there was a time when middle schoolers were banned in the state from wrestling. back in the mid-90s was when it started. Right after Joe Carr Jr. won the state title as an 8th grader. It was changed back to allow Middle Schoolers to wrestle in the early 2000s to help keep wrestling in KY from dying out, which at the time it was. By doing this (banning middle schoolers from wrestling), alot (and i mean alot) of teams in the state would begin to deteriorate. IDK what this will do to JCPS Wrestling teams, but i have a feeling it will only harm how competitive some of them are beginning to be.

LaRue is/was the smallest school in 4A when we went to the new classification in football. It was something like 1 or 2 male students that kept them from being 3A. Plus LaRue is in the small school division at State Tournament.

my thoughts (take them for what they're worth): yes, i enjoy watching the celebrations after a finals victory. HOWEVER, there are ppl who take it too far. Spiking your headgear after beating a 7th grader (no matter how awesome he is), looking up at the fans of the wrestler you just beat as you draw their symbol on your chest and slice at your throat (not this year, but still one i remember from 2001), brushing off your shoulders/hips, or running to your coach and jumping into their arms/running off the mat before shaking your opponents hand are some that take it too far just to name a few. Moral: by all means celebrate, you've earned it, but DON'T TAKE IT TOO FAR.

maybe its just me, but i love it being in frankfort. i've been attending the State Tournament since 1999, and i can't imagine it being anywhere else. think about the atmosphere during saturday, the pre-finals hoopla party, and how awesome the arena is during finals. The Civic Center may have it's draw-backs, but when it comes to finals, and the atmosphere period, its the best arena around.

they used to determine it by taking all the schools in order if enrollment, and drawing a line down the middle for an equal split.

I know at LaRue, if you are a member of the team PERIOD, it is a field trip. and i'm not sure if they still do this at LaRue (i always had it marked as field trip) but when i was in elementary school, and student who brought back a ticket from state got an excused absence.

alright, i wasn't gonna say anything here, but i think something needs to be pointed out: WE AREN'T THERE TO SEE WHO IS 2-8!!! We go to Frankfort to crown 14 STATE CHAMPIONS!!! Forget seeding, we aren't there to see who is the 2nd best, we're there to see who is the BEST. End of discussion. and i'm sure ranger is working tirelessly to finish up his pre-state buildup!! :-D

Beto's coach needs to tell the folks at Anderson Co, as these are the same brackets they will be using saturday.

NOPE!! Regions (and State next week) are get there or don't wrestle. I've heard a true story that back in the 90s, Ft. Campbell hosted Regions (back when there was districts then regions) and 2 days before the tournament, they were hit with an ice storm. The KHSAA said "you wrestle it. whoever gets there gets there." The story goes that several times throughout the day the power went off, but they waited forthe power to come back on and continued wrestling. Regions and State are get there, or don't wrestle.

With all the anger over Middle School State being canceled and all the other feelings of anger with State Duals being canceled last week, i'd like to post about a very bright spot for Kentucky Wrestling. On Wednesday, LaRue County coach Gary Canter earned dual win number 400 for his career. This makes him one of the top 100 coaches for victories in the Nation. Congrats to Coach Canter on reaching this HUGE milestone!!!

for those who have been posting the weather for the elizabethtown area: the call to cancel the event was made when the NOAA (which is the forcast most schools in this area. i live in the etown area when i'm not in BG for school) weather ppl were calling for ice in addition to 1-3 inches of snow. i know its changed since then, as i've been watching the weather as well. but with that said, the decision to cancel was made when ice WAS in the forcast for the area.

alright folks, to clear this up: the Hardin County BOE (Board of Ed) Canceled the tournament. They are calling for 2 inches of snow tonight in addition to ICE in this area. Then, we are suppossedly getting an additional inch of snow tomorrow. it is the ICE that caused the cancelation. i'm upset as well, as i drove in from bowling green to officiate the tournament, and this was paying for my gas to and from frankfort in 2 weeks, where i will once again be assisting with the announcing by providing the stats and top match-ups. if you want to be mad, be mad at the HCBOE, not Central Hardin, who does a better job than any venue i've ever been to for a tournament, including the KHSAA State Tournament at the Civic Center in Frankfort.

