You know, the ref's have to pick from a random draw kit to figure out what weight to start at. I guess it just fell the way it did. Either way, it was great to have them go last and have the all the people in the building stay until the end. That was perfect in my mind and I'm sure in the back of your mind....you thought the same thing. JMO.

The Middle School List - December 2012

I like that. You can read between the lines. I'd put mine out there, but I'm bad with names....and no, I'm not fishing for info. Actually, I could care less, but I am more trying to spike interest in this thread and get people engaged. Thanks for helping me do that J.W.

It's going to be something to watch, for sure! I'll be heading up later today to see for myself. Buckeye - I agree that Breck and Powerade are tougher, but for local NKY teams to only have to drive 90 miles to this tourney and be in one of the top OH events, I think they are stepping up their RPI a good bit. Where is Union this weekend?

The Middle School List - December 2012

Dutch and Zaniac - I agree with you. Spencer will make some noise and possibly place. Going to be a tough rode for anyone to place this year. Hahn is tough and is Mulcahy wrestles like he did against Bender he'll do just fine. I love to see these boys working hard and coming into their own. The rest of you are hiding your sleepers so you don't put a target on their back.

I read that as well. I'm thinking more of how the top 8 in KY will place over all.

So, throw out the top 8 and how you think they will do. I see folks on yappi want to see Stephen and Bo go at it.

The Middle School List - December 2012

Nice updates. I see some kids are moving or settling into their weights. Don't be so hard on your boy. One loss will just wake up the beast. I love to see the Favorites, but the Contenders lists are 6-9 deep and growing with talent. Things are going to be fun in February. Can't wait to watch the best of the best on KY go at it. Who are the sleepers that are going to make some noise? Come on, I know your out there.
  16. It was good to see the KY boys make a good showing in this tough tourney. Walton showed up with 5 kids and 4 placed and took home some nice hardware. Ryle and SK showed they can compete with the big dogs as well. Tough to see Jones get tech'd, but the kid he faced is one of the best. Cooper showed that he is still the man in this area. Great job everyone. You have to beat the best to be the best.

Thanks Coach. We do appreciate you making the trip and your boy helped increase the competition level. I love watching him wrestle. He's a great kid with a special talent. Glad we could get him in.

    MS BEARCAT BRAWL RESULTS

I'm pretty sure that they did not have any KY kids on their team. Golden Cross is a Club Team from Cincinnati, Ohio. As far a Graham is concerned, they have a team full of hammers and they were without one of there top kids who was also a top seed before the tourney. With him, it would have been a much tighter run for the title. Also, Nashville Catholic was without one of their best best and another high seed. It would have been fun to watch those two top guys battle it out for the gold.

Walton-Verona MS Bearcat Brawl Dec. 2012

Zaniac and Dixie Holub thanks for your kind words. You're kids performed very well and we were glad to have them. They should be commended for stepping up and showing they can compete. Hopefully, they saw some good competition from KY, OH, IN and TN. Feel free to let us know how we can continue to make this tournament better every year. We are always open to any suggestions that will help the overall success of the day and the event.

Walton-Verona MS Bearcat Brawl Dec. 2012

Over 70 ranked kids on the KY Middle School list are competing on the Brawl tomorrow. How do you think they will do against the hammers that are coiming in from OH, TN and IN?

    Youth Holiday Classic - 12/16/12

Just to clarify the 2012 Bearcat Brawl charges $150 for a team, not for an individual to compete...if there is an opening. PM sent to PARVUSNUMERO to bring up his wrestler if he is willing to wrestle.
