  1. These look really good only thing that I would change is Ryan Houchens being ranked #10 at 189. I see him definiatly in the top 5 at this weight in my openion. And I think his preformance at Fargo should be in account almost making AA is an amazing accomplishment. But well wait and see when the season starts. Other than that I think the rankings look great. :-D

    BlueGrass Games

I wasen't able to attend the Bluegrass games, but has Evan Bullock really improved that much? I wrestled him in the finals at the Conner Border Wars in March and pinned him in like 18 secs. What good heavyweight matches took place? Did Will Starks dominate or did he have any good matches?

    Next years regions results?

Was that a misprint or is B-Bop really going 215 next year? He'd have to cut like 70 lbs wouldn't he?

    Rebel Rankings - 2006/2007 Preseason #2

Just curious Grappler of Old how Burdin would be ahead of me when I defeated him at state? I had a bad knee that I had surgery on about a month ago, and as a result wasen't able to practice the last 3 weeks of the season. He might have had a bad state, but I didn't wrestle that well either. Oh well I just wanted to hear your openion on why Burdin should be ranked higher than me.

    Team Kentucky

Why do we not have a team Kentucky for high school? I was part of it in middle school and it was alot of fun wrestling the different states and representing my state. We could duel teams that are very close such as Indiana, Ohio, or Tennessee. Obviously I think we'd get it handed to us against Ohio, and maybe Indiana but I think over time it would benefit our state a great deal if we took part in something like this. Many states duel one another and it wouldn't be that hard to organize it. We could take the highest state placer that is willing to go and do it that way, I think we could field a fairly respectable team if we had most of our state champions agree to doing something like this. What do you guys think about this idea?

    Seeding State

I know this had been debated a great deal before, especially on this web site. But what do you guys think the chances are for getting the state tournament seeded? Now I know coaches would be arguing constantly but maybe we could have a seeding criteria. Such as records in state, placings at difficult tournaments (The dragon, WCI, 5 Star), and possibly taking the state rankings into consideration. Now I know it would take a great deal of time to seed the top 8 wrestlers but maybe we could do the top 2 wrestlers and put them on opposite sides. I think the state finals loses some of its prestige when someone gets pinned in the 1st period. And I feel that if it was seeded obviously we'd have better state finals matches and maybe a higher attendance rate as well because of it. Lets here some openions about this.

    Top Ten Seniors and Juniors

103 Juniors by pin 112 Juniors by pin 119 Seniors by dec. 125 Seniors by pin 130 Tough call but I'd go with Seniors by dec. 135 Juniors by maj. dec. 140 Seniors by maj. dec. 145 Seniors by pin. 152 Juniors by dec. 160 Seniors by maj. dec. 171 Seniors by dec. 189 Seniors by pin 215 Seniors by pin 285 Seniors by pin I personally think it would get ugly from 171 up for the Juniors. It would be fun to do something like this.

    Seeding State

Like you said in your post DAWG6 its the luck of the draw come the state tournament. Now doesn't that just sound wrong? We have the state tournament to see who the top 8 wrestlers are not to see who can get lucky and dodge good wrestlers. And if you make a mistake and lose at the regional tournament than thats tough. I agree with Ranger123 only the regional champions should be considered in the seeding meetings otherwise every coach is going to try and fight for there kids to be seeded.

Top 15 Teams in 06-07 Season

Lets here some predictions 1.Woodford (Slightly ahead in my openion but could easily fall to 3rd by state) 2.LaRue (Will have a tough bunch of seniors coming up) 3.Fern Creek (Tough line up needs a little work in some weight classes) 4.Seneca (Always has a solid team put together by state) 5.Union County (Tough team this year and next year could easily move up) 6.Ryle (Reid and Peace will step up) 7.North Hardin (A healthy Baker, Johnson, Eck, Jones, Wolfe, and Ballinger could easily move up) 8.Trinity (Smith, Case, and Florence lost alot to graduation though) 9.McCreary County (Will be stacked from 171-285) 10.Wayne County (Very solid lightweights but falls off in the middle and heavier weights) 11.Eastern (Lost Wise but still has Rupp, Luna, Marks, and Kraft) 12.Oldham County (Has some holes but has some very solid wrestlers as well) 13.South Oldham (Always has a good team Houchens will step up) 14.Harrison County(Would be a top team but falls off at the upper and lower weights) 15.Campbell County ( Tough kids Shotwell, Griffith, and Fuller) Honerable Mention Simon Kenton(Very tough team and could easily move up) St. Xavier (Needs kids to step up but always feilds a decent team) Dunbar(Solid team and could easily move up with both Voths and Winter) Bullit Central (Could be only region 3 team in top 25) This is just my openion feel free to correct any of my choices.

