    SNOW!!!

Just read the press release again. Pitiful excuses "We tried to work cooperatively with another event that is scheduled for Sunday and rearrange schedules, but that group was unwilling to move, leaving us with very few options." Or "It will be difficult for our office to manage this event nearly simultaneously with the start of our girls' basketball tournament, but we have successfully managed overlapping events before and will call on our legions of volunteers and workers to ensure that both events are first class for the students and all involved." I would hope the KYWCA would have some insight on this as I am sure most of the first quote was fabricated. Do 4 games of a sweet sixteen(sixteen pre determined teams) in Bowling Green really have more prestige than a 32 man/14 bracket/88 team tournament going on in Lexington? What a D!@K!! I agree with safety, well being of individuals, but don't make BS excuses or blame someone else. And last I checked the wrestlers, coaches, officials, and table workers were the necessary parts of the tournament not Julian Tackett!

    Postponed!

Thank you CoachTeater for clearing that up. I am a coach on all 3 levels and Tackett blaming the KYWCA needs to be explained. For the commissioner to say that, and it not be true, calls for action. I am sure the KYWCA would have made arrangements to have the High School tourney. Tackett sucks!!

    Region Realignments for 2010/2011

I propose the following. Just from years of having to drive from tournaments across the state. If we do not go back to district/region/state format. Realign as follows: Reg 1: WKY (11 teams) Apollo, Caldwell, Calloway, Christian, Daviess, Ft Campbell, Hopkinsville, Ohio, Pad. Tighlman, Union, UHA. Same as current. Reg 2: ??? (10 teams) Barren Co, Bullitt Cent, Bullitt East, Central Hardin, Ft Knox, John Hardin, Larue, Meade, Nelson, North Hardin. Reg 3: Jefferson Co West (12 teams) Central, Desales, Doss, Fairdale, Holy Cross, Iroquois, Manual, PRP, Shawnee, St. X, Valley, Western. Combo of current regions 3/4. Reg 4: Jefferson Co East (9 teams) Atherton, Eastern, Fern Creek, Jeffersontown, KCD, Moore, Seneca, Southern, Trinity. Combo of current regions 4/5. Reg 5: NKY (12 teams) Bishop Brossart, Boone, Campbell, Conner, Cooper, Dixie Heights, Holmes, Newport, Ryle, Scott, Simon Kenton, Walton-Verona. Same as current. Reg 6: Central KY (9 teams) Anderson, Boyle, Danville, Franklin, North Oldham, Oldham, S. Oldham, Woodford, Western Hills. Combo of current regions 2/5/7. Reg 7: LEX (9 teams) Bourbon, Bryan Station, Harrison, Henry Clay, Lafayette, Madison Cent., Montgomery, Paul L. Dunbar, Tates Creek. Reg 8: EKY (11 teams) Ashland Blazer, Belfry, Johnson Cent, Lawrence, Letcher Co Cent, McCreary Cent, Perry Cent, Prestonsburg, Sheldon Clark, Wayne, Whitley. Same as current. There is not much that can be done to break up WKY region, NKY region, and EKY region. These regions are challenged geographically. It is hard to add or take away teams from these regions. Currently Louisville has aligned terribly. New Region 6 is bit more spread out than these teams are used to, but I do not think they will complain too much. New region 2 has added a few teams. New region 7 is Lexington plus schools on eastern side of Fayette Co. Let me know if I left any teams off. Or if there are complaints, arguements or agreements. I know that you will.

