No, it wasn't close. I don't remember the score, buy Davis dominated. -

One choked his opponent so blatantly that people were yelling from across the gym that he was being choked while the ref just stood there and, yes, didn't ref properly. The other one crossfaced his opponent too hard, which should have been good for a point, not ending the match. -
LOL. Yes, that wouldn't be any fun, especially 'cause I get a lot of pleasure out of complaining about one ref in particular.

You're right, widow, I try to be pretty level-headed, but Thomson was clearly outclassed, and I don't like how that match ended. And by the way, the only reason Davis hadn't already beaten Thomson is because he didn't wrestle at the Dragon. -
Norbury isn't exactly a dark horse.

That's not all that bold. He was obviously scared to death of him at regionals. -
Luckily, RyleDad, someone is always available on this forum to correct your every mistake.

Kentuckywrestling.com HS Rankings 2008/2009 - FEB 16

Whoa. Gettin feisty, Ranger. LOL -
I thought it was decent for region 5. Stalling was called pretty consistently. Being out or not was called inconsistently, so sometimes a takedown or escape counted, and other times it didn't. Some takedowns were a little questionable in terms of whether control was really gained. Only one match was decided by a bad call, Davis-Thomson.
-
I predict Wright. Maybe he was having an off day, but Bollman didn't look real strong at regionals.
-
Oh, no. And I put Carr in my contest picks. Shoot. I really wanted to win that new car Bluegrass Brawler promised.

I, for one, think Danger is funny. That's what this site is all about. Shouldn't take anything too seriously. I hope you get to go out there at State, Danger. Maybe you can be your team's mascot! Donkey is jealous of your razor-sharp wit. That and your suave good looks.

That's the same one I want to see. Others: Norbury - Ervin; Whiting - Harlow; Proctor - Brown -
He's a senior, and he isn't going to State, so what would be the point?

Has Been, I think that's an important point but also an area that's hugely open for interpretation. I know of a wrestler a few years ago who was slammed so hard in regionals he suffered a mild concussion and was not even awarded a point. Losing that one point cost him the match, besides the fact that he had to continue wrestling injured. Things like this are a judgement call, and that makes it tough.

Blah, I didn't say I didn't want to talk about it. I said it was a disputed situation, as various people had varied opinions on what happened. From where I was, the people around me watching the match said first that Thomson was choking Davis. Then they said, "Wow, that's a mean crossface." They didn't say "Wow, Davis just hit that guy." And I would add that the people around me were not Eastern parents or fans. In fact, some of then weren't even from Region 5. The coaches reviewed the video of the match and talked with the ref and determined that awarding the match to Thomson was warranted. That's Davis' consequences. Now he's not undefeated, and he goes to State as a no. 2 seed. I think he did learn a lesson, and, as I said, he'll be ready for State. You're right that there are bigger things in life and high school wrestling. To have DQed Davis from State would have had a profound effect on his future. He paid for, perhaps, getting too aggressive, and Eastern paid by losing the win and the first place standing in that weight.

No, I'd rather not be the one to get into it. It was one of those disputed situations. J.D. will be ready for State, going in as a 2 seed. He's still the guy to beat at 140.
-
Saw Ryle at Connor last week, and I agree they look very strong. I think they're the team to beat.
-
Don't know about other regions, but in Region 5, at least three of the so-called weak sophomore class were the champions. There may have been more, as I don't know all the kids, but I know at least three of the champs were sophomores.
-
It was one of the most exciting regionals I've attended. Lots of great competition. Would have preferred the finals to be dueled one at a time. Don't know why they couldn't have been, considering it was still early when we got to them. Congratulations to Ryan Houchens, who came back from an injury at the Dragon to take MOW.

You're right about that -- Chuck Anderson is loud. I misspoke on that one.

Good post, Jo. I'm surprised you know about these coaches since you're new to KY wrestling, because they're generally the quiet men who sit in their chair and watch. They'll get up and talk to the ref if they feel strongly about a bad call. And they'll coach their wrestler when play is stopped. But they don't stand over them yelling directions with their feet on the ring as I've seen some coaches do, especially the Carrs.
