KY Best coaches past and present; middle and high school
ARealWrestlingFanatic replied to hotmamma's topic in 2009 Season
Recently retired Coach Eddie Rudolph from Trinity is one of the best coaches I have been involved with. His approach went beyond just making them good wrestlers on the mat. He made them good men overall in life. -
I would vote for Ranger to chair the process...let's try it for one year and if it doesn't work, it can't be any worse than it is today.

I think it would be fantastic if the state brackets were not determined based on random placement of what region you are from and how you finished in the region. It should be based on real rankings which assess the skills skills and ability of the wrestler. Then we would really see some real State title matches in the final match under the lights instead of in the quarter or semifinals. I realize the challenges with this type of approach and have watched the banter over the years so I know it is unrealistic to assume it will ever happen. But it doesn't hurt to dream.

Who was 306-1? Where do we find such records published or does this just come from the minds of our prominent historians of Kentucky Wrestling? I concur that Fahy has no chance as he'll wrestle at most 60-70 matches per year in high school competition.

The Hoops venue is a really bad idea. I was there the entire day for Region 4. There was very little seating for Region 4 and it was really hard to see. I got the distinct impression that the hoops people didn't want us there as much as we didn't want to be there, so I just don't get the connection. Perhaps the AD for Jeff Co has an ownership interest in the private venue. In addition, my son was not feeling well. Tried to bring in some crackers to sooth his stomach (rather than buy the pizza or nachos they sold at the concession stand). They would not let me in with the crackers. Then went out, put the crackers under my jacket and returned. They chased me down and I actually thought they were going to arrest me. They then said they thought I had a gun or something. Hoops is a basketball venue...hence the name.

Any tournament I have seen in Indiana starts on time...you can set your watch to it. Every tournament except the state tournament, starts late and is often unorganized. Perhaps Ky should outsource to some Indiana schools to run their tournaments. It can be highly frustrating. Having said that, it is great that there are multiple tournaments every weekend as I have seen Kentucky wrestling continue to improve significantly so better to have a late start than no start at all.

who was the most outstanding wrestler?

Courtney's performance and demeanor before, during and after each match was more worthy of MOW than m.ervin. -

Based on your suggestion, if region 4 and region 6 were to advance to a sectional, the 140 weight class would end up with 5 of the top 6 ranked wrestlers, which means that one goes home without a chance at state. No matter how you cut it, a random draw will result in random selections of talent. At the end of the day, I think coaches can be mature enough to work through a ranking session and more fairly distribute the talent. I realize we are interested in a more competitive title match, but also it is about the kids getting a chance to reach the title match without having to wrestle a title match in a preliminary. This results in a subpar wrestler reaching the final because of the luck of the draw. Doesn't seem fair or reasonable in my view. Do other states have this same problem?

Coty Lewis (rank 29) will lose his first round match to Deinlein (rank 11). Coty won his region but he is matched against the 4th place finisher from a strong region 6 who produced 4 wrestlers in the top 15: 3 Scott Justin Miley 12 10 Con TJ Bates 10 11 Cam Co Talon Deinlein 12 15 Ryle Matt Aylor 11

Which team will win state this year?
ARealWrestlingFanatic replied to FCcaptain07's topic in 2008 Season
This is not a fair comparison as Union also was missing many of its top wrestlers due to illness at last years state duals. -
Ditto that sentiment. I have been involved in the wrestling world for only the past 4 years and Union is always a dominant force to wrecken with. Yoda, off base, you are.

regional rankings before regionals?
ARealWrestlingFanatic replied to meadecowrestler's topic in 2008 Season
The rankings for the state come out every week (last on Wednesday) thanks to Ranger123. I assume you know who is in your region so that should give you everything you need. Here is the link in case you have never seen them before: http://www.kentuckywrestling.com/smf/index.php?board=34.0 -
Fargo Nationals and other major stages for wrestling
ARealWrestlingFanatic replied to Danger's topic in 2008 Season
Danger, rather than so many tournaments in the summer, have you considered an intensive camp? One that I would highly recommend, but it not for the faint of heart, is the J Rob camp at the University of Minnesota (http://www.jrobinsonwrestlingcamps.com/wrestling/). Check it out. It's not cheap but it sure helps you get to the next level. -

Agreed. If he gets you in the first 2 minutes, you are done. He has moves many wrestlers haven't even heard of. If you can get him to the 3rd period, he is done. -

I'm sure he didn't do it on purpose but it almost seems worse that dropping totally out of the rankings. I am not counting Coty out yet but based on last Saturday, losing 3 out of 5 matches, he is not ready yet.