    Region Realignments for 2010/2011

Okay. Discussion has gone around and around. Lets see where we are. 2 options I propose from the feed back received. Option 1: Reg 1(13 teams): Apollo, Caldwell Co, Calloway Co, Christian Co, Daviess Co, Ft Campbell, Hopkinsville, Ohio Co, Pad Tighlman, Trigg Co, Union Co, University Heights. Reg 2(10 teams): Barren Co, Bullitt Cent, Bullitt East, Cent Hardin, Ft Knox, John Hardin, Larue Co, Meade Co, Nelson Co, North Hardin. Reg 3(14 teams): Central, Desales, Doss, Fairdale, Holy Cross, Iroquois, KSB, Manual, PRP, Shawnee, Southern, St X, Valley, Western. Reg 4(12 teams): Atherton, Eastern, Fern Creek, Eastern, Jeffersontown, KCD, Moore, North Oldham, Oldham Co, Seneca, South Oldham, Trinity. Reg 5(13 teams): Bishop Brossart, Boone Co, Campbell Co, Conner, Cooper, Dixie Heights, Grant Co, Holmes, Newport, Ryle, Scott, Simon Kenton, Walton-Verona. Reg 6(10 teams): Bourbon Co, Bryan Station, Franklin Co, Henry Clay, Lafayette, Montgomery Co, PL Dunbar, Tates Creek, Woodford Co, Western Hills. Reg 7(8 teams): Anderson Co, Boyle Co, Danville, Madison Cent., Madison So., McCreary Cent., Wayne Co, Whitley Co. Reg 8(11 teams): Ashland Blazer, Belfry, Hazard, Jenkins, Johnson Cent., Lawrence Co, Letcher Co Cent, Perry Co Cent., Pike Co Cent., Prestonsburg, Sheldon Clark. Option 2: Reg 1(13 teams): Same as above Reg 2(10 teams): Same as above Reg 3(13 teams): Central, Desales, Doss, Fairdale, Holy Cross, Iroquois, KSB, Manual, PRP, Shawnee, St X, Valley, Western. Reg 4(9 teams): Atherton, Eastern, Fern Creek, Jeffersontown, KCD, Moore, Seneca, Southern, Trinity. Reg 5(13 teams): Same as above Reg 6(9 teams): Anderson Co, Boyle Co, Danville, Franklin Co, North Oldham, Oldham Co, South Oldham, Woodford Co, Western Hills. Reg 7(10 teams): Bourbon Co, Bryan Station, Harrison Co, Henry Clay, Lafayette, Madison Cent., Madison So., Montgomery Co, PL Dunbar, Tates Creek. Reg 8(14 teams): Ashland Blazer, Belfry, Hazard, Jenkins, Johnson Cent., Lawrence Co, Letcher Co Cent., McCreary Cent., Perry Co Cent., Pike Co Cent., Prestonsburg, Sheldon Clark, Wayne Co, Whitley Co. Both options include teams that may or may not have programs or participants in postseason this year or next. Those are: Trigg Co., Barren Co, KSB, Atherton, KCD, Grant Co, Madison So., Hazard, Jenkins. Comments: Look at participation compared to travel for both plans. The map has been provided by Mathound. Not really a good place to find participation figures, but most informed persons know what teams are full or not. Someone set up a poll. I don't know how.

    Region Realignments for 2010/2011

I know that travel in EKY is a pain. And that some of the teams have to travel through Lexington to get to the other schools in their region, but there is nothing that can be done about that. Rural schools have it tough and always will. Make the best of what you have. Have region at Wayne one year, then Ashland the next. There is not a good way other than to rotate each year.

    Region Realignments for 2010/2011

I meant Region 5 with regards to having the 16 man brackets.

    Region Realignments for 2010/2011

My primary goal in this realignment was to keep participation at regions uniform. For example, region 1 there are a total of 11 teams most of which are not full. Typically, have enough for 8 man brackets only. The same is true for every other region in this alignment. Region 6 is probably the only exception, that region would have several weight classes with 16 man brackets. JC West/JC East concerns: Manual/St X/Southern are the three teams that could be in the shuffle if KCD drops. Most of the teams in both regions are partial squads so it will be different from year to year. Line has to be drawn somewhere and these three are on the line. Arguments, St. X typically a powerhouse in JC with a full squad. Southern, typically a power in region 3 with a full squad. Manual, good team in JC occassionally have a full squad. And not showing bias toward any region I think the Lexington region has way too many teams in one region currently compared to three Louisville regions who have 3 regions that cannot fill eight man brackets in either. The Lexington area has the best chance for growth as well, i.e. Madison Central Montgomery Co in the past few years, as compared to Louisville programs declining or dropping, i.e. KCD, Atherton, Ballard. Leave regions with potential for growth viable to add teams. Like Scott Co, Madison Southern, Jessamine Co, George Rogers Clark. Larger schools with potential for adding wrestling. In Louisville potential schools are few and far between. My alternative for region 6: (7 teams) Oldham, N. Oldham, S. Oldham, Anderson, Franklin, Woodford, Western Hills. Pros vs Cons Easy travel, low participation. Region 7: (11 teams) Bourbon, Boyle, Bryan Station, Danville, Harrison Co, Henry Clay, Lafayette, Madison Cent, Montgomery, Paul L. Dunbar, Tates Creek. Pros vs cons Easy travel(Danville is 1.5-2 hours from just about everywhere), too many participants(i.e. 16 man brackets).

