When does a move become a "punishing move"

There is a lot of crying, I've always thought to myself if a kid spent as much energy working offense on the mat as they do being upset, mad, and crying the outcome would be quite different. An example could be a kid storming off the mat throwing everything in his path. Why couldn't we see that kind of energy from that kid on the mat?? Sometimes I don't think kids know when they feel physically tired more than likely it's 100% mental.

    2010 M.O.W.

I think he was referring as Osbourne being an underdog because most wouldn't pick him as an M.O.W. and to be honest I don't see him winning it because for 1. Shotwell should be the most deserving and 2. If Zarth a 3x Champ didn't win in why would Osbourne?

    Open mats in SW Kentucky?

We had a pretty good turnout today with quite a few guys. Our weight room is open and we have mat time. We have a very good coaches down there with the head coach of Kenwood, Shawn Smith, Tony Harris, Anthony Smith and two experienced wrestlers in Dee Leavell and myself (Jake Skinner). Your more than welcome to come up on Thursday we have our next open mat session. Where at in Clarksvegas are you at?

When does a move become a "punishing move"

I absolutely agree, I personally have never done this to a first year wrestler that I have faced on the mat. It makes me sick to see someone do this to a first year wrestler, I feel bad saying that because I always think of Justin Davis. It's one thing with an experienced wrestler but on a first year wrestler I actually feel bad because it's almost like bullying. I do it to an extent on some of the newer wrestlers in the room just to get them used to the pain they will experience during a match. Also I do agree if your sitting there trying to punish someone and not trying to score, why go out and wrestle? You are better off just having a street fight for that sake. Maybe I should have elaborated on that more, but the form of punishment I was taught was absolutely legal. For example our coach never told us to punch someone when crossfacing, in fact he said take it nice and slow with the knuckle of your thumb across the bridge of their nose, guaruntee it's gonna hurt more and you get what you want which is the far arm trapped so you can run your far side craddle. This is an example of using "punishment" in a legal sense because your working to improve your position.

    2010 M.O.W.

Basing it upon next year's performance I think it will be Shotwell. He will most likely win the most stacked weight class of next year.

When does a move become a "punishing move"

I hate that word "punish". Refs use it as if it's a bad thing  My coach tells us to punish someone in several instances. In neutral if your opponent takes a shot punish him for even attempting to get a takedown by crossfacing or driving his head into the mat with your hips. When your opponent is stalling on bottom punish him for just laying there by putting pressure on his neck or cranking him to his back. There are several cases where punishing someone is perfectly legal. To stay on topic though I think scissoring the body shouldn't be illegal, like you said previously having a tight half nelson could do the same or even more damage and the ref doesn't call it. I say if wrestler B doesn't pin himself, trust me it causes enough pain you want to pin yourself, or finds a quick way to get out of it it's his fault for ending up in it and he shouldn't get anything for being caught in it, in fact he should be in a sense "punished" for ending up in it. I personally only know a handful of refs that call this and to answer your question, it's up to the refs discretion to decide what is an "illegal punishing move".

    Elliott martin or John fahy

    Elliott martin or John fahy

He was good, beat Elam Shawn Jonhson and Bradbury all that year. I have to say I don't really like these topics. It will never happen and people basically bash their heads to get a point across that.... doesn't matter? Yes you can look at my previous posts and see I don't praise Fahy but I do respect him as a great wrestler I think the last person to tech through the state tourney was like Ruschell back in 2005. We have to admit Fahy, Elam, and Martin are all great wrestlers, instead of arguing over which person would beat who we should focus more on match ups likely to happen. A match up I would like to see is Osbourne vs. Fahy.

What is the best wrestling state in the U.S.?

Yeah, it's a pretty good idea. A lot of teams here do travel. The best thing to do is what Trinity, Union, and Ryle do. They go to these tough tournaments but, you almost always see at least two of these teams at the same tournament. I'm not sure if North Hardin still goes but, they had a very tough 06-07 team and they travelled to Ravenwood, TN. tournament as did Christian County and made a very good showing. It's always good to see these tough KY boys show that they can hang with people on the east coast and even the midwest. Virginia is getting very tough in the sport of wrestling, I would consider them to be a top 10 state here in the next few years.
  11. Honestly Taylor impresses me more. Taylor has stepped up and beaten the at one time #1 ranked Palmer. Grajales hasn't done as impressive of wins. The edge goes to Taylor I'm sure because he beat Palmer.

    john fahy unstoppable???

I agree, I read that like 5 times and I still don't understand what he said lol Look NWfkhs/ chhs, I don't know what you said in your last post but, I will say this; Honestly, I could care less what John Fahy does in his high school career. It wouldn't effect me at all, I do wish him luck in the future though. What all these people are saying he is unstoppable it really bothers me because I see it every year. Kids get it in their minds that one guy is unstoppable, for ex. Metcalf, but alot of times what they don't realize is ANYONE can be beat ANYDAY. That is why only one kid usually shines out of KY rather than several kids with the potential shining and creating a name for KY in the sport of wrestling.

Won't consider him as much???? Your joking right? Every heard of Kyle Ruschell ya he must not be much at all being a 2x state champ and all.

has this ever happend to you?

It just takes time, it's only been like a month out of season you shouldn't see drastic results. Sometimes it's more the quality of the workout rather than the quanity. If your still wrestling sloppy and wrestle just sloppy wrestlers... you will remain sloppy. This is where camps play a big part in the offseason. I'm not say your a sloppy wrestler, I've honestly have never seen you wrestle, but, you should really consider going to camps and learning better technique. Something that really helped me out was the fact I had bad memory so I took a notebook and pencil to the camps I went to. Good Stuff.

If you noticed they didn't put up any of the finals matches. It's because they didn't let them, and during the semifinals they could only film one at a time I guess they just didn't choose the right one. I do think though they should film more teams from the southeast VA boys, NC boys, KY, TN, Etc.