    Seeding State

Trust me I was not comparing WCI and Western Brown, I know there not even close. Partly because I've wrestled in both of these tournaments. I was saying we could not use Western Brown because only 2 KY teams go to this tournament. Much more KY teams go to WCI so you can compare the KY wrestlers rather than the OH wrestlers at Western Brown. If you lost to some kids up in Ohio, Indiana, ect. it would not penalize you because your going to be seeded by your in state record and not you out of state record. I know this will probably be debated for as long as the state tournament isn't seeded, I was just throwing out suggestions to possibly fix the problem.

    Seeding State

Why would in state records penalize people that wrestle outside the state. If your undefeated in state but only have 10 matches in state, then your undefeated and could possibly be seeded. And I see what your saying about what tournaments should be used in the point system, which ones should we choose? Well I would say the 2 top tournaments year in and year out have consistently been WCI and The Dragon. We could not use tournaments such as Western Brown simply because only Woodford and Ryle are the only Kentucky teams that attend this event. I guess to a certain degree I understand where your coming from on the difficulty of seeding the state tournament. But if we had a point system established then it wouldn't be based on the coaches openion but rather a system. And regional champions could still wrestle the 4th place finishers from each region. All I am saying is get the top 3 or 4 kids away from one another till the semifinals. Since doing a true second would be out of the question then I think we really need to consider the option of seeding the state tournament.

Best wrestler never to win a state championship?

I believe one of the Dunbar heavyweights you are talking about did win state. Zach Brewer won it his Junior year and was runner up his senior year. And I definiatly agree wih you on Andre Bradford from Eastern and Cris Reed from Seneca. Andre Bradford got stuck with Brent Gibbs who really turned it up a couple of notches at state. And Cris Reed wrestled Bo Hines extrodinarily well in the semis but just couldn't pull it out. Both have got to be somewhere on this list. Another person that has to be on the list is Brandon Perry from McCreary County. He was a bad man. 6th his Soph. year, 3rd his Junior year, and 2nd his senior.

So Roe will be making it into the line up for McCreary County? If so then I would move them up to #8 on my rankings. Who do you guys have at the lighter weights? Should be a very good year for McCreary County. But I have to disagree with Seneca not in the top 10 with Elliot Martin, Jeff Warra, John Chiu, Dan Fuller, Zach Poulton, and Jordan Dockery all returning. And I'm not from Seneca in case you were wondering lol.

Best wrestler never to win a state championship?

True Byrds arm was a large factor, but having said that Martinko in my openion could've beaten him had he not injured his arm. But thats something well never know. And true Stone and Martinko never got the chance to wrestle only because Wise beat Stone before he could get to Martinko. And Martinko beat Wise so... Now I know Stone defeated Wise for 3rd, but I definitely think Martinko would have beaten Stone. Once again well never know. And I disagree about Wise I feel he was as tough as I'm making him out to be. I wrestled him at WCI and beat him, but it came down to the last 20 seconds. Besides Schere who was so tough that was on the other side?

Best wrestler never to win a state championship?

Danny Martinko had the easy side of the bracket? Are you serious? Dale Stone, Matt Byrd, and Aaron Wise were on his side. If that was the easy side I'd hate to see the hard side. If anything I think his side was harder. Dale Stone got 3rd, Aaron Wise got 4th, and Matt Byrd got 5th. So lets compare sides Scheres side 1, 6, 7, 8. And Dannys side 2, 3, 4, 5. Not taking anything away from Schere because it didn't matter who he wrestled he was going to win, but thats a joke if you think Martinko had an easier road to the finals than Schere did.

tops out of each region next year

I was looking at last years regional places and I had forgotten that he didn't make weight for regionals. Your definitely right overtimeking he'll be winning regionals at 140. Completely slipped my mind. He will be very tough next year.

Best wrestler never to win a state championship?

There were 2 very tough wrestlers from Oldham last year that were never state champions. Alex Wenninger Soph. year 7th at state, Junior year 5th at state, and senior year state runner up. And Danny Martinko 6th as a freshmen, injured Soph and Junior year, and state runner up senior year. Both these guys were extremly tough and just had amazing wrestlers in their weight classes their senior year. Alex ran into Starks and Danny got Schere.

top 4 at each wieght next year

Wow overtimeking you sound pretty hardcore. I wasn't putting Watson down in anyway I think he is a very tough wrestler, which I stated in my last post. Infact I said I'm going for the longshot by picking Dockery. I've wrestled both Watson and Dockery(it has been a while since I wrestled Watson and I'm sure he has improved a great deal) but I had more trouble with Dockery. Once again I'm not taking anything away from Watson and I wish him the best next year. I was just stating my openion. I am sorry I will change my openion and say nobody will touch Watson he has a cakewalk.

    An idea

I actually really like this idea alot. I think it would be great for Kentucky wrestling if we set something like this up for all of the state finalists or state placers. When would we do it though? The final day of state or the Sunday after? Like I said I think this is a great idea!
