Thanks for the great suggestions. This has already been addressed and I've recomended to all coaches to use the age format. This will be changed in the bylaws.

    UPDATED YOUTH WRESTLING BYLAWS

Anklepick, Thanks for your concern. It would not affect the Northern Ky teams going to Ohio, the league you are referring to is strictly a youth league. They do not allow middle school wrestlers. Also, Louisville, Lexington, and Eastern Ky participate in that league. All other states in our area prohibit completely youth wrestlers from competing in middle school events and vice versa. How many youth tournaments are planned is anybody's guess. The board has looked at the 5 match limit as a way to jump start youth wrestling in Ky by getting teams to realize they have to step up and get their programs running and tournaments planned if they want their kids to get matches. If we allow youth to wrestle middle school there is no real incentive on the youth teams to organize tournaments. Other reasons are more simple. Do you want your 4th graders wrestling 6-8 graders? Are you concerned what your 4th graders are hearing from the mouths of middle schoolers? Again, these are proposed bylaws and we appreciate your input.
  6. The plan for 2008 is to have each region, (northern ky, eastern, Louisville, western), each host regional tournaments. These ARE NOT QUALIFIERS for the state tournament. We are using these to build awareness around the state for youth wrestling. Our goal before turning the regional tourneys into qualifiers is to have a minimum of 500 kids in the regionals. In order to receive consideration for a state tournament you must attend the regional and state meetings as well as have kids participate in those events. We are exploring the possibility of a fixed site. We will actually be having two meetings per year, location has yet to be determined. Please forward your email address to stanmms@fuse.net to receive updates.
  7. Coaches, When you turn in your roster please have the following info. No roster will be accepted after March 1st. fax to 859-586-2119 or e-mail to pat@cougarkids.com Sample roster Name birthdate grade weight Previous state placer (place and weight) **********Please remember the weight your wrestler registers for is the weight class he/she must make on Sat. morning for weigh-ins or he/she will not be allowed to wrestle. ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS.************
  8. I received a call yesterday from a coach who didn't like the idea of not being able to bump up a weight class if their kid did not make weight at the class they had registered in. 1.) I am in no way advocating cutting weight. Ridiculous at this age. 2.) If your kid is on the harry edge of not making weight then move him/her to the next weight and quit worrying about it. 3.) If you're not sure, weigh them before practice and not after. 4.) If you want the tournament to start on time and run smooth then it is your responsibility as a coach to sign your kid up for their true weight. 5.) MOST IMPORTANTLY you should make sure of their weight so your kid gets to wrestle.

    Elementary State Tournament

For what it's worth. The head coaches in our area have done a great job of recruiting x-wrestlers from our area to coach the youth programs. They are typically Dads of youth wrestlers who want to see the sport grow. They are also strictly volunteers. Their are plenty of volunteers out there, the head coaches have to make an effort to find them. This allows us to run our Youth program during wrestling season (nov-feb). I don't think running into March in this area is viable because of baseball and soccer. Wrestling season is Nov-Feb and I think if we don't run it at that time we will lose the battle of kids to baseball and soccer.

    Who's going to Elementary State?

Conner, Ryle, Campbell Co., Simon Kenton, Twinhofel, Fern Creek, McCreary Co., Ockerman, Larue, Trinity, No-Ox, are the ones that I have heard(most are confirmed). Most of these teams have also agreed to help with the tournament in some capacity. They will also be at the coaches meeting on March 2nd, 7:00pm at Conner High School. As anyone can see the top teams will be at Conner on March 3rd for the 2007 Kentucky State Youth Championship. Be there for the best youth competition yet in the State of Ky!

    Mt. Sterling Youth Wrestling

I'm not sure but keep in mind the Ky Youth Championship is being held at Conner High School on March 3rd.
  15. Where/what part of the state is Montgomery Co. in?
  16. There are 36 brackets. If a team has more than one kid in a particular bracket they will have to, at time of registration, name their point scorer. The issue of a team winning solely on having the most kids will never be solved at this level. We cut the weight classes down from 56 to 36 simply to eliminate a great deal of empty or 1-2 person weight classes. We're making too much out of who will be the Ky State Championship team at this level. The kids should be our only concern. Are they learning, enjoying and wanting to comeback next year. I say, within reason, the more kids to receive medals the better.
  17. All coaches are invited and encouraged to attend a coaches meeting on March 2nd, 7:00 at Conner High School to discuss the following topics. 1. Election of a Board and President 2. Begin to establish bylaws. 3. Discuss weight classes. 4. Discuss the possibility of a Regional format for the Youth State Tournament. 5. Discuss a date for future State Tournaments. 6. Discuss how a team will be awarded a Tournament date. If anybody has any ideas on these issues and any other please email to stanmms@fuse.net I will categorize them, make copies and hand them out at the meeting. IF YOU WANT TO BE HEARD THEN YOU MUST ATTEND.
  18. ON March 2nd at Conner High School we will be discussing exactly what she-hate-me is talking about. Having the youth organization fall under the same management as Middle School. It makes tons of sense. Same rules, one governing body. This is one suggestion, others want our own President and Board. Others want one organization to fall under the Middle School with a person to act as liaison from youth to middle school to make sure our best interests are being considered. All coaches please be in attendance on March 2nd at 7:00 pm at Conner High School. Let's get this done. WE NEED ALL VOICES TO BE HEARD.
  19. My name is Stan Martin, I currently run the youth program at Ryle. In October I attended the meeting in McCreary Co. Just to dispel some rumors the following occurred. I called Pam Clark shortly after school started to find out what was happening with the Youth State Tourney. She told me how she had emailed and phoned Jim Matney on several occasions with not one returned communication. She also told me he was very busy with Football. Because he never returned any communication the desire to hold a meeting was posted. 1. Pam Clark agreed to host the meeting since nobody else would. 2. Yes, there were only 4 schools that attended, none of which was Johnson Central. 3. Ryle did agree to host the elementary tournament not because nobody else wanted to but because we did. We expressed our interest at last years tournament and were always under the impression we would host. 4. Just recently I found out that Ryle's gym was not going to be available on March 3rd. I called Pat Lee and he was able to arrange the tournament at Conner High School. 5. I personally called EVERY high school coach in Ky. to find out who was responsible for their Youth program. Only THREE COACHES returned my calls, again Jim Matney was not one of them. 6. Ryle hosted a tournament on 12/02/2006 which was posted as an open invitational to every team in the State of Ky. Simon Kenton, Campbell Co., Conner, Summitview, and Fern Creek were the only Ky. teams to attend. Thanks to these teams plus some Ohio and Indiana teams we had 250 kids and a great tournament. Since the above events occurred I have spent countless hours on the phone and email trying to get teams to step up and host regional tournaments. Thankfully we had teams in Western Ky, Louisville, and Northern Ky. volunteer. Unfortunately time became an issue and we had to scrap the idea for this year. My first communication with Jim Matney occurred just one week ago after he posted his listing on this website. I emailed him asking him to call me to discuss all of the above. HE NEVER CALLED ME BACK. I proceeded to call him last week and he answered the phone and we had a very cordial conversation that resulted in nothing. Mr. Matney will hold a tournament on March 23 as we will hold The KY State Youth Wrestling Championship on March 3rd at Conner High School. On March 2nd we will have a coach's meeting, at Conner High School, to formally setup a governing board to establish guidelines for Youth Wrestling in Ky. This has never been done before. Every coach in the State of Ky will have the opportunity to express their opinion. If there is a person somebody wants to nominate for the board, please do so. Please feel free to email myself at stanmms@fuse.net
