I think that's pretty cool. It's going to be a fun time just from the magnitude of the event -- 2100 wrestlers from, I believe I counted, 25 states. Eastern is sending 7 boys: Cecil Clardy, Austin Dicken, Kyle Durbin, Dustyn Juvera, Tyler Lancaster, Russell Nyitrai, and Tom Shirey.

And I know for certain that Kyle Durbin, Cecil Clardy, and Austin Dicken have all mailed their registrations. This is the biggest showing Kentucky has ever had. Good luck to all.

Turns out Austin's foot isn't broken. He's going to Tournament of Champions. As far as I know, Tom Shirey, Dustyn Juvera, Austin Dicken, Cecil Clardy, and Kyle Durbin are all going.

Yes. Hardy had a long recovery road ahead of him, but he plans to be ready to wrestle in the fall. Austin's injury isn't as serious. I think he'll be OK by summer.

Not sure about Austin Dicken either. He may have broken his foot.

Hardy Hendren isn't going now. He broke his elbow at Nationals. Has to have surgery.

No, it's not. It's possible, though, they would accept wrestlers who list their state championship place or regional place as reason for qualifying. The only official qualifying tournaments shown on the site are one that was held January 31 and the Connor Cougar Classic in March. As for attendance, Cecil Clardy, Russell Nyitrai, Dustyn Juvera, Austin Dicken, Tom Shirey, and Kyle Durbin are all going from Eastern. Maybe Hardy Hendren, too. He's concentrating on Nationals right now.

Dinubus, I'm curious why you chose Evansville, IN instead of Franklin, IN on April 18? Is the Franklin tournament not folkstyle? Maybe I didn't look at it right.

I agree, Ranger. Bring on the competition.

    most exciting weight class.

I think at this year's tournament 125 was most exciting. I agree that 135 was most competitive. As for the most exciting in general, I'd have to go with 145. It's smack dab in the middle. More people who wrestle at that weight are at their natural weight. You have to rely on good technique and strength and almost never come up against somebody who doesn't know anything.

    2009 COUGAR OPEN - MARCH 14TH

Here's a link. I liked that this tournament was closer and is in April as opposed to Michigan in November. http://www.ohiotofc.com/
  14. Well, you know. His name's challenging. :-DYou know who I mean.

    2009 COUGAR OPEN - MARCH 14TH

I've attended this tournament for years, and I think today was the best. Good turnout, well-run, and some good competition at the high school level. Besides some wrestlers from Ohio, a number of Kentucky wrestlers were there -- some from Woodford, Ryle, Simon Kenton, Eastern, Wayne Co. It's now a qualifier for the Tournament of Champions in Columbus, Ohio. That's why they required the AAU card.
  16. Josh Bruning was beaten today by Kyle Durbin, Eas, at 189 -- at Connor Cougar Tournament.

Forgot the most important one! Who loves ya, Baby?

J.D. won't be there after all. He has to work. Sorry about that.

You're right. Most if not all of the best Jeff Co schools are already overcrowded. Right now JCPS is the 25th or so largest school district in the U.S., and that's with a significant number of students attending private schools. BTW, while we're talking about funding (granted, this is pretty far from the original topic) -- I'll also point out that not all the tax revenue from Jefferson County residents stays in Jefferson County. Some of it goes throughout the state to fund other school districts.

What wrestler will you miss the most?

Agree -- When I thought about this, I realized the pool of wrestlers throughout Kentucky is kind of young. The only ones I'll consciously miss are Zarth Norbury Davis Courtney Whiting Last year, my list was much longer: Elliott Martin Zach Poulton Coty Lewis Derek Branch Josh Ashbrook Mark Jones Anthony Bailey Mason Reid Jarvis Elam
  21. Thanks for that link, FCHS. Yes, Title IX killed wrestling at a lot of colleges.

OW, I realize I would be wasting my time responding because your attention span is clearly too short to follow the thread, especially when that inattentiveness is coupled with a desire to tear down other people. And 385, I'm sorry you don't have a sense of community where your school is. I do think it's a blessing for us.

There is very much a sense of community in Middletown, where Eastern High School has existed for almost 60 years. Most of the local businesses donate to the school, and many of them display Eastern jerseys and sports memorabilia right along with Cards, Cats, and Colts stuff. The Big East tournament had more than 20 local business sponsors. Students attending there are second and even third generation -- former students now teach there and help coach. You see the same people in church on Sunday morning who are teaching our kids and working for Eastern on Monday. At the Middletown festival in the fall, most of the parade is Eastern clubs or feeder clubs from Crosby Middle or Middletown/Hite Elementaries. So to say Eastern has no identity in the community -- or that kids don't identify themselves with that community, is patently absurd.
