    State tourney stats

Year before, 5 in the finals and 4 to win, with the lone runner up winning the next year.

Best take down in the finals

Now the splits, that was nasty haha

    Injury time

I think I know of one team you are talking about. Pretty obvious when it happened match in and match out. Get in shape!

    State venue

I just heard what I put on here this weekend at the state tournament. Knew they were wanting to change the venue and forgot about them doing it until someone mentioned it again this weekend. He is right about NKU, but pretty sure the horse park is the destination they will most likely switch to.

    Ryle- State tournament

I agree with wrestlewatcher. The ryle coaches are top notch, and if I had to choose any other school to go to in the state to wrestle, I'd have went there.

    other awards

Robert Ervin coach of the year. Caleb most pins least time or whatever. If I'm not mistaken, Robert was the MOW when he was in school and his son Caleb won it this year. Has that happened before in ky?

If we are going that route, hands down thomas buckman ranked 8th.

    small school- big school

I don't want them to split it up, neither do I think they should. They give out small school state titles anyways with Union winning it and Larue taking second. Union is only 2a and with this being an individual sport, it helps that there is only 14 weight classes for the smaller programs. Filling teams are hard to do for smaller schools but it can be done. Individual success comes with a good youth program and getting kids involved early. Small schools have won the 3 out of the last 5 overall state championships so competing with the big dogs is possible, and attainable. I haven't looked at the total numbers but Union has had 14 state champs in that 5 year span. Back in 2003, they weren't even the best team in the region but when they started the youth programs their success rose exponentially. If smaller schools are able to get the backing of their community and start a youth program, it will help them tremendously.

    most unexpected placers?

Buckman has a only one acl, one was torn december 10th at the Harrison 10-way tournament, therefore he only had 24 matches total on the year. (22-2, with one loss coming to that injury default and the other out of state.) No one had really heard of him and his drop from 215 to 189 was key to Unions state title run. You could see that big knee brace he had on.

    State venue

Don't know specifics but apparently wrestling was a big reason along with the biggest reason being the equestrian games that the new building at the horse park was built. It was extremely close to moving to owensboro (the center being the venue, and most people staying at this one big hotel until that main hotel closed) and switching back and forth with frankfort before this new building was built.

    Congrats Union County!!

Way to pull it out guys. This was only the second tournament they had won all season (with the first coming last week at regionals.) They had never had a full team together even once all season so when everyone else saw Union, they always looked down. Congrats to Trinity, Ryle, St. X and every other team that had kids make state. Congrats to all the state champions and finalists. It was a great tournament and the title is coming back home to small town morganfield to a school of 700. Go Braves!

    Ranger's state tournament report

Totally wrong there haha. If Bisenius or Ahern lose to Woodford in the second round then they would meet Jones in the money round. But the 1st round loser would be switch to the opposite side of the consolation bracket as Jones assuming Jones gets beat by Terry :-D Interesting to say the least

The Ervin's are at it again!

http://www.ucadvocate.com/articles/stories/public/201102/16/04Wz_local_news.html Mallory and Gary Ervin return for "unfinished business" as they were eliminated in the last Amazing Race.
