KentuckyWrestling.com HS Rankings - 2007/2008 Pre-season July 8

i hope youre kidding. wempe, ohlman, and engle all above voth and zeppa? please. -
well i would say beating rupp by 14, and florence by 10 or 11 is pretty impressive. pinning in the state finals is pretty impressive. his only losses were to a state placer in ohio this year. and yes, starks is good on his feet, but where do you think reid's bread-n-butter is at? its on his feet, definitely the quickest upperweight this year, without a doubt.

antonio zeppa is going to senior nationals now. hes been accepted as a wildcard.

favorite wrestler to watch from a different team at state

i thought the 145 from fort campbell was really fun to watch. his double legs and blast doubles were SWEET. and dc evans was really fun to watch also. -
branch, proctor, and martorana will all place next year
-
reid would beat both, but beat starks by more although starks would beat wolsiefer. weight becomes a big issue.
-
Two-thumbs up. Either this or the competition at Jeff Jordan was the best.

I think Jordan Lewis took 8th his first year then went on to win it his next year as a sophomore. -
Oh, haha, I thought he got nailed in the family jewels. Maybe it was his neck though, I dunno.

Good lord he is so quick and strong. I like that little duck-under he does. -
Biggest dissapointments of the state tournament
littleschool130 replied to Skwrestling119's topic in 2008 Season
Yeah, judging by the way he was dominating Mark Jones, I think we would have had a different state champion. But there is still next year and the year after for him. -
Yeah, but its wrestling all the same kids you wrestle during the season. The Union tournament was the best one I went to because I wrestled kids I never wrestled before and never will again. Plus, you see different styles of wrestling from other states and it'll help prepare you for during the season.

Harrison Courtney without a doubt. Then the kid Sullivan wrestled in the finals had some really good leg-riding also. Derek Branch and Elliot Martin both have good leg riding also.
-
My favorite takedown of the tournament (didn't even get taken down) was when Evans and Sullivan had that really, really long scramble and they ended up going out of bounds on the side of the mat closest to Ryle, Dunbar, North Oldham and Hardin fans. That and the badass lateral drop that Nickel pulled on Chaney. Lightning quick.
-
Now that's pushing it. Wolsiefer would win and so would Mason. And I'm pretty sure Ervin would win also if they were to wrestle.
-
Last year's Gable Tournament at Union had some pretty amazing competition from Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee, and I think two other states, plus the boys from around Kentucky. I suggest to all for some great out-of-state competition, and a well-ran tournament, head down to Union. Only a three hour drive from Louisville.

what wrestlers won't be at state because of certain twists and turns? i know in region 5, kevin stewart is out. also we know about cliff cornett, luna not being varsity, and what about butler? was he injured before or during the medaling rounds? will he be wrestling at state?
-
The only good kids he has to beat is Eck/Seeders, whoever makes it out. And I guess Rojas, he is a tough wrestler also, but he should pull it out.
-
Yes, more stacked for sure. Shotwell, Skinner, Kraft, Eck, Speck, Seeders, Branch and Grimm. Those eight are all VERY good.

I respect Kevin for how well he handled himself after his loss. I don't think he could have handled it any better. A 4x State Qualifier (i think) and #3 or #4 in the state as a senior, and he accepted his loss like a great wrestler would. He didn't explode, no tantrums, and shook the other coaches hand. I know if I would have went out that day, it wouldn't have been pretty, so I give much props and respect to Stewart. Great sportsmanship on his behalf, good luck to him in the future.

Which team will have the most individual state champs?
littleschool130 replied to wrestlingforyears's topic in 2007 Season
i think woodford might only have 1 state champion this year, but probably 2 with byrd and starks. -
So which do you think it is?

There are 17 folkstyle camps over the summer, and I got a letter in the mail earlier in the week saying there were starting a freestyle camp in the spring. This camp attracts the top notch competition in the nation, and from all around. We had kids from Texas, California, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, West Virginia, Virginia, Illinois, Ohio, South Carolina, Indiana, and a few others (I think Montana? Maybe Idaho?) There were only 3 kids from KY including me at the week I went to, and they were Brian Peace and Mason Reid. The best from each state go to this. You can be denied entry to the camp if Coach Jordan doesn't think you are qualified enough. There is, however, I think 2 earlier weeks that are for the less experienced, but still average. All in all, best competition in the nation goes here, with the best kids from around the nation, great counselors, and even most of the St. Paris Graham wrestling team, which is generally top 3 in the nation every year. I highly suggest it, teaches you the best takedowns you can learn, makes you master them, and it shows you that you can accomplish more than you ever believed physically.
