  1. In Indiana where I reside, middle school wrestling is not under a singular governing body.  Weight classes can be different from one part of the state to the other.  Northwest Indiana has their middle school season during the high school year while the rest of Indiana has the middle school season begin in January a couple of weeks prior to the start of our high school sectionals.  Indiana has a state middle school tournament that is operated by the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association.  In other word, no uniformity for middle school wrestling.  I like to see some uniformity come to middle school wrestling in Indiana.  Kentucky is making the effort toward that direction.  I hope you folks in Kentucky will succeed in bringing uniformity to middle school wrestling in the Bluegrass state & be uniformity that all can live with.

  2. I am in agreement of the importance of JV wrestlers. They help the varsity wrestlers out with scrimmage time in practice & can fill in when necessary. Some of the JV wrestlers turned into next season's varsity wrestlers. If some schools are blessed to have a full JV team, sometimes they wrestle in a varsity meet (i.e. Trinity's JV wrestled at a varsity 6-way at Providence HS in Clarksville, IN back on Jan. 7th.) and gain some varsity experience.

So to all JV wrestlers out there, you are important to your team. Whether you get a shot at varsity or not, the coaches are glad to have you. Without you guys, it can be tougher for the varsity guys to succeed on the mat. You're there through thick and thin and cheer on the varsity guys when they compete. The varsity guys do appreciate your support.

  4. Iceman,

I will not dispute the fact that refs make mistakes. That will happen. This is, also, a fact. There a bunch of refs who do an excellent job. There will always be a need for refs. I was told once by a veteran ref in Indiana, who has done the Indiana HS State Finals, that the average amount of years for a ref is five years. I am aware of the great need for refs in Kentucky. If you are interested and serious about officiating, APPLY for your ref's license with the KHSAA. That goes for anyone who is interested and serious about officiating. APPLY. We need you. Why I'm saying this. I've been officiating in Indiana since 2000 & just started officiating in Kentucky this year. I realize what refs go through & the need for more refs. I hope that you apply. When you are licensed, I hope to see you on the mat. When starting out, take middle school, freshman, & JV matches first to get mat time & develop your ref skills. By the time you start doing varsity meets, you'll be ready for those meets. Remember most of all, no matter what level you ref at, always be willing to learn. No one will ever know it all. Don't get discourage & keep going.

  5. Don't be discourage by not having Kentucky wrestlers ranked nationally. I know the Kentucky wrestlers are working hard & they will get the respect nationally. Keep up the hard work & the Kentucky wrestlers will get there. Have faith. It will happen.

  6. I don't like having wrestling split into big school-little school classifications. Whether it is Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, or wherever, there are a number of "small" schools that can wrestle some the "big" schools out of the gym. I like to see smaller schools have their shot against bigger schools. Sometimes, the bigger school is the powerhouse. Sometimes, the smaller school is the powerhouse. Sometimes, both the small & big schools are powerhouses & put on one whale of a meet the fans would enjoy watching.

  7. I think it is good that Kentucky schools wrestle schools from other states. It give Kentucky schools a chance to wrestle different wrestlers from other states. It will, also, improve the quality of wrestling in Kentucky. I'm from Indiana & I think Kentucky can become a good wrestling state. Kentucky is doing it right now. I have seen Kentucky wrestling clubs come up & compete in Indiana folkstyle tournaments, i.e. Tell City. I encourage Kentucky to keep wrestling in as many out of state meets as possible & send as many young wrestlers to the wrestling camps as possible. Keep up the good work. You guys can do it.
