For me as a coach it's kind of a pride thing. I see my guys getting beat up (and beating on) the guys from South, OC, Eastern, Ballard, KCD, Fern Creek, and Jtown..... and even though they'r enot my wrestlers, you get a sense of wanting them to do well, not only to validate loses your guys may have had, but also because you spend so much time watching these kids wrestle in your region. I've watched Ryan Houchens develop amazingly over the past couple of years, and seen a nobody at the time in justin Davis come out of nowhere and become a great competitor. I've watched Joaquin Luna in his down times, and then seen him mature as a young man. I've seen Derek branch go from a decent wrestler into a real contender. You get invested in these teams in your region, and I've found myself; like last year at the state tournament, screaming my brains out for Trey Morlatt in the finals, even though my kid Antonio Zeppa had beaten him in the past. It's funny how you get behind your own region.
-
As Dan's coach, I'd personally love to see a Davis/Thomson final. I obviously want my guys to do the best, but when state comes I'm one of those guys who also roots for our region. I like to see the Eastern, OC, Fern Creek, Ballard, KCD, Jtown, and even South Oldham guys place high. Keeps the competition strong in our region.

I'll post the results monday/ tuesday when I have the brackets. Alot of our guys were out with the flu (including me).

Zeppa has beaten Parks, Vinsant, Johnson, Engle, Whitehouse, hedges, Marlo, Harper, Weckbach, and Goodwine (Murphy was out) He has lost to Voth this year 10-9. (only loss) He has not wrestled Wempe, Murphy, Thomas, Evans or Bontrager this year
-
I still don't like this idea, and am extremely happy to be holding Region 5 at North this year. I like the idea of having a rotating fund raiser for the schools. For us, the regions will help us pay for our state mats.

125 Andre Zeppa (NO) dec. Vinsant (Wayne)

Sorry Dragon, I just had to give a shout out for my boy Nickel. I figured if I didn't get to it first, you might bust a socket. :-o
-
You're 215 as first over Derek Nickel, the defending state champion? Wow.

We're trying to get a regional going in Region 5, just getting a day that works for all of us is hard. Coach Fiser volunteered to hold it next wed, with a back up day of thursday at North. We're just trying to get everyone on the same page, so hopefully we'll be sending kids to Moore as well.
-
Yes we were, this year we opted out to goto 5 star. The reason I, as a coach say it dropped off was because I could not get a consistent answer weeks before of who was going to be present. I enjoyed the tournament in the past, and looked forward to it this year. However no one would respond to my emails asking what teams were going to be there. It has been a great tourney in the past, and one down year or two won't hurt it.
-
It has dropped off in the last few years.

What are some of the best, most anticipated team dual rivalries in Kentucky?
NOHS_wrestling replied to ARealWrestlingFanatic's topic in 2008 Season
It's a young one, but North Oldham and South Oldham. We've got a nice rivalry going. Granted, South has beaten us pretty handily, but we get closer and gets more fun every year. -
Why does South Oldham shake their coaches hand first?
NOHS_wrestling replied to Olympic_wish's topic in 2008 Season
Being the Coach of North Oldham, South isn't evil. They are our rival, and it's a solid, fun rivalry. We enjoy it up at North, and will give South Oldham alot of credit for making us a better team. -