    Region Realignments for 2010/2011

Sorry about omitting Trigg Co, I did not know if they had any participants a region 1 this year. Barren Co I think has a middle/JV school program coached by Luke Pniewski(spelled wrong I think). If KCD drops wrestling most likely leave with 8 teams or move Manual to JC East. Need to keep St X and Trinity apart for participation numbers. Both teams are generally full squads each year. As far as travel in EKY region. It is unavoidable. Roads are bad, no interstates. I would suggest a central location for the region tournament every year. Same goes for WKY. Apollo and Ohio Co has a long drive to Paducah and Calloway Co.

    STATE DUALS CANCELLED

I don't have any kids involved, I do not coach. I am just a fan, but I feel sorry for those kids(Varsity/JV) that will not make Individual State Tournament, because they have a tough region/weight class, who were vital parts of the 16 teams that "qualified" for this tournament. This was their State Tournament. This was their chance to really contribute. Sorry guys.

    STATE DUALS CANCELLED

Every coach out there better call their district person and make sure come Regions that they will be able to travel. There are a lot of schools in northern/eastern kentucky that have a long haul.

    STATE DUALS CANCELLED

This is the worst excuse I have ever heard. The girls all A basketball tourney is still going on. No cancellations. I don't see any of those teams leaving in a panic. For fear of snow. I sure hope it doesn't snow before Region or the Individual State Tournament. Those kids won't be able to wrestle because their schools won't allow them to travel. I hope it snows a foot the day before both tournaments. That way, when we get to the State Tournament we will only have eight man brackets because half of the kids from half of the regions will be able to show up. Should make for an interesting 3 days of wrestling. Let's grow up people. Use common sense on the roads, and drive properly. Or better yet leave the night before. If you can't, don't participate. We will see who is dedicated to the sport.

    Region 7 Final Predictions

Just finished watching Region 7 finals. IMO, wanted everyone to know that Mike Ford was awful in two matches. Bracco match, are you kidding?? Stalling. What was Milford doing? Hedges is lucky did not get hurt worse. Wing started out legal, but went way past legal when Travis K pinned the elbow and had forward pressure, maybe blame that on the asst ref for not seeing that.

    KWCA State Duals are Cancelled

Thank God for hardcore people out there like myself. Pioneer pride is exactly right. If the host is good to go, lets wrestle. I don't want to hear anymore crap about people out of power. I am out of power. I still would have made the trip if my team was in the "STATE DUALS TOURNAMENT". And how can anyone say that STATE DUALS is just another tournament. It is exclusively comprised of the 2 best teams from each region, unless such team is unable to attend. When the tournament is completed the winning team gets a trophy that reads, "STATE CHAMPIONS". Not WCI, or Dragon, or some other tournament name. And for some schools like Meade, Nelson, Simon Kenton, and Tates Creek who are either new or improving, STATE DUALS is a huge accomplishment. So please do not discredit this STATE competition. And for the other tournaments on the same weekend, I say wrestle on as well. How do we advance wrestling in KY? It needs to be more like college because college is the next step, correct? Do you think NCAA National Duals is just another tourney? I bet Iowa, Minnesota, Oklahoma St. and others would strongly disagree. Just the same as past STATE DUALS champions would disagree.

    KWCA State Duals are Cancelled

Let me first say I am at my job where we have power obviously. Now let's get to the point. I am somewhat shocked at the reactions of many of participants and fans of wrestling in KY. I do not understand how we fool ourselves into believing that a "STATE TOURNAMENT" is meaningless. I hope our coaches, ADs, and commissioners have a little more gumption when the individual "STATE TOURNAMENT" comes around. If not, everyone better pray for sunshine and 70 come Feb. 19. I would hate for something like this to happen to a basketball tourney. Oh wait, it did, and they are still playing. And from what I have been told and visually seen the local basketball teams have been having practice without being in school. As for not rescheduling State Duals, that is just crazy. Basically, we are saying that State Duals is pointless. Why even bother having it next year or the following year? Lastly, it seems as though State Duals previously was scheduled around Jan 15-20. I may be wrong. If not why was it moved back?

