yes to the first part. but it will remain 3 days. the current schedule we had this year is what will remain in effect. it has never been even brought up to change it back to two days. KHSAA has to bring in that money baby!! :]

looking throught he pictures i keep seeing this amish looking guy at the main table. WHO IS THAT?! i've seen him officiating through the State during the regular season, and now he's working at the main table at state. Looks like he's about 22, glasses and has an amish looking beard.
-
no totally true. yes it was a mistake, but the announcer did EXACTLY what he was told to do. how do i know? i was with him at the main table and he asked me what happened. somewhere along the line of people, the message got tangled or something. But the announcer did what he was told to do.

funny dagger. funny.

i think it's hilarious that the folks for this are the schools who either get their butt handed to them by the smaller schools (aka LaRue and Union). I know for a fact LaRue and Union are against this. The ones who want the split are the larger schools for the most part. Keep it as is. right now KY doesnt' have the numbers to split. In a few years when more schools have started programs, then we can entertain this idea. And for those who say more schools would start programs if we split, we had 6 schools attempt to start programs this year in the state of KY. call me crazy, but sounds to me like schools ARE starting wrestling without us splitting.

Pridewrestler, it's not a done deal. I've talked with members from the KHSAA, and they are looking into 2 possibilities for next year: Horse Park in Lexington, and i think they said one of the arenas in NKU (can't remember the name). 2 members of the Coach's Association are going with them to look at the logistics. Also, the tournament will remain 3 days. that has never been up for discussion.

since i know for a fact 'me' is wrestling tomorrow at the Region 2 tournament i'm helping run, i'm assuming this is refering to State. 8-)

Old man winter is suppossed to cooperate this year, and i do know that State Duals will go off unless the world ends in a volcanic eruption. So lets get some discussion going: Who wins?? Who plays spoiler? I think Union, LaRue, and Trinity are favorites with Ryle, Johnson Central, and quite possibly Oldham playing spoiler. thoughts??

I wasn't going to comment, but it needs to be pointed out: I understand teh stalling thing TOTALY. BUT (and i do mean a very big BUT), the officials at state (from what i saw) didn't make any calls they wouldn't have made during the season. Or, if you need it simpler, they were consistant to how they called things during teh season. Would you all rather have it like it is normally, or even at the HS level where the ref's go hog wild with stalling at state?? or would you rather have consistancy?? :-D

I've always heard (and it actually did happen one year i'm told) that Regions go off on saturday no matter what. Most teams find a way to get there. Smartest idea in the world?? nope. But in all honesty, not many regions nowadays can be wrestled during teh week (too many teams and wrestlers), and very few coaches want to wrestle on a sunday. My guess (and it's not worth much, so take it or leave it) is that unless the state shuts down the highways, regions will be wrestled saturday no matter what.

back in 2004 or 2005. I think the year after South Oldham had only 1 team score in the double digits on them in an in-state dual (pretty sure it was LaRue who lost in the pool matches). They've seeded top 4 or 5 ever since. and yes, Ryle can't be seeded, but they also CAN'T be in the same pool/side of the bracket with Campbell. Which means they will probably have to go through LaRue, Johnson Central, Union or Trinity to even place top 4. Whoever draws Ryle is going to have a KILLER pool saturday!

i think splitting State Duals is the dumbest idea i've ever heard. For one, we don't have the numbers to split. Second, KY is the only State I know of that can claim they crown a TRUE TEAM STATE CHAMPION with our State Duals. I've been around KY wrestling for 13 years now, the past 2 as an official. I've found the teams that want to have the split are the teams that have never really been in the running for the title. I guarantee (and i can because i know the majority of the coaches) Union, LaRue, and Wayne (all 3 of whom have been in the State Duals Finals and have been in contention multiple times) do not want it split. all 3 are small schools in the state. Keep state duals as is. If you truly want a State Dual title as a smaller school, OUT WORK THE COMPETITION like those 3 do.

how is boyle's high school attending this event? their regional duals are this weekend in etown.

interesting to note though that the Fayette County schools were able to host 2 basketball tournaments today AND that Woodford's girls basketball team was able to travel today... :-o

at the risk of opening a large can of worms, i encourage ALL fans, coaches, and wrestlers to read this article. Ben makes a very good argument. http://matref0.tripod.com/Articles/blamerefs.pdf

Just heard from some fans in Oldham. LaRue defeats Central Hardin in semi-final 1. Simon Kenton defeats Meade in semi-final 2. LaRue vs. Simon Kenton for the title. Notable matches amond Region II fans: Eli Meredith (LaRue) defeats Cody Resser (CH) by 1. Caleb Canter (LaRue) loses to Kyle Terry (CH) by 1 in what was termed a snooze fest where neither one really did anything. Kyle Edlin (LaRue) loses to Zack Heck (CH) in SUDDEN VICTORY. Match literally decided on a coin flip.

no because after this year it is suppossedly moving to the Horse Park in Lexington. 8 mats going down.
-
2001. atleast i'm pretty sure. 2001 was the last year the KHSAA had districts and regions, and LaRue was in Union's region until 2001. LaRue had won their region from 1999-2007 but in 2008 John Hardin broke that streak. As much as it pains me to say it, i think Woodford might have the longest Regional Title streak (PLD broke that in 2007) and LaRue's may come in 2nd.
-
No idea where kids will be falling. I'll got out on a limb and say LaRue is tops again this year team wise. :-D Central and North battling for 2nd and 3rd.
-
Barren is in Region 2. Which means Region 2 stretches from Boyle County to Barren County. :-o although the alternative isn't much better: Region 1 from the Missouri State (not sure which school is closest there. Maybe Trigg) to Barren County. Region 2 is the better fit, which doesn't say much!

Middle Schoolers banned from varsity for Jefferson Co Public Schools?
dscicle replied to Nathaniel Bryan's topic in 2011 Season
here's a question that the coaches in my area have thrown awhile eville: how many high school kids do you know who can LEGALLY get down to 103 in this day and age?? how about 112?? -
North Bullitt is listed with a coach this year as well. Lots of new teams!! this is good!!

yes money is a big issue. Now, i had the pleasure of attending 5 or 6 of the past 8 NCAA D1 Tournaments. The finals were exciting yes, but the BEST WRESTLING I saw while I was at each one was the quarter finals and semi finals rounds. I honestly believe the best wrestling in our state tournament is both those rounds as well. Think about this: the winners in the quarter finals are GUARANTEED a top 6 medal. The semi finals winners are GUARANTEED a top 2 medal. You can

the state tournament will never be seeded for 1 reason: 1) we aren't there to see who finishes 2-8. We are there to crown 14 individual CHAMPIONS. yes there are kids who prolly would never medal if we seeded the tournament, but honestly, if you want to blame you getting beat before the medal rounds on your draw alone, you have other issues imho.

and someone needs to tell Mr. Frakes his information is incorrect. He states wrestling is one of the sports that does not allow middle schoolers to compete at the high school level, obviously they are or Brock Ervin wouldn't be a State Champ. :-D