that's what i heard, x-force. right now i'm sure it will depend on Central's ability to use their gym. last weekend the super from the HArdin County School district canceled EVERY event for HArdin County. Central's varsity was suppossed to go to State Duals (we won't go into that can of worms...) but was told before the whole disaster that they wouldnt' be allowed. so right now, if i were anyone involved with MS State this weekend, i'd keep your fingers crossed that she lets the tournament go on as they have started calling for that snow and ice again!!! if it were me, i'd say "get there if you can." that's how the KHSAA does regions and state!!!

i personally understand the safety thing, but for cryin outloud, the MIDDLE SCHOOL STATE DUALS AND JV STATE TOURNAMENT ARE STILL BEING HELD!!!!! there is no snow on the ground, the storm system has been over top of the state for 3 hours now, and all the "bad things" that will cause roads to be bad (ice, sleet, etc...) are south. how has the right decision been made, when there hasn't been anything happen yet to cause concern??? I personally think its pretty pathetic for an event like this to be canceled because of a THREAT of bad weather, but that's just the opinion of someone who has lived here all their life and seen events go on during weather much worse than what is suppossed to happen tonight.

at 117 don't count out Gahafer from Union or Perez from LaRue. Fahy is good, but both those guys are VERY VERY capable of pulling it out when it counts.

Well, i can honestly say i wish i was a fly on the wall in the coach's meeting this year!!! Johnson and LaRue are undefeated in the State of KY (it don't matter how close you were with out of state teams) which means they DESERVE AND SHOULD BE the top 2 seeds. Here's the issue: who is the #1 and who is the #2 as neither has faced any common teams this year in DUALS. The next problem comes when you try to seed the next 3 or 4 teams, who have kind of a A beat B who beat C who beat A thing going on. I have a good feeling some blood will be flowing and tensions will be high saturday in that meeting!!! :-D With that said, may he best team win!!!

i just talked with his coaches. after some "questionable" calls (you know how coaches are. could have been, i honestly dont' know as i wasn't there) they decided to DEFAULT the match so he would not have to sit out next week.

no duals tonight. :-( trying to figure out about tomorrow...

if that's how you look at it. EVERYONE got a 2 pound growth allowence at X-mas (103 became 105, etc...), so you add one pound to that growth. (105 becomes 106, etc...)

LaRue finishes day 4-1 with wins over Beech TN, Team X, Soddy Daisy TN (ranked #1 in private schools: 35-24) and gibbs TN. Lost to Gilmer GA (40-7. #2 in Georgia AAA). Will wrestle Ravenwood (TN), Pigeon Forge (TN), and Heritage (TN) in silver pool (5th-8th) tomorrow.

sorry for the delay. got home to no internet. LaRue finished day 2 undefeated in the silver pool, beating Heritage (TN), Ravenwood (TN) 29-26, and Pigeon Forge (TN). This was good enough for the Hawks to bring home a 5th place plaque for the 2nd year in a row. of teh 7 wrestlers they took that were undefeated, only 215 Drew Newberry returns to Kentucky undefeated. GREAT showing by the boys in blue!!!!!

what's with the new look??? i've always liked the old addage "if it ain't broke, don' t fix it." so was there something wrong with the old??

that's what i'm saying: If they want to wrestle everyone THEY CAN'T DO IT THAT WAY! There are 9 teams which means everyone needs 8 duals. You can only wrestle 5 in a day. Even if they do 3 duals friday, atleast one team will need 6 duals on saturday.

just wondering, but how in the world will they work this round of duals out, as there are now 9 teams in region 2?? I know the plan was 3 duals friday night 5 saturday, but no matter how you work it, SOMEONE will be forced to wrestle 6 duals saturday. i know central and larue have already wrestled his year, as well as john and larue. will one or both duals count for this round?? :| :|