    State Duals

I don't think Larue and Trinity have wrestled. Only the top 4 teams are seeded. I think that the other 4 region winners draw into a pool. Then the runner-ups draw into a pool. Top for from information presented so far: Pool A:(#1) Trinity Pool B:(#4) Woodford Co. Pool C:(#2) Campbell Co./Larue Co. Pool D:(#3) Campbell Co./Larue Co. Doesn't matter between #2 & #3 seeds really, just #4.
  19. No the dual was 6 points going into the finals match because larue ended up winning by 38-27, confirmed with a member on that team. 11 pt win was after Larue was penalized a team point for celebration. I will see if I can get the tape showing were the other ref stepped on the mat and post it on youtube or something. And Detre would have crushed Gray within first period. Gray was pinned at least once during that year. Oh yeah, he defaulted to Detre in the second round of State Tourney without stepping on the mat. Wrestled another match, then was pinned in 2nd period by Schetler. So what does that mean.
  20. I forgot to mention that if Whitaker had of wrestled that day at 215 Larue still would have won. If I remember correctly and I believe I am, Parks in his infinite wisdom bumped up his starting 189 to avoid Detre. Detre pins the backup. Woodfords 189 majored Larues 215. Larues hwt pins Woodfords. I think Woodford ended up losing by 11 or 12. So if Woodfords starting 189 is still in lineup Detre still pins him, Whitaker pins at 215 Woodford only gains 2 pts. Still lose. Am I wrong?
  21. Just to clarify the 99 Larue/Woodford dual at state duals was the semi match. Also another ref, not the one on the mat, walked out and told the ref to stop the HWt match because Woodford had an illegal headlock(no arm). Because the other ref stepped on the mat is why the pin was not called. As a result the Larue hwt legally pinned the Woodford Hwt.

    State Duals?

How can there be any doubt who the top 3 are. The only question is who is #4. 1.)Trinity 2.)LaRue/Union 3.)LaRue/Union #2 & #3 don't really matter because they will be on same side of pool. 4.)Toss up between Campbell & Woodford. But who wants to win that and go up against Trinity. Reason for above seeding. Trinity beat Union(by 3) and are unanimously best team in State. LaRue beat Union in a tough dual(by 1). LaRue has only lost once in KY to Seneca(by 1). Union's only losses are to above listed teams. I cannot make a case for Campbell because they only wrestle in NKY, and Woodford is Woodford.

    800th career dual win

How long has he been coaching?

    Sleepers at State Duals

The brackets will look something like this: Pool 1) Union (1 seed overall) 2 Draw in #2 excluding Henderson, Ryle & Larue 3 Draw in #2 excluding Henderson, Ryle & Larue 4 Draw in #1 between (Meade, S. Oldham, Woodford) Pool 2) Campbell Co (4 seed overall) 2 Draw in #2 excluding Henderson, Ryle & Larue 2 Draw in #2 excluding Henderson, Ryle & Larue John Hardin (5 seed overall) Pool 3) Trinity (2 Seed overall) 2 Draw in #2 excluding Seneca & Johnson Central 2 Draw in #2 excluding Seneca & Johnson Central 1 Draw in #1 between (Meade, S. Oldham, Woodford) Pool 4) Wayne Co (3 Seed overall) 2 Draw in #2 excluding Seneca & Johnson Central 2 Draw in #2 excluding Seneca & Johnson Central 1 Draw in #1 between (Meade, S. Oldham, Woodford) Semis would be Pool 1 winner vs Pool 2 Winner, Pool 3 winner vs Pool 4 winner. It is all in the draw. Theoretically Pool 3 could be Trinity, Ryle, Larue, Woodford. That would be exciting!!!!

    Seedings for State Duals?

No one is beating Union.(period) Everyone better hope that they are seeded or draw opposite of Union. Trinity better hope that Ryle and LaRue are not on their side also. Trinity only beat LaRue 33-27. Ryle is better than everyone thinks. According to LaRue's website. They are 22-3. Losses to John Hardin 36-31, Trinity 33-27, and Union 51-18. Wins North Hardin (2), Seneca, Simon Kenton, Paul Dunbar, and John Hardin 36-28. I don't have a website for Ryle.
