  1. There will be 4 mats this year.

This will not be on track wrestling but we will post it on our team website with links to brackets and team scores as the tourney goes on. www.mtswrestling.com

There are so many alternates every year that the tournament usually gets randomly drawn. The draw table never ends up being the actual match ups. Just a way for me to keep up with entries really.

As of right now we have 11 full brackets. 106 has 15 wrestlers, 120 has 13 wrestlers, and 220 has 15 wrestlers.

  2. Wrestlers entered into the tournament so far 2017 KY JV State Entries

We will be having the JV state tournament at Moore on Saturday Feb. 4th. This is the Saturday after State Duals. This is something positive to keep your younger back-up wrestlers motivated throughout the year because they too will have state title to shoot for. Please provide them this opportunity.

A JV Regional must be held before Feb. 4th. Top two placers from each region will advance to make it a 16 man bracket. Make sure to wrestle to all places because we always end up using lots of alternates so your 3rd and 4th place finishers may be called up.

We have had a few regions not participate because of logistical reasons. If you are a coach in a region who chooses not to hold a JV regional but you would still like to have your JV wrestlers participate then let me know.

    The qualifications are:

    - Grades 9-12
    - wrestler can not enter if he has wrestled in the KHSAA State tournament in any of his previous years.
    - Wrestler places 1st or 2nd in JV Region to advance to JV State.
    - Teams may enter no more then 2 wrestlers per weight class. If both wrestlers make it to state, only one will be a scorer.

With that said I would like to know who will be holding qualifiers/regionals. Qualifiers or regionals can be round robin or traditional tournament format. If you are doing them on a week night I advise short periods all the way through.

REGION 4. Please contact me if you would like to host.

  3. Looking to trade a full size resilite mat for a full size dollamur like mat. The resilite is in good condition and is great for more permanent use (mat rooms). We already have a matted room so we want to trade and get another mat for tournaments. The mat has 9 practice circles on the opposite side. It is navy blue with white circles. Let me know if you are interested.

  4. I waited before I made any orders on new uniforms. I assumed that we would do the right thing and vote in the option for fight shorts and the compression shirt. I even advertised to middle school kids that they wouldn't have to wear the singlet and received much much better interest. Now is this final for this wrestling season? Can any sort of emergency vote be put in place on this to see if we can get it changed for this year? It almost seems like lots of us don't want to increase participation and grow the sport. It must be nice to have tons of kids on your team. Unfortunately all of us do not and this would help get numbers up.

  5. Moore Traditional School in Louisville Kentucky is looking for a head middle school coach for the 2016-2017 school year. We are part of Jefferson county public schools which is one of the highest paying school districts in the U.S.
See our teacher salary schedule here:
    https://www.jefferson.kyschools.us/sites/default/files/forms/Salary_Schedule_JobFamilyIII.pdf

There will be a variety of teaching positions open except for physical education. Our school is 6th-12th grade. We have elementary, middle, and high school wrestling programs with a solid booster club, plans for a large wrestling facility to be built in the next few years as well as a brand new principal who is a former wrestling coach!

Check out plans for future building here:

    http://mtswrestling.weebly.com/facilities.html

If you are interested then please send a resume asap as our principal will be reviewing them and then making hires the first of July.

    Send resume to mike.thomas@jefferson.kyschools.us
    Check us out at www.mtswrestling.com

  6. I don't agree and we will most likely find out soon enough. If it doesn't increase participation numbers then I will gladly eat my words.

i had no problems with a singlet when I was in high school. Didn't really think much about it either way. Unfortunately not everyone is like you or me and this is a deterrent to the sport for some. Especially those heavier wrestlers.

We have to get kids to try the sport to see if they like it. Some of them will not even try because of the singlet. As a coach I want more kids to come out and try wrestling!! The fans seem to have a different opinion on this. It seems the coaches are mostly all for it. They want more participation.

  9. Recently the head coaches received a survey while on trackwrestling asking us if we would favor a uniform change. We were asked if we would rather have fight shorts and a compression shirt. I'm thinking this might pass at the April nfhs meeting. What are everyone's thoughts on a uniform change?

  10. I started the JV State tournament back in 2008 to give young wrestlers something to shoot for as well at the end of the year. I thought this would help retain more young guys. This year was our best year yet as far as attendance with 32 teams represented. We started at 10:10 with a scheduled start time of 10. We did finish a bit late but we did not have one single break besides a small amount of time to honor two of our seniors before the finals. Wrestling rolled through from start to finish.

Thanks for your praise and advice. I agree we can do better with the awards presentation. Seeding however will probably never happen. I was swapping kids in and out all week long and the night before. I asked the coaches what they wanted to do before we started and they all said random draw. We had some teams travel from pretty far away and wanted to get started asap to get them back on the road.

    Any other suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for coming and I'll see everyone at state!

  11. Just wanted to update you all on the JV State Tournament. It will take place this Saturday @ Moore in Louisville. Wrestlers will get a pound as region 4 will be hosting their JV regional Friday night.

The link below lets you know who is in the tournament so far. The blank spots are results we are waiting on. Some alternates have been rolled in but we have to wait for the rest. Alternates are in green. Coaches, if your team or wrestlers from your team will not be participating then please let me know asap.
