    Haves and Have Nots

Somebody tell me why they think a kid from a small school needs to wrestle against only "small school wrestlers" for a state championship. The last time I checked, there was a requirement that they all weigh the same. And don't give me the excuse that small teams make it impossible to train and compete against the bigger schools. Sure, it is more difficult - but good wrestlers enjoy the challenge. The only reason I can think of is to make it easier for some of the small schools. Wrestling isn't supposed to be easy. We need to increase the level of competition instead of watering it down. And this is coming from a very small school.

Or maybe we can have 40 divisions and take everyone............like YMCA soccer - nobody loses.

    Haves and Have Nots

Wrestling is different than football. I agree the divisions in football are necessary for obvious reasons. However, I maintain that an individual on a 10 man team can compete with an individual on an 80 man team in wrestling. Sure, it is more difficult and the lack of training partners is a disadvantage, but such is life. Myself, I enjoy being the underdog.

Coming from the smallest wrestling school in the state (300 kids k-12), I can tell you that we don't have a problem with the system as it is. Sure, we aren't able to compete in a dual tournament since we don't field a full 14 man roster, but our wrestlers want to compete against the best individually. If we went to a small school division our better wrestlers wouldn't have the opportunity to wrestle for the "true" state championship individually. The small school division would always have an asterisk beside it. On the other hand, if there was a tournament like basketball's "All - A Classic" during the season, I'm sure we would participate. The problem is, there aren't many "A" schools who have wrestling.

    2010 State Brackets

If that's the case, then the 2, 4, 5, 7 and 10 would be on the other side. Seems fairly balanced to me.

Ok, its that time of year again..

I don't mind the 32 man brackets. It beats the old days when we only had regionals and the top two from each region went to state. It wasn't unusual for the second or third best wrestler in the state to miss the state tournament. The Frankfort venue is a big improvement over a high school gym. With the format we have now, the best wrestlers usually find a way to end up on top in the end. My only gripe is not seeding the top four wrestlers.

    103 and 110

Good point, but another explanation could be that high school 103 is weak this year, outside the top few kids.

    Christian Co. Tournament

Willen won 6-2. Henderson was frustrated, threw his headgear, refused to shake Willen's hand, and was appropriately dinged one team point for poor sportsmanship. No place for that in this sport.
